...water

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades. It's all relative!

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will find a thread within the Further Ed board.

Possibly a move to Parent of Adult Children Board in future? Post Results?

Another new thread! This moves fast GrinGrin

Wheresthebeach · 16/06/2022 12:53

Thank you for the thread. Next week is going to be loooong…

Oblomov22 · 16/06/2022 12:57

Thank you kindly Orange.

coffeeandbiscuittime · 16/06/2022 12:58

Thanks for the threads @OrangeCinnamonCroissant , I have followed since the beginning.
DD did AQA physics this morning- said it was the worst yet. She needs an A in it - nothing to be done now - she does not analyse the paper , so it's over until results day.
On a positive news she is doing the teach to swim course in Aug so hopefully with that , her life guarding and potentially a job as a carer in a supported living home she will gain lots of experience.
I am hoping to get her on as an observer on an advanced communication course ( for health care professionals) and some work exp at our local GP/ pharmacy.
So it's going to be a busy year.
5 down 4 more to go for A levels and only 2 now for GCSE's after today.

Isthisjustnormal · 16/06/2022 13:03

ds not back from psychology yet (extra time). Drumming my fingers ;-)

Volterra · 16/06/2022 13:05

Thank you Orange.

WJEC was ‘middling’ according to DS.

ExtremelyDedicated · 16/06/2022 13:17

Thanks @OrangeCinnamonCroissant .

DD had her second to last GCSE this morning, 5 in 4 days this week has been hard going, she looks shattered. Just one to go on Monday now.

DS phoned last night (we too are enjoying the lack of morning stress from boarding - when he was a day student he had a taxi paid for by his EHCP but they weren't always reliable and it is a relief to know he is safely there, we would have driven him on exam days but it is quite a long way and plenty of potential for delays). He has had no exams this week, just one to go next Weds but he says he has been working really hard after relaxing a bit after the last paper last week. Nearly there.

ProggyMat · 16/06/2022 13:24

Thanks for the new thread @OrangeCinnamonCroissant

Well done to all that sat papers this morning! ⭐️
DD reports that the Greek literature paper was an absolute belta! She’s a very happy bunny.
8/10 completed with the final two next week.

Fiddlersgreen · 16/06/2022 13:31

DS is finishing today. Psychology and English Language.
He starts a job tomorrow to fund all the expensive things he wants to do this summer!

DS2 has 4 more GCSEs left, finishing next Thursday.
I can’t wait for it to all be over

Fiddlersgreen · 16/06/2022 13:32

as always thanks to @OrangeCinnamonCroissant for the new thread and to @singingstones for the updated list

singingstones · 16/06/2022 13:40

Monkey, he has that thing (as do I) where you feel faint if you get up too quickly, is it called postural hypotension or something like that. Being hungry doesn't help and I bet stress doesn't either. He usually manages it fine by being careful but he has fainted a handful of times. It looks alarming because he goes down like a tree but he's never out for more than a split second. Luckily today he was on our rather narrow landing having jumped up from his bed, so there wasn't anything for him to hurt himself on.
I bought him 12 sausage rolls and he immediately polished off 6 of them 😱 So hopefully back at full strength again.

Heifer · 16/06/2022 14:01

Thanks for the new thread and listings.

DD had AQA Psychology paper 3 and said it was ok, not as good as P1 & P2 though but thinks she could still get an A on that paper so feels like she has done well enough to get a A overall (possibly A*) but is also well aware it could be lower as it's really hard to tell exactly how she has done. Guess we will find out in August.

Got Biology tomorrow morning and then that's it until the final Biology next Friday. She has a whole week to revise just Biology - I feel it could go either way, really gets stuck into it or drops right off and finds other things to do.... It would be a real shame not to take advantage of the spare time, especially when other taking Biology could well be taking Chemistry (2 papers next week) along with Maths.

Hope everyone gets to enjoy the lovely weather in some way. I'm off downstairs to get some lunch and some ice cream from the freezer :-) (what diet) - oh I have been drinking more water today though (it's much easier when it's hot)

EwwSprouts · 16/06/2022 14:18

Checking in. Thanks for the new thread & list.

@coffeeandbiscuittime DS thought it was hard too but did get to the end.

ChristopherTracy · 16/06/2022 14:35

Thanks for the new thread!

singingstones · 16/06/2022 14:40

DD found French writing GCSE ok, she has two more to go, both on Tuesday, but is taking the afternoon off to go shopping for a new outfit for Harry Styles on Sunday 🕺😍

Alsoplayspiccolo · 16/06/2022 14:54

Great thread title, Orange!

Well done to all those finishing exams today/this week.

OrangeCinnamonCroissant · 16/06/2022 15:21

Thank you @singingstones

I only have one destination twin for Dd. Lots of people talked about Southampton but it became a bit 'meh' I seem to remember rubbish weather not helping. We were nearby so could go at convenience. Dd says she can 'see' herself there and seems comfortable which is enough for me. Sometimes I get a funny 'woo' feeling when I'm there . I've done extensive research and attribute it to mystical Ley Lines. Either that or I'm just tired of stomping around the city. It's weird anyway 😂

@mummabear74 Am reminded that you and Dd were having a tough time. I hope you are OK 💐

MirandaWest · 16/06/2022 15:23

Thank you for new thread 😀

Exam marking (me) is very boring. And to think I've taken time off to do this....

DD is still being diligent (no GCSEs today but she's revising Chemistry and Physics for next week).

DS has gone out. I did suggest maybe some maths would be a good idea but meeting up with friends seems to have won. They are probably in a field near the local river. As he left he said his girlfriend might come round later as well. Am doing a good job of biting my lip on the "You need to do more work" front.

Is a good thing I've managed to get some HRT gel again - had to use patches for a while and that brought back the anxiety and rage 😂

ealingwestmum · 16/06/2022 15:40

Thank you Orange and Singing

Monkey2001 · 16/06/2022 15:42

Thanks for the new thread, another great title!

@coffeeandbiscuittime and @EwwSprouts on The Student Room 75% of people thought OCR was good/very good, but less than 50% for AQA, so it was not an easy paper - www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7190361

Oblomov22 · 16/06/2022 15:50

Ds1Just got home. He's finished. Hoorah.
He says pyschology went really well. He had a question on theory of mind and the sally anne task (that he himself failed years ago) and Rachel nickel case and bottoms up approach, all that we talked about last night.
Business was a hard paper but he thinks he's done well.

So relieved.

JudyGemstone · 16/06/2022 16:04

second time lucky!

Did anyones else’s child do A level AQA Law this week?
Sounds like there’s been an issue re the advance information and they had a 30 mk question they hadn’t covered.
theres a right to do about it on Twitter.

My son doesn’t seem to bothered, but some of his friends were in tears, uni hopes ruined etc

NCTDN · 16/06/2022 16:05

OCR psychology here - said it was ok but had no idea how some sit there not writing until the last second. She could have done with another hour.
