...water

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades. It's all relative!

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will find a thread within the Further Ed board.

Possibly a move to Parent of Adult Children Board in future? Post Results?

4! Sorry Delphi! I love your forward optimism on post grad studies :)

Shimy, hope your boy has a lovely weekend. And to all of you, exams next week or not…we’re all nearly there!

Monkey, I’m going to try and have a 48 hour birthday to 18th Aug, what a wonderful excuse for distraction purposes!

Cantonet · 17/06/2022 16:18

Ds1 will be in Canada on results day with his twin sister & DH seeing their 96 year old grandma & other relatives. He will get into his insurance anyway. So no distraction needed.
I am stuck at home with Ds2 who won't go.

@Delphigirl you're giving me hope.
It's been a hard slog academically with ds1.

I've just submitted my Covid test results for the first time.I was assuming we will all have Winter Boosters but some are saying we won't. So we will all get repeatedly infected then. Is that the plan?

Cantonet · 17/06/2022 16:20

@Shimy welcome back 🌺

coffeeandbiscuittime · 17/06/2022 16:22

We are supposed to be going to a festival on the 18th August - DD was coming, then with the no offers we have resigned ourselves to hanging around and seeing if anything comes up in clearing ( if she gets her grades!).
DD was then going out with mates and driving down Friday - now Prom is on the 19th so she is now staying at home - all a shame as it is probably the last year we will do a festival as a family and we will miss her prom.
So for us the 17th will be spent working and packing. Oh and celebrating my dads 84th birthday.

MirandaWest · 17/06/2022 16:39

DS is finally doing some more revision after the hiatus in the middle of the week. Part of this was talking about Developments in Christian Thought and me listening. He is now doing some Statistics at the kitchen table.

I have taken both 18th and 25th August off work for the double whammy of results days. Not sure what either of them will be like in the days before.

Alsoplayspiccolo · 17/06/2022 16:51

Well done to your fabulous DCs, seeline and Delphi, and welcome back, Shimy - so glad your DS has got through to the end of his exams; he’s shown real resilience and I’ve got everything crossed for him for August.

NCTDN · 17/06/2022 16:58

@HarrietDVane @ealingwestmum dd was also pleased with Spanish - hope that doesn't mean it was really easy and low grade boundaries though! She wrote 5 sides of a4 in Spanish. I don't think I could even do that in English!

NCTDN · 17/06/2022 17:00

@Shimy I'm a wreck from one event to the next atm!

Shimy · 17/06/2022 17:11

@mummyinbeds I've got fingers crossed for both of them that they do well in their Core Maths. Some universities give a lower offer if they get a B in it but apart from that it's a very good qualification to have so she's definitely on the ball.

@Seeline Congratulations on the award!

@ealingwestmum Thank you, he has started his long weekend already by being presented with his new phone for his 18th which i'd been keeping until after exams.
@Cantonet Thank you, it feels great to back Smile.

@Alsoplayspiccolo Thank you. He's a trooper and saw it through to the end, it's me, mum that's falling apart.

Fingers crossed for all the dc on here, they've been so hardworking, lots with various illnesses being managed alongside but it's only fired them on even more. Couldn't ask for more really so whatever results they get we'll continue cheering them on.

Shimy · 17/06/2022 17:14

@NCTDN Sorry to hear things are quite tough at the moment, has your dc finished their exams yet or is it aside from exams?

Monkey2001 · 17/06/2022 17:32

@ealing is it your birthday on results day? That could be a bit of a rollercoaster, but will hopefully be very happy.

@coffeeandbiscuittime I hope she gets a call from Sheffield on the day, but I am expecting things to happen in Clearing for medicine, particularly after some universities decided to keep people who have firmed other offers on their waiting lists. Obviously no good for us due to A level choices, but he is fairly well reconciled to the probable gap year.

We have just discussed a pre-results day fun thing and he is going to see if he can get a couple of friends together for an afternoon in a strong man gym with atlas stones, log press, yoke and other things which mean nothing to me, but are not available in Pure Gym and are very exciting to him! Then a meal at his favourite restaurant where they can unpick their performance, we are looking at it as a delayed 18th as we didn't do much for his actual birthday as we were moving stepmother-in-law. Maybe some of the other gym bunnies here might like to do something similar?

And well done to @Delphigirl DD and @Seeline DS, welcome back @Shimy . I wish there was a way to like posts without commenting as you can on FB.

crazycrofter · 17/06/2022 17:33

Welcome back @Shimy ! So glad he’s got through to the end!

Well done to @seeline and @Delphigirl dds!

Its ds’ birthday on 17th August so that will distract from the results a little. I don’t feel too worried about them really, what will be will be.

crazycrofter · 17/06/2022 17:35

@Monkey2001 that sounds fab! Both of mine are members at PureGym so I’ll have to look into it for ds’ birthday.

NCTDN · 17/06/2022 17:47

@Shimy nothing major! I just stress so much more than I ever used to. I'm sure it's an age thing.

Volterra · 17/06/2022 17:50

DS home and is fine and even better only has 2 next week and not 3 as one of them on the main timetable is an option he isn’t doing apparently.

EwwSprouts · 17/06/2022 17:59

@Delphigirl Fabulous news. Who doesn't love an 'it all came good ending'?

@ealingwestmum So pleased you mentioned cold water over wrists. I do this and years ago a GP friend ridiculed me for it as nonsense. But it does work!

DS did AQA biology. I haven't seen him yet but got an okay. I'm beginning to think okay is fob your mum off speak. He's gone to coach/play tennis. They will just melt on court. 29.5 according to my car on the way home which is not normal for Yorkshire Grin

EwwSprouts · 17/06/2022 18:02

@Shimy Delighted the MN vibe drew you back & that your DS got there!

Shimy · 17/06/2022 18:42

@NCTDN There's been has much to cause stress so all round, I'm not surprised you're stressed to be honest, I think most of us are also of the age of frayed nerves and high stress hormone-related which doesn't help. Right now this sun has got to the point where I can't think straight and sweat is trickling down my neck with all windows open and there's not a single ice lolly in Tesco so I'm hoping it cools down soon.

I do hope things improve for you soon @NCTDN and the banter on here helps Smile.

@EwwSprouts Thanks. Not so much the MN vibe but just the nice kind vibe created on this ongoing thread. If I'd posted anywhere else on MN about DS and his exams, am 100% certain someone would've popped up to say, 'You're over-invested, get a life, it's his life nothing to do with you etc' just a barage of unhelpful and unkind cutting remarks. It's a nice safe haven here, one that I'll miss once its all over.

NicolasSarkozysCumDumpster · 17/06/2022 18:44

What are your DCs planning to do over summer

272Newnames · 17/06/2022 18:54

Thank you @OrangeCinnamonCroissant and @singingstones for the thread and lists again.

have just got back from a wonderful 36hrs away with DH for our anniversary as DS had a break for a couple of days so felt we could leave him.

You lot post so much that I have just skimmed through this time I’m afraid. Apologies if I’ve missed questions from anyone.

@singingstones another one with reflux problems and take omeprazole. I’ve had two endoscopies (and colonoscopies) in the last few years. I also advise the sedation as long as you can get somebody to pick you up. You might have a bit of a sore throat afterwards it it’s not too bad and hopefully will reassure you that there is nothing serious going on.
Good Luck for it.

DS is currently out drinking by the local lake with friends. It’s that odd scenario where some of his friends have now finished yet he has three exams left next week. I think after an exam each day Monday to Thursday this week he needs a 36hr period off before starting work again tomorrow.

This time next week it will all be over!!!!!!!! Until august of course!

ealingwestmum · 17/06/2022 19:03

I think DD has a full 8 days from 21 June to results day ‘home’, with 3 x 24/36 hours mustwashmyclothesbeforenexttrip turnarounds.

Music tour to Italy (school), inter-railing with 6 friends and Seville with us. She is one lucky girl and I keep telling her, travel permitting, after a couple of challenging years, she has so much to look forward to. I also doubt that she will have to work as hard in year 1 of uni as she has over the last 2 years.

ealingwestmum · 17/06/2022 19:16

272 happy anniversary, and well done for getting away to celebrate. I hope all the investigative work has resulted in negatives, one colonoscopy here and the prep is truly a gruesome experience.

Eww, cold water maybe poo poohed, but it’s been the most effective calming method for me so far!

icanbewhatiwant · 17/06/2022 19:18

@ealingwestmum lucky dd. My dc's haven't really been abroad as dh won't go. He won't fly and has no desire to travel. I've always said one day I'll take the dc's abroad myself. But I never did. Dh would rather spend money on nice cars. Ds1 is hoping to travel abroad a couple of times this summer. I think ds2 would like to too.

Ds1 has done 2 negative covid tests today. He will do one tomorrow when he's back here, he's emptying his house and returning home later, I'll make sure he does it properly. He's also phoned the airline and no covid test needed. They paid £50 each for one too. So hopefully will be ok for USA. The 3 years at university went very quickly.

Hattifatteners · 17/06/2022 19:31

Well done @Seeline DD!
DD did Biology today too. According to her it went well, much better than paper 1 (Edexcel Salters-Nuffield).
DD has booked a house in Brighton with her friends for three nights to celebrate the end of exams. We will also be spending time in my home country before the results day.

ProggyMat · 17/06/2022 20:24

Well done to all that sat exams today! ⭐️
Whoop to all that have finished this week- enjoy! ⭐️🥳
As a horsey lass, I’m sending positive vibes to those of us with DC that have cleared the last hurdle/fence at Cheltenham this week and are galloping up that bloody hill to the finish line!
