This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades. It's all relative!

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will find a thread within the Further Ed board.

Possibly a move to Parent of Adult Children Board in future? Post Results?

Wow @mummyinbeds dd and friend also caught the tube but didn’t have to wait that long! Her friend lives somewhere near Bedford and they got home around 1. Watching a few videos it did look amazing! Dd got a really good spot too, quite close to the front.

crazycrofter · 20/06/2022 23:04

Ah I see you were there Saturday night @mummyinbeds so obviously the queues were worse than on the Sunday?

Monkey2001 · 20/06/2022 23:44

Last day for DS tomorrow (hurray!) plus the job interview in the morning. Someone on the waiting list for Newcastle with 1 more point one interview score than DS has said she has an offer, which is very surprising but makes me think that he might still be in with a chance. Having put lots of work into sorting stuff for a gap year, if he gets his hospital job he is saying he might ask if he can defer if he gets a place now. It is very hard for them to plan 2 tracks, depending on whether an offer comes through of not. At least life is not boring right now!

Sorry for all the AQA Chemistry people. If it was shared on Tiktok nobody can estimate how many people saw it. In 2019 Edexcel Maths Applied Maths was leaked, turned out that it was an Exams Officer at a school in East London. I think it is really hard to prevent leaks - you have to trust the integrity of a lot of people. Maybe the future is on line exams for all.

mummyinbeds · 21/06/2022 00:02

@crazycrofter DD's friend was also there on Saturday and was on a tube within 10 minutes and back home (somewhere near Bedford) by 1am. I guess we were unlucky - my fault for needing a wee 🤣

Volterra · 21/06/2022 06:10

Good luck to them all today and to your DS forbhis interview @Monkey2001 🍀🍀 He’s been so good at dealing with all this .

MirandaWest · 21/06/2022 06:16

Last day of exams for DS. I have woken up the most nervous I’ve felt all exam season (until results day I’m sure!)

ealingwestmum · 21/06/2022 07:15

🤞🤞Monkey, and best of luck to all those sitting today. I have my DD back (albeit for how long?). It is wonderful. For however long the good mood lasts…

singingstones · 21/06/2022 07:19

Good luck everyone 🍀 - last day for DS and DD here today

Seeline · 21/06/2022 08:19

Good luck everyone for today.

Small bits of revision still happening here, but with a week between her previous exam and her last exam on Friday, I think all motivation has gone! It's a very long week.

kiwiandcherries · 21/06/2022 08:28

@crazycrofter @mummyinbeds my dd was at Wembley on Saturday too - she said it was amazing and hasn't stopped talking about it. She had a wait to get to the tube but not that long and said that the security guys were blasting Harry's music through a megaphone which kept them happy. Thankfully she and her friends stayed in a hotel as part of her birthday present as they would have missed the last train home!

It was her last exam yesterday so she's all done and just has the long wait now! Good luck to all those who are still going and sorry to hear about all who have had stressful moments, illness and paper leaks to contend with - this is hard enough without all that on top!

EwwSprouts · 21/06/2022 08:31

Good luck to all those with exams on another hot day. Maths here.

@Monkey2001 Hope the interview goes swimmingly.

scabby1 · 21/06/2022 08:50

Last day of exams for Ds today- OCR maths & mechanics.
Despite my efforts, we couldn’t get a taxi to take him into the City today, so he is planning on trying to take a few buses or walking. I feel very guilty, but he assures me that a 2 hour walk is fine and if he leaves early enough he has plenty of time to rest before the exam 😬 (We don’t have a car).
(He had the option of staying at a friends house last night who is only a 45 min walk from school, but he was worried he might not be able to sleep if he wasn’t in his own bed. I’m now thinking I should have forced him to go!)
Good luck to everyone.

Heifer · 21/06/2022 08:51

@Monkey2001 good luck to your DS today - what a day - hope he is celebrating tonight :-)

Good luck to all taking exams today - I believe RE, German & Maths. Do we have anyone taking German?

DD is still revising but I agree with @Seeline having a week in between last 2 exams isn't a good as I thought it would be, as not revising as hard as previously. I guess still 3 more days so she could surprise me yet. It's hard when so many of her friends have finished already.

Heifer · 21/06/2022 08:53

@scabby1 - your DS sounds very mature. I am sure my DD would have moaned a lot... Hope he gets there ok - have you asked him to message you when he gets there so you can relax :-)

scabby1 · 21/06/2022 09:08

@Heifer yes, I’ve asked him to message me.
He’s very chilled about it- unlike me!
He’s eating breakfast now and will set off at 10. The exams not till 1.30, so should be ok.
My DD (lower sixth) walked to school this morning. It’s “only” an hour to her school, but she managed to send me multiple moan texts en route!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 21/06/2022 09:20

Good luck to everyone sitting today. DS worked on Friday, 10 hours on Sunday and last night for 6 hours. Tonight he is going out with his gf. He has a history exam in the morning. 🙄

icanbewhatiwant · 21/06/2022 09:43

@Seeline @Heifer it's going to be 2 weeks from ds's exam Tuesday last week, until his final one on 28th. I think his motivation has gone too. Most of his mates have finished. 2 weeks is a long gap! I have just woken him up for the second time this morning. He did go into school yesterday for RS lesson. I don't know whether he's going in today.

I hope the dc's with exams today get on ok.

ExtremelyDedicated · 21/06/2022 09:52

@Fiddlersgreen yes AQA (higher, they only do separate sciences at her school because it is so small) for DD too. She said it was "ok" but couldn't get much more out of her.

ChristopherTracy · 21/06/2022 09:56

DS stressed about the last maths today. Snapped at me last night and claims he doesnt remember this morning. Will be so pleased when these are over on Friday!

Volterra · 21/06/2022 10:05

It is rubbish that they have the hassle of getting to the exams on top of everything, your DS sounds great @scabby1 .

Think at this point @ChristopherTracy it must feel like it has gone forever and with some of the boards some of the maths papers have been hard by the sound of it so he must be wondering what he will be facing this time. Friday is within sight, hang in there💐

DS’s mate sat STEP 3 paper yesterday and said it was better than their horrific Further Maths paper last week.

crazycrofter · 21/06/2022 10:38

Wow @scabby1 - my dd would never do a 2 hour walk before an exam. That’s her cramming time! No moaning from her though as I had to drive her in - 50 mins in traffic each way 😩 So glad it’s her last one.

Good luck for ds’ interview @Monkey2001

ExtremelyDedicated · 21/06/2022 11:48

@Heifer I agree about the big gaps, DS has only done one A level (2 BTECs) which we thought was good as less pressure now, but it has meant three papers spaced over a month with complete empty weeks in between, it has been too long to keep up the revision for just one paper at a time. His last is tomorrow, he worked flat out last week and has not been able to keep it up. His teacher has put on a revision session today and he's going out with friends after school so hopefully that will both focus and de-stress him

Takeittotheboss · 21/06/2022 11:50

Last two exams (RS and Maths) today for my DS.
@MirandaWest I know what you mean about feeling the most nervous today. I have had a strange feeling of panic and worry in my stomach all morning. I think I will feel better when I've seen/heard him at the weekend.🤔 (He's a boarder, so no worries re the trains).

coffeeandbiscuittime · 21/06/2022 12:03

@Monkey2001 sending good luck vibes for your DS but still really hoping he gets that offer!

MirandaWest · 21/06/2022 12:07

@Takeittotheboss last two exams for my DS as well. Right now I’m ok as he isn’t in an exam but I will be nervous again when maths starts. I hope this morning went well for him
