Thread 33 - Lovely Jubbly Jubilee Break, then back to Exams

1000 replies

OrangeCinnamonCroissant · 27/05/2022 17:10

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board. Possibly a move to Parent of Adult Children Board in future?

@Monkey2001 Fire hooping? God how terrifying. DD naturally said 'oh that looks fun'. I nearly fainted at the thought.

ExtremelyDedicated · 03/06/2022 11:04

@Heifer we got the approval letter and it had appended to it the list of things which were agreed plus contact details for the suppliers. One for all the computer stuff, one for the mentoring and the assessment centre who did the assessment for training on all the softwares. Wishing we’d done it earlier in the week as it’s all phone numbers and we could have called together, DS will be back in boarding for the whole week from sun night. They had email addresses too so we are going to do it that way, we have to send in a copy of the letter to each place. One thing which someone on WIWIKAU or here (can’t remember) pointed out was that you do have to store all the stuff and transport it to uni, not too bad if it’s only say laptop and printer, but some people have special desks and chairs or other larger items.

KingscoteStaff · 03/06/2022 11:48

We watched the flypast - but mainly because it flew directly over the cricket pitch where DS was playing!

Street party here tomorrow - DD is taking her revision to Starbucks...

She has just received a good luck card from her Granny - who did her School Certificates in Biology/Double Maths/Physics 76 years ago and is delighted that one of her grandchildren has inherited the scientific genes!

mango0 · 03/06/2022 17:57

The jubilee has passed me by too, and I'm working all weekend!

DD seems to have got her head down and back into revision after returning from our camping trip. She starts next week with English Language paper 2 on Monday, she seems more confident about this one than paper 1, and has actually done some work. I do hope she manages to get a decent grade in English and that it doesnt turn out she's spread herself too thin by keeping on the 4th subject. She then has Maths paper 1 on Tuesday and on Wednesday Psychology paper 2 and Further Maths paper 2. Probably a full on week but by Wednesday afternoon she'll be over half way through her tests.

I can’t remember who it was that shared the recipe for brown butter, almond and berry tray bake but I’ve just made it and it tastes gorgeous!
Thank you to whoever it was. 🥰

Oblomov22 · 03/06/2022 19:05

Crazy, Heifer and Mummy, I (ds1 did it for me) have PM you the Notts accommodation Snapchat.

PaddingtonPaddington · 03/06/2022 19:11

DD plodding on with revision. Seems to be doing one day revising, one day off but anything is a bonus in my mind. Her first written exam is next week and the last one the following week. She woke up with a sore throat this morning and was convinced it was covid but test is negative (DS was ill last weekend so it’s probably the same illness and hopefully will be ok in a few days).

For DDs DSA the assessment company contacted all the suppliers for DD then they phoned/emailed her with next step. Still sorting the equipment as DD wanted to upgrade the laptop.

ProggyMat · 03/06/2022 19:19

i enjoyed watching the trooping the colour and little Tuesday’s victory in the Epsom Oaks- although I haven’t done what I wanted to do with two days off work…
DD has cast off her ‘dressing gown of doom’ whilst I’ve been home and worked last night in the pub.
Shes got 2 exams on Monday (clash) which will see one A level done ‘ n’ dusted and 5/10 papers completed.
She’s got another paper next Friday then it’s two per week until 23rd June.

crazycrofter · 03/06/2022 20:14

Thanks @Oblomov22 ! She’s got a friend from her old school who’s also going to be in Rutland so I’ve told her to pass it on to her too.

HarrietDVane · 03/06/2022 20:16

Hello all - just checking in. DD has Spanish on Tuesday and History on Friday this week. She's been working well but is starting to flag a bit - overdoing it, possibly? Hope you're all enjoying the long weekend.

icanbewhatiwant · 03/06/2022 21:16

Ds has RS on Thursday...philosophy of religion. Then history Friday. That's history finished then. Then just 2 more RS exams with almost 2 week gap.

I have kept covid to myself so far. I spend 7 days either in my room or in the garden. DH has slept in Ds1's empty room for 9 nights. I think he's coming back in our room tonight. I'm still testing positive though. So I hope it's ok and I'm not shedding virus.

mummyinbeds · 04/06/2022 11:22

Thank you @Oblomov22

Oblomov22 · 04/06/2022 11:32

No problem at all.

Crazy, Heifer and Mummy, I (ds1 did it for me) have PM you the Notts accommodation Snapchat.

Could you send to me too please?

ChristopherTracy · 05/06/2022 10:53

Nottingham accommodation snapchat? This will serve me right for going away over half term! Nothing much to report here. Two exams this week, very little work being done but atmosphere so far chilled.

Isthisjustnormal · 05/06/2022 11:10

dSA people - ds had his interview and the provisional letter confirming details a while ago: what’s the point at which you press go and can get things ordered? He seems to think it’s not until after results but I’m sure I’ve heard on here and through WIWIKAU of people ordering earlier. (What happens if you don’t get your grades in that situation I wonder?!)

Oblomov22 · 05/06/2022 12:09

Popcorn and CT, of course I will send, but you do realise it's not a general Nott accommodation chat, it's Rxtland only?

EwwSprouts · 05/06/2022 14:41

Quiet here too especially as pouring down. DS has upped his revision with three exams looming this week, to a bit in the morning and a bit in the afternoon. Better late than never!

Monkey2001 · 05/06/2022 16:47

My DS has gone to his GF's grandad 's birthday party which is 3 hours away, but as her mum is his maths teacher he will get some extra tuition on the way! I think he and GF are planning to do a Physics paper together in the back of the car - very romantic!

crazycrofter · 05/06/2022 17:25

Aw, how sweet @Monkey2001 ! A very committed boyfriend too, going to her grandad’s party 👍 Dd has gone to the library for the afternoon and evening again, after going to church this morning. Not much sign of revision from ds but no doubt it will suddenly feel urgent this evening!

mummyinbeds · 05/06/2022 18:07

I've caught DS revising twice today! He has an exam in the morning. I think last minute cramming is his style ( was mine too but I haven't admitted that to him)

Good luck to all those with exams this week 🍀

singingstones · 05/06/2022 19:20

What's everyone got tomorrow? We have DS doing his first biology paper and DD gcse economics tomorrow morning.

Has anyone seen the thread about the DD who was found with a phone on her, gave me the willies and I will be annoying the DC with a lecture about phones shortly 🤓

Piggywaspushed · 05/06/2022 19:37

Economics tomorrow pm for DS. Have trawled my way through 10000s of revision cards. It's somewhat dull...

Piggywaspushed · 05/06/2022 19:39

Not seen the phone thread! Where's that?

Heifer · 05/06/2022 19:43

@singingstones what board is your DS doing for Biology? DDs is on Thursday (AQA) but I thought all boards put subjects on at the same day?

No, not seen phone in exam thread either (stuff of nightmares)
