This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

Sorry to read that quite a few of our regular posters are coming down with the virus and we wish them all the best in their recoveries FlowersDaffodilCakeWineGin

PaddingtonPaddington · 08/08/2021 14:22

Thanks Orange

piggy hope you’re doing ok. Heifer sorry to hear about your DD and fingers crossed for you.

Finally DD is 17, she was so surprised at her little old car, her face was a picture. Went out for a short practice at a friends farm and did ok considering it was her first attempt. Going to try and take her out most days until driving instructor can fit her in next month. Hopefully my patience will last that long.

estherfrewen · 08/08/2021 14:26

Thanks for the new thread. Hope everyone who is ill is soon on the mend. DS got his lifeguard qualification yesterday after a long week so he is very happy with himself.

Thanks for the new thread. I hope covid sufferers aren’t suffering too badly.

ealingwestmum · 08/08/2021 16:23

Thank you Orange.

Lovely that she appreciated the keys to her future freedom Paddington

Congratulations to your DS Esther, that qualification sets him up for leisure centre /pool work wherever he ends up which is very liberating!

icanbewhatiwant · 08/08/2021 16:42

Thanks for the new thread. Also thanks to whoever explained how to get emails when mentioned. I have just turned it to on.

I hope those with covid soon recover and those vaccinated keep well.

Nard75 · 08/08/2021 16:51

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 08/08/2021 19:53

Thank you!

Haven’t caught up with the end of the last thread but can see from above that some of you have been suffering with COVID. So sorry to hear this and hope recoveries are speedy.

Its been a quiet few weeks for us, DS job hunting and having no success, but good news is he was vaccinated yesterday. Went in to a drop in and they were delighted to have him show up, they really wanted him to let all his friends know and to get them to come along.

Hey gang: just checking in :-)

Hope that the plague houses are both doing OK @piggy @Heifer ;-) and happy birthday @PaddingtonPaddington's dd!

Ds has completed his two week cypersecurity course, so next week is EPQ, comp sci project and second draft of PS. I had been wishing he's managed to get a job sorted, but tbh I don't know how he'd fit it all in! Our (state) school has a relatively short summer hol this year (5.5 weeks) as we have a 2 week half term: both my two are whinging a LOT about loosing those 2.5 days ;-)

I'm feeling really behind on uni decisions at the mo: Ds made a good initial run but has lost impetus: he was planning to do the Bath stay and talk thing, but the dates ended up clashing so we had to cancel: we're ogg to Devon for a couple of weeks and think I need to organise some en route /en route back visits to get him back in the mood: Bath and Bristol probably...

Anyone on here looking at Durham/York/lancaster? I THINK a college system would suit ds (ASD, and prefers smaller/more manageable numbers; not a social butterfly!) but I don't know much about any of them: anyone who does, fancy giving me the lowdown?

I know there was also someone on here whose dc was looking at comp sci: if you're still here/fancy a comp sci chat, drop me a pm!

EwwSprouts · 08/08/2021 21:05

Finally got DS to apply for his provisional licence!

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 08/08/2021 21:25

@AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore my nephew is going to Lancs so I can let you know in about 3 months. He has ASD too (Aspergers) is off to do Maths. He is rather lovely and has been a intern/TA for year 6s this year,/which has seen him blossom I think. My DSis was worried but perfectly happy now she has been to campus and seen how supportive it all is..and green.

All my nephews and nieces are lovely of course...I feel like I have to say that there are lots of them and can't show favouritism!
