I LOVE the thread title.

veiledsentiments · 31/10/2018 14:45

Joining in so I stay on the thread. Can't believe it's only 6 more weeks of term here. 8 more for me, with no half- term, and I am feeling dead on my feet. Youngest has a whole weekend of psychology lectures to attend at school this weekend. She will be delightful in the car by the time Sunday morning roles round and another week to get through. Husband STILL hasn't made the IKEA furniture I bought last week. Golf is taking a priority. I might take the hump!

whistl · 31/10/2018 15:03

veiledsentiments, don't take the hump, take the irons!

Terf2Terf · 31/10/2018 15:45

Thanks for new thread!

And thanks for meningitis jab reminder, I will ask school about it.

DS text me today at work to tell me he's applying for some work exp with JPMorgan but what do I think he should say in the "why do I want to work here" section. I replied telling him to ask one of the many staff employed in his (ofsted rated) outstanding school who are better qualified in such matters

Kilash · 31/10/2018 17:17

Checking in. Quiet half term here, not much going on for ds so he is practicing UKMT for the Senior challenge next week. Feel a bit sad that his social life is a bit stagnant. However it does mean he's willing to spend a bit of time with me!

sandybayley · 31/10/2018 17:30

Also checking in - still pre-occupied with house moving and away for a few days for half term. It's very dark in the country (Welsh borders).

DS1 is back from Japan and has been to the KCL Chemistry taster day today. He's home alone and seems to be coping well - even did a couple of maths papers this morning. He loved Japan and got a lot out of the trip - STEM focus but a bit of culture thrown in.

TheFirstOHN · 31/10/2018 17:53

Sorry I've been a bit quiet. We're away on holiday with intermittent wi-fi.

TheFirstOHN · 31/10/2018 17:54

sandybayley how did the KCL taster day go?
DS2 has a Cambridge one the weekend after next.

LimitIsUp · 31/10/2018 18:14

Place marking.

Agggh - over the road have got fireworks (for Halloween ?!?), cue one dog trembling and cowering and the other barking like a thing possessed

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 31/10/2018 18:31

Checking in. Thanks for the new thread Flowers

I'm not posting much any more but I'm still really enjoying keeping up with you all.

Dd is doing better than I could have hoped at sixth form. Loving her subjects and loving the big city. She has dyed her hair purple!

Driving lessons start next week Shock

Oratory1 · 31/10/2018 18:31

Talking of taster days, just been having a google for DS as he is now considering Uni as well as apprenticeships, or at least wants to have a look if we can find a practical course ideally with a placement year. Annoyingly I found a three day easter course but his easter holiday is early and this one falls after he has gone back. Found a day at Royal Holloway though through the University of London Tasters so will book that for March. The London ones seem to cover most subjects between them (just google University of London Taster Days).
DS wouldn't want to study in London but the tasters may help with subject choice and type of course.

Oh and for all you Maths bods out there Oxford are running a 'further maths - what next ?' day on 13th March - aimed at talented maths students in year 12 who might not want to do straight maths but don't know what else is out there - it includes sessions by tutors in Economics, CS, philosophy etc etc

Not sure if your ds if doing FM whistl but may not matter

KingscoteStaff · 31/10/2018 19:36

Lovely new thread!

ShalomJackie · 31/10/2018 19:59

Checking in.
Had a busy, busy day with Oxbridge Assessments today.

Lots of new Cambridge ones now AS levels have (mainly) gone. All different lengtgs, some with 2 papers, some taking 2 different ones for joint honours applications, some with extra time lead to lots of different start stops etc all going on and a great spreadsheet to ensure it all went smoothly.

Papers (well the ones that meant anything to me) seemed tougher this year!!

BlueBelle123 · 31/10/2018 20:07

shalom probably completely showing my Oxbridge ignorance but can anyone sit these papers or have applied or do you have to be invited?

Thanks for the new thread.

BlueBelle123 · 31/10/2018 20:09

Sorry that didn't make sense I mean does everyone that applies to Cambridge sit an exam depending on what course or do the Uni look at the applications and invite certain people to sit the exam.

BlueBelle123 · 31/10/2018 20:15

Talking to DS today, he was telling me just how much he is enjoying 6th form, I know I tend to whinge about his school but I have to admit he is very happy there and if there was a suitable alternative in our area, I know I would never of got him to go Smile

He's currently at a halloween party, I on the otherhand have scared myself silly with the haunting of Hill House whilst eating all the sweets meant for the trick or treaters that have not materialised Blush

Terf2Terf · 31/10/2018 20:59

Look what I got on my Facebook feed!
Happy Halloween @ShalomJackie

Stickerrocks · 31/10/2018 22:05

Love the pumpkin! My car has been catapulted this evening and the passenger door badly damaged by an egg (of all things). Perhaps I should get DD to do an EPQ on the ability of a humble egg to shatter paintwork....

Sostenueto · 01/11/2018 05:55

Thanks for new thread love the title!Flowers

Sostenueto · 01/11/2018 06:07

First uni visit booked January 4th. Unis being sorted to Cambridge,Bristol, Leicester, UEA, Leeds and a few others. ( sigh)

Sostenueto · 01/11/2018 06:11

EPQs don't start till next year in dgds school and the school decides who does them. Dgd still doing 4 A levels again school decides mainly if you should drop. They call you in for meeting to discuss first though some have already dropped one ( mainly those that scrapped in to do 4 but find they definately can't cope with it)

whistl · 01/11/2018 06:37

Stickerrocks why did someone throw an egg at your car?

PeggyIsInTheNarrative · 01/11/2018 07:22

Whistl the egg will have been somebody's idea of Halloween fun I guess? That os bloody annoying Sticker.
