doistayordoigo
thank you for our kind offer, I may take you up on it, he has been a volunteer cadet and is going to look a being a special in Lincoln, if he fits it around studying, rugby and partying Smile

NoHaudinMaWheest · 15/09/2018 10:27

Good luck to all those dropping off today.

With regard to term dates it really isn't like school, each university can do exactly what it likes.

I am not sure why Scottish ones start early now. In my day it was the beginning - middle of October. It can't be just because of early Scottish exams and results as (a) that was always the case and (b) many Scottish universities have a minority of Scottish students.

TheThirdOfHerName · 15/09/2018 11:10

I seem to remember that some on here are partial to a craft project.
DH just sent me this

Knittinganewme · 15/09/2018 12:16

"hand woven" not "hand weaved"

and I make my own soap

I'm sure DS is taking too much (although he reckons it's nothing compared to others). The gradual emptying of his room into front room has unearthed an iTunes voucher and two amazon vouchers, so he now has another job to check if used or not!
Think we're about there, just last minute devices/chargers to do. He's off in a bit for a rugby match then final washing can be done.
Last supper tonight - he's requested roast dinner 😁
We have morning slot tomorrow so aim to leave at 8am. It's about a 2hr drive.

2BoysandaCairn · 15/09/2018 12:38

Third
Congrats to your Ds on BBC, and Leicester, Ds is planning on playing Rugby League for Lincoln, Leicester are in his league, Lincoln aren't great Grin
flatmouse
you sound like us, 7 seater car will be full, so need two cars.
Ds 2 mates who went week, Huddersfield, parents seem to bring at least a third home!!
Ds suddenly seems to be Imeda Marcos, debating which trainers to take, plus rugby boots. Shock

TheThirdOfHerName · 15/09/2018 13:33

DS1 had his last shift at work today. They gave him a card, some craft beers and a box of cupcakes decorated with photos of some of his favourite bands.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 15/09/2018 13:40

That's really thoughtful the third

TheThirdOfHerName · 15/09/2018 13:50

That job has been such a positive experience for him. Barista training is always useful, his boss is kind, his coworkers are lovely and the customers are unusually polite. In restrospect I'm glad he didn't get the job at Harry Potter Studios, or he would never have applied for this job.

FantasyAndHope · 15/09/2018 15:51

I agree marmite printed t-shirts may be the next step.
Fell behind, yet again...

I have started a new job as a result I have a cold which dd has now picked up and is saying ‘you’ve given me freshers flu before freshers’ Grin

It’s dd lasts shifts this weekend too! Her last one tomorrow but she’s in today for some extra money. She forgot to cancel a free gym membership so the money has been taken out and now she’s not happy... might make her pay attention to her calendar a bit more Hmm
I hope work will get her something as she worked throughout her alevels and worked at last minute sometimes only been notified the night before and I feel she has done a lot for them, however her manager has being vile with her and said some horrible things about her lack of common sense or was she sure she would make it to London Hmm
So I doubt she will have got her something but dd has got her a Thankyou card. That’s lovely of them though Third

Hope all the arrivals went smoothly!

GnomeDePlume · 15/09/2018 16:42

Good luck to everyone still to move. DD2 is now moved in. She just wanted us to drop and run so that was what we did.

She is in one of the older blocks at Sheffield. Good sized room and enough storage in the kitchen.

She has made her bed and is now having a nap, trying to make up for only 2 hours sleep last night!

starfleet · 15/09/2018 17:02

DS has been dropped off.

We were early birds and managed to get his stuff up to the room in about 25 minutes. They had luggage trolleys in the car park so we just had to load up, push into the lift and unload. Managed to park right outside the door and then just moved to the road when our slot was up. I thought he had far too much stuff - not that much after seeing others unload their cars! The big supermarket close to his halls was full of parent/student combos buying up pasta and cereal in bulk!

I was fine until my hulking 6'4" DS got upset as I left. Then I wasn't.

flatmouse · 15/09/2018 17:19

Aw starfleet, think I've got some dust in my eyes!
Bit worried about embarrassing DS tomorrow although I know DD will mock me if I cry.
Well done to those already dropped. gnome is she off out tonight after batteries recharged?

LoniceraJaponica · 15/09/2018 17:24

"I am not sure why Scottish ones start early now"

This term at Glasgow is 14 weeks long!
14 weeks of partying, and maybe doing a little bit of work with no break in the middle makes for a very long term.

HesMyLobster · 15/09/2018 17:34

Oh goodness. Just catching up and feeling all emotional for those of you doing "the drop" today.
Thinking of you all ThanksGinCake
DD leaves a week today then we are taking her stuff down the following Weekend. (She's doing an extra "pre" week but can't move into her own room until the rest of the freshers on 30th) I think the staggered start makes it easier somehow as there isn't just one date to focus on. Maybe. Will see how I feel this time next week!
Hi 2boys I have 2 close friends with dc at Lincoln - they have both been really impressed. One girl is just going into 3rd year of criminology and has absolutely loved it.

Knittinganewme · 15/09/2018 17:49

Ds has more storage than things to store.

starfleet · 15/09/2018 18:03

We used the emptied storage boxes as under bed "drawers" for socks etc as there is no drawer space to speak of in DS's room. Lots of wardrobe space though.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 15/09/2018 18:22

star that's hard.
He will probably be fine once the moment is over.

Bakeandyarn · 15/09/2018 18:42

Oh Star Flowers I hope he’s ok.

Petalflowers · 15/09/2018 18:43

Can’t beat a good roast.

chocolateworshipper · 15/09/2018 19:05

captain I'll pencil you in

chocolateworshipper · 15/09/2018 19:07

starfleet Flowers That's so sweet, although understandably upsetting too.

UrsulaPandress · 15/09/2018 19:25

DD successfully dropped off. Huge room. Loads of storage. Forgot several things so no doubt I'll be bobbing back next week. No tears. From her or me. She's concerned that her flat mates all have boyfriends and will therefore be no fun.

captainoftheshipwreck · 15/09/2018 19:37

Thank you chocolate. Leaving time is 7am. ETA 10am if DH drives, approx 6pm if it's me. DD hoping it will be dad. Grin
