I'm loving your drop off stories. Glad they are in and you have survived.

Lily125 · 16/09/2018 00:03

The moving in stories all sound so positive. Well done to all, intrepid parents and students on such an important day. My turn next SundayConfused!

Downeyhouse · 16/09/2018 04:19

Da rolled in at 4am and came to say goodnight.

We sat and chatted for an hour. Am going to miss these late night chats.

Last time until Christmas :(

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/09/2018 06:27

I'm not sure I'd fancy a chat at 4am Grin dd has been away all weekend. I think she is next weekend too which will be her last one before she goes off.

I see we are getting close to the end of this thread. I'll start a new one soon.

Just catching up after a mad week at work. I'm in Berlin with DD for a four day break - we planned our itinerary to the nth degree....but without realising that it was the weekend of the Berlin Marathon ConfusedIts going to be fun getting around today.

DS1 leaves next Sunday. He registered at a new doctors surgery last night but apart from that doesn't appear to have realised that D-Day is looming.

Some of you might remember that I was a little worried as his girlfriend didn't seem very excited about going away and I thought that might affect the way he approached uni. Well, they split up last week - at his instigation. He said that the rowing over the last few weeks wasn't helping his MH. I liked his gf but I was a little bit relieved. BUT, he is spending a lot of time with a girl he was friendly with from his old school - don't know whether that's serious though.

When I get back, I'll take him for the remaining bits he needs (realised last night whilst sipping my (large) pilsner that he had no pans). He knows Newcastle well and his DSis is round the corner at Durham so doesn't have the trepidation of a brand new city. He's in a flat of four (which is a bit smaller than I would have hoped for) - I've told him he must keep an open mind.

DD doesn't start back officially till 8th October but is going up next Sunday too so I shall lose two thirds of my DC in one day. I'm admitting it now...there will be lots of tears. DS1 and I have been through a lot over the last two and a half years and I'm hoping (as we all are about our DCs) that he copes with the transition. He's not the most organised person neither is he great at getting out of bed.....

HoveringHobbit · 16/09/2018 07:13

Think we need a potato masher in the new title...for those of you wondering DS has one

HoveringHobbit · 16/09/2018 07:29

Wrong thread Blush

GnomeDePlume · 16/09/2018 07:39

Well, DD2 has had an adventurous first night away, getting to know the city!

One of her flatmates fell over and cut his head open so DD2 and another flatmate spent the night at A&E with the casualty!

It is one way to all get to know each other!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/09/2018 07:50

lol Hobbit! I can't keep up between the two threads either..

oops Gnome. Was imbibing involved?

Good on your daughter Gnome!
Am sure she won’t forget he first night in a hurry :)

LoniceraJaponica · 16/09/2018 07:52

Ah, the joys of the Hallamshire A and E on a Saturday night. I hope everything is OK.

PandaG · 16/09/2018 07:53

Oh no Gnome but as you say, a good way to get to know each other! If I remember rightly your DD is in Sheffield - so are we if she needs any local knowledge!? Minor Injuries is open at the Hallamshire Hospital during the day, much quicker to get seen there than A and E for a more minor accident if she needs it in future.

DS doesn't go for another 2 weeks! He tried his Dad's old gown on yesterday, he'd worn it as Harry Potter a number of times, but in a fortnight he will be wearing it for real! Falling in love with his Dad's old college, even though he had no intention of applying there, has saved him £45!

GnomeDePlume · 16/09/2018 08:22

Thank you for the tip PandaG I will let DD know. She is all too often the one holding back friends' hair at the end of nights out.

OYBBK yes I think there may have been a few drinks involved!

I think they are waiting for someone to come and superglue the casualty's head back together but understandably he is at the bottom of the priority list.

LoniceraJaponica · 16/09/2018 08:27

"She is all too often the one holding back friends' hair at the end of nights out."

Sounds like my DD.

venetian25 · 16/09/2018 09:05

I have mainly lurked on this thread but really enjoying the dropping off stories and gained some great tips throughout my lurking (sorry).

Our turn next Saturday, DD off to Warwick - sorted out her bedroom yesterday and now starting to feel very real.

Anyway wanted to thank you for sharing your stories and sorry for lurking.

TheThirdOfHerName · 16/09/2018 09:21

DS1 has a friend M.
M went to uni yesterday, about 150 miles away.
M forgot his wallet. So DS1 has offered to take it up there on the train today. He is a lovely person, but he is a bit of a rescuer.

If someone is ill on a night out, it's always him who looks after them and makes sure they get home safely, even if it means that he then misses his last train and has to walk 5 miles to get home (yes, this has happened).

TheThirdOfHerName · 16/09/2018 09:22

So today he will be collecting the wallet, going 3.5 hours on the train to deliver it, then coming straight back as he has a driving lesson and assistive technology training tomorrow morning.

raspberryripple
We go today in between 1300 and 1500. Dining room full of boxs and laundry bags.
We have 15 minutes to empty car.
I will try and update this evening.
Is it normal for Ds to both nervous and excited?
Pretty sure we will need tissues and Gin

ShanghaiDiva · 16/09/2018 10:00

Venetian25
I will also be at Warwick on Saturday with Ds.

UrsulaPandress · 16/09/2018 11:10

She has survived her first night. Went to Spoons with flat mates but back early (3am) as all tired. Bed is comfy. But it was a long walk. No it's not she is just not used to walking anywhere.

starfleet · 16/09/2018 11:22

DS stayed in. Out of the 5 of them that have arrived only one girl went out and the others stayed in and ordered pizza.

No comments on the bed yet...

GnomeDePlume · 16/09/2018 11:44

DD2 finally got back after 8 hours in A&E. Plans to sleep now. I don't think she will care what the bed is like.

Good wishes to everyone travelling today.

venetian25 · 16/09/2018 12:07

@ShanghaiDiva

Good luck to you and your DS for next Saturday.

DD is very excited and looking forward to living independently and meeting new people.

FantasyAndHope · 16/09/2018 12:44

Dds last day at work today! It all seems real now!
She’s texted to say the manage has been very cold with her this morning

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/09/2018 12:47

Definitely normal 2boys!
