today has been long but successful. Dropped off by train, and felt very smug at all the people trying to unload their cars in 15 seconds flat...until I tried lugging all the Click and Collect and groceries (I lost my nerve at last moment and bought groceries from local supermarket) back to his room and then he had gone off to get his Fresher's wrist band, and disappeared completely from lugging duties.
I cannot believe he is in such a beautiful city (Lobster, I think you are next for the starry eyed feelings, same city, different uni)
Very amazed by the sight of all the parents bringing in boxes and boxes of possessions, included potted palms, Nutella filled biscuits, dinner services (4 place settings) rice cookers, steam irons (I was wrong about that, it obviously is allowed but ds doesn't get one) And siblings part of the wave goodbye too. Was mindful of the need not to talk to any parents as it is not School Gate. Hope I didn't overdo this, but ds was giving me dastardly look when I attempted pleasantries.
Beautiful city alas equals no storage (property prices), the kitchen had just about enough as it is only 4 people now in his flat, but the bedroom was seriously low on cupboard or drawer space, and nowhere to put a pop up laundry basket! The double bed also takes up inmho far too much space which could have been better used on cupboard or seating. Not impressed by the architect of that room. But ds likes it and thinks it is plush. 14 msquare including the shower and loo.
Knitting there was plenty of underbed storage though..And I had no underbed storage boxes in hand
Ds then insisted on keeping the manky suitcases under his bed which I thought I was going to be able to bring home on pretext that they didn;t fit anywhere.
I felt very sorry for him when we arrived in the flat, which was empty of every foodstuff, when I watched the other parents trooping by with crates of groceries, which is why I then went to the Coop 10 mins down the road, only to find it was one of those expensive local Coops and didn't even have stock cubes or herbs and spices in cardboard packets, imagine. Or tins of biscuits, double curses. Still it had jeye cloths and flash and basic carbs. And my current fixation, that ds should have UHT milk in his kitchen cupboard for emergencies.
Ds seems to be meeting people outside his flat at the moment rather in his flat, I think the small number makes it rather too intense to want to overdo the introductions at this stage. There is a cluster of three flats on each landing, each with four or five students, so that is probably an easy form of cross fertilisation. He is off to a barbecue tonight.
Many boys (and I hope that is not too sexist) have according to ds brought their X boxes. Oh no. Not the people in his flat though. And ds didn't.
We forgot: dressing gown cord. Soap. Recipes. Jumpers. raincoat. warm trousers. sportswear. Why did it weigh so much I wonder.
