Dd will be home in three weeks for a family wedding. And it's her birthday before that so we plan to visit her for lunch.

Her packing is chaotic and she will leave behind a shit show which I can choose to ignore or sort.

It would have been lovely to have a cosy evening in. As if.

starfleet · 15/09/2018 00:01

DS is also home in a couple of weeks to go to a concert that we are on a guest list for.

He's only going an hour away so I don't know why I'm so ridiculously upset! He'll probably pop in for his tea on a regular basis and to bring his washing...

Nettleskeins · 15/09/2018 00:31

omgoodness it is late...I've been watching telly and creating a cosy evening all by myself..
this is honestly worse than waiting for A level results..
that was actually quite fun, although I didn't admit it at the time..as there was nothing to do except scream and phone people up Hmm
I'd better get my beauty sleep so I don't wake up tomorrow a nagging harridan babbling about corduroy trousers.

Downeyhouse · 15/09/2018 06:02

Good luck to everyone who is dropping off this weekend.

I hope all goes well and your kids are happy and it is not too hard to leave them.

GnomeDePlume · 15/09/2018 07:10

Thank you Downey and for all the other good wishes.

The cat brought in a parting gift for DD2 - a mostly dead rat! So thoughtful!

She didn't get in from her night out until close on 5am. I guess we won't be getting too much conversation from her in the car.

ShanghaiDiva · 15/09/2018 07:14

Ds's girlfriend is leaving today for Sheffield. Ds doesn't need to be at Warwick for another week. I am flying to the UK on Monday for 2.5 weeks - yay!

marmiteloversunite · 15/09/2018 07:18

Good luck everyone for today! Hope it is not too stressful! I'll be waiting at home for you with the Gin! (I have more ice now!)

Bakeandyarn · 15/09/2018 07:24

captainoftheshipwreck · 15/09/2018 07:28

Good luck to all today - chocolate I will need you this time next week! Grin

LoniceraJaponica · 15/09/2018 07:37

Warning - make your DC take lots of alka seltzer/painkillers with them. After yet another night of binge drinking DD's boyfriend has lost his shirt.

marmiteloversunite · 15/09/2018 07:45

Did he put it in a horse???GrinGrin

marmiteloversunite · 15/09/2018 07:45

Grin He was either too drunk and careless or there are some less than honest students in Glasgow.
adrinkofwater · 15/09/2018 08:23

Hope drop off day goes well for everyone today - especially if you're going by train!

UrsulaPandress · 15/09/2018 08:30

Dd got in at 4.30 am. No idea what time she will rise from her pit this morning.

No horse to do. Sob.

TheThirdOfHerName · 15/09/2018 08:54

Good luck to those doing the drop off today.

MsAwesomeDragon · 15/09/2018 09:02

Good luck to all the people dropping off today. Flowers

We've still got 2 weeks before I take DD to uni. Are we the last?

doistayordoigo · 15/09/2018 09:03

Good luck to everyone dropping off today, we have another week yet, but DS still has loads of admin to do. In typical DS fashion he is doing nothing.

2boys My DH is a police officer so if your DS needs to know anything feel free to ask.

raspberryrippleicecream · 15/09/2018 09:05

Good luck to everyone today.

Hope their first week go as well as DD's. She's had a great week, which has involved some but not excessive alcohol.

UrsulaPandress · 15/09/2018 09:15

Why do university term dates differ so much?

raspberryrippleicecream · 15/09/2018 09:27

Suppose Scottish ones are earlier because of Scottish holidays? DD has her first exams before Christmas, and finishes 1st year in the middle of May.

Some have shorter terms.

Some have reading weeks in the middle of term, DS1 still has a ten week term but doesn't start until first week end in October! But doesn't have a reading week.

TheThirdOfHerName · 15/09/2018 09:47

DS1's university is putting on a timetable of welcome events for the first week: matriculation, information fair, Fresher's fair, welcome talks, library talk, societies & clubs fair, sports fair, poster sale, book sale, houseplant sale etc.

His student village is also putting on a timetable of welcome events for the first week: bouncy castles, outdoor cinema, free pizza etc.

The student union website lists a full two weeks of Freshers' events; there is something planned for every evening and weekend afternoons.

DS1 had worked out which things he wanted to go to and which he could fit in. He's also included his admin jobs e.g. registering with the GP, collecting his Fresher's wristband, appointment with student services to arrange his mentoring.

He has now received his timetable from the History department and lectures & seminars start in the first week. 😂 He's not going to have time to be homesick.

2BoysandaCairn · 15/09/2018 10:01

Good Morning,
Sorry I disappeared yesterday, we had a family meal (buffet really), for Ds's uncle and Aunty and gran and a few friends to say bye.
He leaves (we take him) to Lincoln tomorrow, got arrangements, 1300 to 1500, 1 car park, allotted a slot in order of arrival, go to Court, get key & fob, 15 minutes to empty car, he's on top floor, 8 flights of stair and furthest flat from entrance. It will be fun.
Good luck to all going today/tomorrow, I think we may need tissues and Wine and chocolates by Sunday night.
I hope those who are going in October enjoy their time at home.

2BoysandaCairn · 15/09/2018 10:12

Sorry I was rude,
Thanks for all the lovely welcomes, I will tell him Bekabeech, yes Lincoln's lovely and he is very luckily to be going. He said when we visited and looked up at the Cathedral, "Mum and Dad can you believe I get to wake to this every day for 3 years"
I hope I didn't say anything on the unconditional offers threads to upset you, that would be so embarrassing.
Ds only away a week, back next weekend for Ds2 16 b'day..
Sounds like all DC have had the same, condoms, drink&drugs and be safe talks, all Ds1 says now, mum and you have said it all 4 times with a Sad face
I managed to convince DS1 to buy (dad paid) a big bunch of flowers to say thank you to his mum, she cried, not the result I was hoping for!
Have a great weekend
