I think if anyone I know in RL ever read this thread they would immediately recognise me - I've shared far more on here than anywhere else on mn. Must be because I feel so safe with you lovely lot Smile
But agree with Kitten - I wouldn't want a bunch of randoms knowing who I am!

I gave up on the idea of teaching myself to knit/crochet and have made DD a photo blanket to take with her instead, mainly with pics of the dog and cat.
(I say made - that may be over stretching slightly - I uploaded photos to the website and they will print them on a blanket - and that's about the limit of my crafting skills!!Grin)

HesMyLobster · 24/08/2018 16:17

Ha! Ursula cross -post!
We have matching craft ability! Grin

UrsulaPandress · 24/08/2018 16:24

A blanket you say.

Off to google

TheThirdOfHerName · 24/08/2018 16:25

I've ordered a photobook for DS1, with photos of family and the cat. Will probably get him a photo calendar for Christmas.

My grandmother knitted me a blanket when I left for university and I found it v.comforting having it on my bed in halls.

Knittinganewme · 24/08/2018 16:26

My superpower is yarn except for crochet now. I used to make doillies and suchlike when I was younger but I'm doing something wrong now because it hurts the back of my hand.

littledrummergirl · 24/08/2018 16:32

Ds1 is a corner to corner. It's so easy to do, I just hate the middle when you've been going for 45mins and only managed one row!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/08/2018 17:26

I've taken all afternoon to do 3.5 rows. I fear dd may be taking a long comfort scarf with her instead. Confused

I have started so many blankets that have ended up scarves Grin.

dh helpfully informed me that at this rate it's going to take me 400 hours.
Clearly maths runs in the family.

I must confess that I'm looking forward to DD going to uni. We will be an empty nest then but I think it will be nice to try a few new things out and not to be at the beck and call of my DC.

I've joined the ramblers and a book club in anticipation to fill the space and hope to have a few weekends away with DH.

However, with my Ds he did need us to pop and see him and reassure him at the beginning of uni term and I did worry about him - a lot actually. I do expect to worry about DD but hope I won't miss her too much. We realised with DS that they are home as much time as they are at uni in a full calendar year so it's a gentle letting go.

I don't knit - my mum does and she's too good at it!

Bakeandyarn · 24/08/2018 20:10

Secret knitting, I’m in! Ive already made a crochet blanket for DD who won’t be going for three years yet. Not sure that DS would appreciate my efforts In the same way.

I'm sure we've still left people off. Need a spreadsheet.

I feel like an imposter here as DD won't be going to university this year.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/08/2018 23:23

you're really welcome Lonicera, we'd like you to stay, if you would like to, your dd is Class of 18 and you are part of the crew.

OP posts:
HesMyLobster · 24/08/2018 23:40

Of course you are part of the crew Lonicera! We're all still rooting for all the dcs - no matter what their next steps are we want to hear all about it!
Thankyou for the congrats on the internship - she's very chuffed. I was feeling all proud of how grown up she's been this week, then the Dosy bugger managed to miss her train home! then the next one was cancelled, and the next (signal failures!) and she ended up having to work out a very stressful and convoluted journey home, with me on the end of the phone trying to help her figure out how to get back!
Her boyfriend ended up picking her up from one station and driving her to the one she'd left her car at on Monday! ConfusedGrin
So instead of being a 2 hr journey from London it was more like 4!Shock

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 24/08/2018 23:43

I'm going to lurk! And my DS2 didn't even do A levels and isn't going to uni! So there! Wink

HesMyLobster · 24/08/2018 23:48

We are extremely lucky that DD has 3 sets (DHs parents both re-married) of very doting grandparents. DD is the eldest grandchild on all sides, and they were all chomping at the bit to smother her in cards, gifts, cash and hugs last Thursday.
As were all her aunts and uncles. It helps that we all live within a 10 mile radius so have always been very close and involved.

DD2 has had the same this week after her results.

After reading about many of your experiences I will be reminding them both (and myself!) how exceptionally fortunate they are.

HesMyLobster · 24/08/2018 23:50

Ellen don't just lurk! Get stuck right in! We're still rooting for your DS2 too! Smile

PandaG · 24/08/2018 23:52

Thanks for the tag Kitten! Truly lovely day, hour or so at work, brunch with dear friends, lots of flatpack assembly in the new home of more dear friends returning to our city, enjoying spending time with DS who is a flatpack demon, and was really witty and jolly good company all afternoon and evening, now waiting for 16yo DD to get in from a post gcse party.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 24/08/2018 23:57

No grandparents left here. Sad I share my DSs achievements here and a bit on FB.

DS2 has his enrolment letter for college. Lots of info to take with him, passport, student finance stuff, NI number etc. He doesn't enroll until 20th September. Such a long holiday.

UrsulaPandress · 25/08/2018 00:00

Passport 😱
