Hi Champagne, the more the merrier!
Year 13 is definitely a strange time. What's your dc doing/planning?

chocolateworshipper · 04/03/2018 10:17

Welcome Champagne. Everyone on here really is very supportive. Some DCs are off to uni and some aren't, so we'll be here for you no matter what your DC is planning Smile

alittlechampagne · 04/03/2018 12:09

Thank you for welcome. Firm and insurance unis sorted and finance applied for. In middle of mocks - put back because of snow. DS is unusually in a brilliant mood (long may it last!). I'm trying to reach an equilibrium after what seems to have been months of extreme stress. Anybody else facing the prospect of empty nest syndrome in October?? Trying best not to dwell on that yet - so much to go through and it's still a long way off.

Hardwickwhite · 04/03/2018 12:43

DD won't be choosing her firm and insurance till after she's been to the Edinburgh offer holders day in the Easter hols. I think she is also hoping that her friend who is still waiting for an offer from them (EU student, so rationed places I think) gets one too. She'd be much happier knowing someone else there.

Mocks start tomorrow, so it is head down for her. She seems content, which is reassuring.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 04/03/2018 14:11

Hardwick dd is also waiting for Edinburgh offer holders before making her decision. She is getting impatient as she wants it to be decided so that she can concentrate on exams.

alittlechampagne · 04/03/2018 15:02

That pressing the button moment is both exhilarating and terrifying Lobster. I kept checking UCAS page after to make sure DS had not made an error. :)

UrsulaPandress · 04/03/2018 16:38

I feel as if we have gone off the boil here. DD was going to make a decision after the Leeds Offer Holder Day, but that being cancelled then three snow days from school and a delayed mock from last Tuesday when only 2 out of the 7 made it in (that was before the really bad weather arrived) and we all feel a bit in limbo.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/03/2018 17:42

dd will be pressing the button at Easter I think. She's made her choices, but she will get results of her mocks in a couple of weeks, so it's a good idea to wait until after them to check there are no horrid surprises.

Coursework and exams here at the moment, made complicated by snow as I think it has been for many!

I hadn't refreshed so I didn't see your post Ursula.
Silly snow making things all complicated!

Dd doesn't seem to have been inconvenienced by the snow. She's rather enjoyed the 3 days off that she had, and is currently trying to do the 3 days worth of homework she was sent in one day Hmm

Parents evening for DD tomorrow. We'll see whether the teachers share dd's confidence that she's doing plenty of work.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/03/2018 18:41

lol MrsAD! She'd best work efficiently then.

I have had to "encourage" DD to do some work in between sledging sessions/seeing her best friend/seeing her boyfriend/going to see a band.

To be fair she has done, but still needs reminding.

FantasyAndHope · 05/03/2018 10:27

Welcome champagne
Dd is unsure if she should visit Holloway or forget about it, there’s also university of east London to visit who have offered 80 ucas points for her dd is unsure if to visit them

puppypower1 · 05/03/2018 11:08

DS has just finished mocks so the reality of results will come in this week I should think. We have one uni applicant day to do, then decision time in the easter holidays. It's scary

Friends with older DC keep telling me this is the worst year....

chocolateworshipper · 05/03/2018 13:52

DD has now started the last unit of each of her 3 subjects. Eek - it's getting real now isn't it Shock

Littledrummergirl · 05/03/2018 15:11

Hello Champagne.
Ds1 was glad to go back today. He's looking forward to seeing his friends and teachers, he'll be able to join in the conversations about next year.

MsAwesomeDragon · 05/03/2018 19:16

Parents evening went as expected tonight. Chemistry and physics both said she needs to do more revision than just the homework that's set by them. Maths said she's doing very well, can't fault her. FM were making excuses for her when I was disappointed with her mock results, and are confident that she'll do much better in the proper exam because she'll have seen loads of past papers by then. One of her teachers was surprised she was "settling" for the uni she wants just because it's an unconditional offer, while at the same time saying he doesn't actually know the reputation of said uni in computing. I think he's more concerned about his exam results if she relaxes due to the unconditional offer.

derekthe1adyhamster · 05/03/2018 19:52

So much work to be done......
I am really trying to let DS make his own choices, but they are just so young. He has gone to his supervised chemistry prep this evening which is great (if he isn't fibbing to me) he is apparently happier around the house according to his House mistress. Maybe because he hasn't seen his GF for 2 weeks!!!! Sorry bit bitchy.
I saw him yesterday for the first time since our argument and things were fine, but no deep conversations - tbf he's bit like his Dad in that respect. I may have emailed both his tutor and his House mistress to ask them to check on his attendance - he has been missing so many lessons. I also emailed his maths teacher to check how he's doing. He was quite positive. So I am becoming a tiger parent!!
Still no news on his Exeter offer, it's unlikely he'll get the grades anyway, but we can't really finalise anything until it comes through.

Littledrummergirl · 05/03/2018 20:36

Ds1 heard from Notts today. Sadly a rejection. He was a bit down as it was his joint favourite with RVC and was five years instead of six but he can see the positives to the six year course- an extra year of study and to mature before starting the main course. He is also thrilled that it's the RVC so cheered up quite quickly.
He was talking about firming it, I had to get him to wait a while. Grin

LoniceraJaponica · 05/03/2018 22:41

Was that for medicine Littledrummergirl? DD got a rejection early on (no interview), but was offered a choice of other courses.

Littledrummergirl · 05/03/2018 23:10

Vetmed. When ds1 applied there he said that he had read they may offer the gateway if he met the criteria. He's pleased with how things are working out though so we are really positive.

It's good that she has a choice, I keep telling ds1 to wait it out a bit longer, keep options open for as long as possible.

derekthe1adyhamster · 07/03/2018 07:53

So, DS got a C in chemistry, I think he was pleasantly surprised. I too am pleased, is a way off the A he needs but not so far off that he'll give up trying.

Hardwickwhite · 07/03/2018 09:05

Derek given where he was so very recently, that's a great result I think!

DD is on day three of mocks and very quiet again. It is very hard to know when it is ok to worry.

FantasyAndHope · 07/03/2018 09:31

That’s excellent derek

Dd rang in regards to bitchy girls and their moaning because she’s concentrating on her alevels and isn’t bothering with anyone Grin

She finally has a referral to gynaecology but it’s not till May Sad so we have to find some way to manage her periods for exams
