I have made an appointment just to be sure that someone was available. We haven't had any problem with making an appointment and as we were travelling some distance it made sense to ensure that we could do as much as possible when we were there.
I think they are likely to be more thorough if they know that they have time set aside rather than fitting it in among other stuff.

UrsulaPandress · 15/02/2018 14:16

I'm beginning to think that having mocks after the February half term is perhaps not a bad idea.

DD appears to have been putting in a considerable amount of revision and I am hoping that she will be in the mood to carry on once mocks are over.

Littledrummergirl · 15/02/2018 16:27

Thanks Kitten. Not a lot of work going on here as we are just back from mil. Unfortunately I've managed to sprain my knee and come out in an allergy rash so am currently laid up on the sofa bright red, swollen, puffy and in pain. I've had a change of meds today though which seem to be helping.

My boys have managed to get through school unscathed, I think bullying in boys tends to be physical and they are both capable of defending themselves. Ds2 would have been an easy target but his kung fu has given him confidence to hold his ground.

Dd is not a typical girl, straight as a die, tells it like it is. She also does a non typical sport that friends tried to persuade her to drop. Fortunately she was selected for county which gave her an incentive to continue. Girls are definitely more unkind than boys though.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 15/02/2018 16:45

Oh that sounds painful drummer I hope you are better soon.

chocolateworshipper · 15/02/2018 19:03

We are missing quite a few. I'm going to see if the tagging thing works:

I think Lobster said she was going to New York for half term. I suppose a few may be away.

starfleet · 15/02/2018 19:59

Here ✅

Just posted in the old thread but Chocolate has directed me this way.

Littledrummergirl · 15/02/2018 20:15

Thanks Haudin. It's incredibly painful at the moment but I'm sure it will start to get better soon. I think the c25k will have to wait a while though!

Bekabeech · 15/02/2018 20:49

Hi (even though I'm not on the list, but then I was occasional).
DD has mocks after half term. She has done some Maths (and went to the Science museum yesterday - that counts as Geography). She is ill yet again though :(
And we'll see what happens.
She is talking about US Uni again, which was the original plan, and appeal because she could then change direction. But I don't say much...

chocolateworshipper · 15/02/2018 20:59

Welcome back Bekabeech Sorry I missed you but it's good to see you Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2018 21:39

Well done Chocolate!!

Nettleskeins · 15/02/2018 22:22

I found you before I was tagged, but thank you anyway Grin

We have been to two applicant days and one interview, and I am EXHAUSTED. Ds is exhilarated by it all. I asked if he might not consider dropping Glasgow completely from his list if and when they deigned to reply as personally I cannot face accompanying him to an interview from the south of england..but he said he was definitely going to go up if they asked to interview him Shock I think anything is better than revision.

He does seem to learn a little in all these taster lectures, and he enjoys talking to the other candidates, there being very few people in his A level group Hmm It's funny meeting people who have applied to the same unis and wondering if you are going to bump into them next year on a completely different uni course...(than the applicant day uni I mean)

Ds is singing Hamilton as we speak Raspberry our tickets aren't till Dec. Handel not Hamilton, please!!!!!!

MrSlant · 15/02/2018 22:23

I'm here chocolate

MrSlant · 15/02/2018 22:25

I like the tagging thing, we're getting very down with the youf here on MN.

Just had DS2's A level choices evening. They don't get any more interesting do they?

Nettleskeins · 15/02/2018 22:32

I am coming to conclusion that to put a uni down for insurance that you don't care that much for, just because the grades fit is a mistake. Better to have two unis you really like even if grades are very similar, even the same Shock because there is always the chance that one might reduce their grades more than the other in the event that the insurance is needed. The main thing is once you are down in their UCAS bank, they are more likely to consider you with lower grades, and there is always clearing to give you more choice later if they really do NOT want you. But to choose an insurance that is half hearted is selling yourself short, when Clearing is bound to offer the same choice. I am not talking about the Durhams and UCLs of this world more that somewhere like York and Newcastle might easily take you at one less grade than they say they need, so even if both ask for AAB you could put them both as firm and insurance. Even if you have an Oxbridge offer and you think that it is no point putting a RG as your insurance because they ask AAA too, well it might well be the case that they particularily want you if you miss just one grade.

the only difference to this seems to be Birmingham that doesn't take dropped grades if it has previously offered unconditional and you choose conditional offer insurance instead of firming it.

UrsulaPandress · 15/02/2018 22:35

That was dds logic. Put two top choices down as she really doesn't want to go to an 'Insurance' choice.

TheSecondOfHerName · 15/02/2018 22:39

Just had DS2's A level choices evening. They don't get any more interesting do they

DS2 and I both agreed that going would be pointless. He already knows exactly what A-levels he wants to do, and has known for some time. After DS1 took until the November of Y12 to choose his post-16 options, this is a bit of a relief.

Nettleskeins · 15/02/2018 22:43

Ds was telling dh that he liked Glasgow because it was sunny and warm (we went to Open Day in August Hmm) and dh pointed out that if he visited now he might have a distinctly different impression, rather similar to the weather in Hull on a cold rainy Feb Day.

UrsulaPandress · 15/02/2018 22:45

DD commented on how many Southerners were bemoaning the cold in Newcastle. Mind you so was she.

Nettleskeins · 15/02/2018 22:48

mind you even Oxford is freezing and certainly Surrey has given me a chill Smile all those wretched walkways and expanses of parkland for the wind to whistle round..At least I wore thermals when we visited Hull on Sat, in expectation of the worst!

MrSlant · 15/02/2018 22:55

Ursula having grown up on that coastline there is nothing like the icy blast of the north sea coast to make you freeze. It's not like the rest of the UK. Then you spot a true Geordie girl because she is wearing a crop top and skirt like (as my mother would say) a pelmet and no coat to be seen Grin.

TheSecond he's pretty firm on what he wants to do as well but if we don't take him to stuff his brother did it's practically child abuse in his eyes. The persecution of a middle child knows no bounds.

Nettle I totally agree with your logic. To be a known in the system asking for some grace is very different to an unknown from clearing.

UrsulaPandress · 15/02/2018 22:56

Nah. The NE wind is a lazy one. It goes straight through you.

Bekabeech · 15/02/2018 23:07

I agree about the wind, but have to say to me it felt worse in Cambridge than Aberdeen. Maybe Aberdeen was built to protect you from it?

UrsulaPandress · 15/02/2018 23:10

We weren't invited to Cambridge

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2018 23:37

Benson in Oxfordshire often has the coldest night time temps in the UK in the winter.
