Apparently there is a Leavers hoodie (no other info re colour or price given) that can be ordered via the parent's portal.
I hate the parent's portal - it took me months(!) to work out how to log onto it and it insists on a browser that I don't normally use so have to reset various settings on the computer just to access it. Once you have logged in it's not clear how you log out!
dd's A level practical Art exam starts tomorrow. Am I the first on here to have a dc starting A level exams?

Littledrummergirl · 19/04/2018 21:13

We've had the year book, the hoodie and the prom emails. I've to pay for the prom and year book this week.

Ds1 still trying to sort out finance, he doesn't have a passport so has to get his identity verified by a teacher. Due to various problems -he forgot to sign the last form- he is now on form number 3!

He's agreed to let me check this one. Hmm

marmiteloversunite · 19/04/2018 21:45

DD has a yearbook but they are doing polls on who is best at certain things. As it is a girls school it has turned into a popularity contest rather than actually being good at something. Stupid and annoying unless you are in the popular group. Hmm

Nettleskeins · 19/04/2018 22:05

catslife very good luck with dd's practical tomorrow. a beautiful day to inspire her. Does she know the theme already or do they just spring it on them? Probably the latter.

no yearbook at ds's school but we have ordered and paid for the dreaded Leaver's hoody. I never understood ds1's website (in the dark ages), but ds2 who is a different school has a very easy and organised one, you just top up the credit and ping items whenever you fancy maybe that is how they all work, I'm a technical numpty it is designed to fleece parents painlessly..

Ds appeared in a 2014 school trip polo shirt, it was very tight. I see he has broadened out in the shoulder considerably..

doistayordoigo · 20/04/2018 07:30

I've heard nothing about proms, hoodies or yearbooks, which could be because it's an all boys school, or it could be because DS just hasn't told me.

After a conversation about revision (or lack thereof) and his finding maths difficult at the moment, it transpired that it might be because he doesn't have a textbook for one of the maths modules! He has apparently been sharing in class and then has had nothing to revise from at home! Once again, words failed me...it's only £20 or so from Amazon and I can get it delivered next day, for an exam that is in less than a month!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/04/2018 07:54

me either re end of year stuff doistay. Absolutely nada.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/04/2018 07:55

Would you like me to pm you with a couple of maths revision sources?

OP posts:
Nettleskeins · 20/04/2018 08:20

doistay ds is exactly like that, it is very frustrating. they are just so literal about everything. I think it is because some schools have a policy of not charging for textbooks or any expectation of students having the extra money to pay for resources, otherwise you think the teachers would say, go and order your book from Amazon. I suppose it adds up pretty quickly to £200 worth of books, which some people might feel they could NOT afford.

Ds is 18 today. He says he is going to discuss his uni choice with subject teacher, just pray he actually does that and doesn't wriggle out of it. teacher would be gutted if he doesn't ask at least a bit of advice, again there might be some really obvious thing we have overlooked affecting his choice (like what grades he is going to get!!!)

UrsulaPandress · 20/04/2018 12:09

Happy Birthday to your DS Nettles.

A yearbook is being produced for dds year with voting on various categories. A last hurrah for the bitchy bullies.

catslife · 20/04/2018 12:09

So dd is in the Art practical exam today and for various sessions spread our over at least a week.
They do know the topic in advance and have done some prep work in advance but this all has to be done under controlled conditions iyswim so it's all at college.
Nothing has been sent to parents about hoodies etc. our role just seems to be to pay up.
If anyone is looking for advice about A level Chemistry revision then you can pm me for guidance.

TeresasGreen · 20/04/2018 12:14

Happy Birthday Nettle's DS.

DD is going to the pub after school today - it has a lovely big garden on the river, and I am sure will be heaving. It doesn't seem like two minutes ago it was an ice lolly and a splash in the paddling pool rather than a pint of cider!

starfleet · 20/04/2018 12:54

Happy Birthday to your DS Nettles

Happy birthday Nettles DS! Hope DD feels better soon Fantasy.
Still no teacher for one of DS subjects. This has been since Feb half term! I've phoned the college and asked for DS academic coach to ring me next week to discuss. Good news though, his chemistry teacher has started to mark paper done over Easter and has told DS she is seeing a massive improvement! (DS did as a test in one colour pen, then as revision/looking up how to do in another, so at least he'll have an idea of where he's at once he gets it back). He only does 1hr revision on a Friday as full day in college and out in evening, so currently sitting on bed eating a cornetto with fan trained on him watching his iPad and on his phone!

flatmouse · 20/04/2018 16:22

Hope today's Art has gone well for DD @catslife !

chocolateworshipper · 20/04/2018 16:25

Happy birthday to nettles' DS.
Hope today went well cats

We are getting very close to the end of another thread! Has anyone kept count? Surely we must have set some kind of record?

catslife · 20/04/2018 16:49

dd is back. Apparently day one of Art practical exam was "good".
Back to the one word exam descriptions again - familiar to those of us who are still here from Y11 thread!

marmiteloversunite · 20/04/2018 17:30

Oh yes Cats I remember trying to decipher every "good", "ok" and "terrible". Can I just bury my head til the end of August?

HesMyLobster · 20/04/2018 18:34

Happy Birthday to Nettle's DS - beautiful day for it!
Glad to hear the Art exam went well Cats - I think that was the first official A level exam so you've started us off - yikes!

We both finished at lunchtime so I met DD for lunch today - a pub garden in the sun with fruity cider - heavenly! No cider yet for her though, 3 more weeks til she's 18!

chocolateworshipper · 20/04/2018 20:33

"Fine" was my least favourite one-word "descriptor" from Y11

Just meaningless Hmm

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/04/2018 20:37

Good is very good!

Dds leavers hoodie is ordered
Still no decisions made about unis

However, it is clear to see that dd is a entirely different person at home she hasn’t suffered with anxiety in a long time but it seems to be returning. She doesn’t want to attend school anymore and I can only see this issue getting worse

chocolateworshipper · 20/04/2018 22:01

DD has gone out clubbing tonight. What are the chances I'll get any sleep? Not because she'll be waking us up (she got a Premier Inn rom for £39).

Confused
Nettleskeins · 20/04/2018 23:15

fantasy I know people who have taken study leave at this point and just gone back for the exams - would that be a possibility once she has finished her coursework?

We have had a very quiet evening, dh spent lunch talking to a bereaved colleague, and couldn't get back to open presents and cards till late, ds was a bit low about lack of "birthday bash" (I'm leaving this issue till July to deal with) and was I think expecting some fancy clothes (I cannot buy clothes for an 18 year old and get size or taste right - so I promised him I would buy him something he liked, when he located what he liked (ie he has to do the choosing)

Ds2 has kindly offered to take ds1 to a football match tomorrow. Otherwise his present was a Magnum (ice lolly), I gave him three enamel pie dishes - I don't think he appreciated them much although he loves pie.

Cats good oh that word speaks volumes, a sort of steady honest sort of I don't brag but I am quietly confident and I really don't want to discuss it further, because possibly then I might panic...

raspberryrippleicecream · 21/04/2018 08:22

Thread records - I'm on a thread series in another section that started over 6 years ago!

Yesterday was a good day - DD handed in her English and History, which she thinks had to be the final time. So, for better or worse, it's done! She made a decision about her job. She got a tiny bit closer to choices (loved UCL at applicants day this week). And my school was confirmed as continuing outstanding!

Happy Birthday to your DS Nettleskeins. I get it about the celebration, DD doesn't want anything major just now.
