Why don't UK people cook meals like this? Yum!

JulyCompost · 12/10/2025 10:31

I am natively from Brazil living in London now, and I make hubby eggs in morning etc. We add what Uk people call "chip sticks" to our meals, makes it more exciting and delicious! He loves it but says he has never seen it before.

Any other Brazillians on here who can share similar?

I think the replies are because the OP is taking the piss/having some fun, however you want to see it.

If she'd have said oh this is a common thing in Brazil, what do you think/does anyone else do this? then she would have got less flack. I think, I could of course be wrong!

It's the 'why don't British people cook like this', 'it's healthy/I never said it was healthy', and 'potatoes are healthy because Irish people eat them' weirdness.

Got it in one.

Not to mention adding M&S for the 'luxurious high end meal' 🤣😁

PandoraSocks · 12/10/2025 13:20

Hey @JulyCompost did you know you can buy the real thing in Tesco! No need for the M&S unauthentic version 😅

This is a brilliant thread 🤣🤣. You are an absolute gem OP.

Fuck me.

So the OP's been banging on about adding crisps to food for over TWO years? 🤦‍♀️

Trendyname · 12/10/2025 13:04

Sorry op, it doesn’t look yum to me. You should have posted a photo of better looking food if you wanted to tell a whole group of people their food is inferior to yours. I am from India with international palate, so know a bit about food myself too but not sure I would tell any group of people how much better we eat. UK people I know eat a large variety of good food.

Couldn’t agree more!

Shock She's certainly committed to her cause. Are we going to find out she runs a Chipstick manufacturing company?

Lndnmummy · 12/10/2025 13:26

It always makes me laugh when Brits claim to have superior tastes/refinement/grasp of nutrition...

They eat swine for breakfast
serve their children crisps for lunch
And have one of the highest obesity rates and worst tooth decay in Europe

🫣😬

Potatoes are healthy as long as you are not doing a keto or atkins diet, lots of irish peopl;e have them in stews with other vegetables, it's oil which can make a potato bad and the other things people add to them, we grow them at our allotment often

I agree. I said it was crisps that were unhealthy and when posters pointed this out you said that it was healthy because it was potatoes. You’ve defeated your own argument

Moltenpink · 12/10/2025 13:26

I’ve never considered using these as a topping, I’m going to try this now! I imagine they’d be great on things like hot dogs and salad

PandoraSocks · 12/10/2025 13:28

bookstack · 12/10/2025 10:39

That sounds yummy OP, I love crispy crunchy textures on things like eggs, you’ll get a lot of Mumsnet judgement on here but if people are eating fried bread, hash browns or chips with their breakfast, they can hardly judge you for chipsticks on a Sunday breakfast! Hope it’s also covered in hot sauce 😃

Edited

To be fair her post is judgmental, what’s the point of creating a post asking why people in the Uk don’t make breakfast like they do in Brazil. Isn’t it common sense that every culture and country do things differently?

What exactly is she expecting people to tell her in response???

I just read the 'boiled steak' thread.

It was a sight to behold.

Funnywonder · 12/10/2025 13:30

I made a nice meal of chicken, rice and crisps but my husband thinks it's weird.

This is from the other thread linked above. OP was obviously determined to make her husband like this because she’s been serving it to him for two years and he has finally relented and decided to go with the flow🤣

Lndnmummy · 12/10/2025 13:31

TroysMammy · 12/10/2025 13:02

😂 Wotsits? Wotsthat?
Wotsits that's wot?

Well, you lot eat 'chips butties' or 'crisps sandwiches' so I mean, wouldn't be too far a strech.

Planesmistakenforstars · 12/10/2025 13:31

Forget the chipsticks, what in the everloving fuck have you done to those eggs?

Brazil has a very slightly higher obesity rate 🤷‍♂️

But if I went onto a Brazillian parenting forum and asked why they don't make Cornish pasties and Yorkshire puddings like us Brits do, I would expect to be told to get to fuck if I'm honest 👀🤣

HermioneWeasley · 12/10/2025 13:40

YABU for using “yum” and “hubby”

JohnBullshit · 12/10/2025 13:41

You've reminded me, OP, that I still have half a packet of Golden Wonder chip shop curry flavour Chippies (chipsticks) in a cupboard. No way am I adulterating those beauties with any other foodstuff. I may or may not resort to eating them for breakfast one morning.

Delphiniumandlupins · 12/10/2025 13:42

Scrabsqueak · 12/10/2025 13:20

Amazing how Brazilian cookery makes everything look the same by covering your meal in chopsticks.

diddl · 12/10/2025 13:44

if i'm making a more luxurous high end meal as a weekend treat I'll use ones like this from marks and spencers

God love you Op I'm howling.

BunnyLake · 12/10/2025 13:44

JulyCompost · 12/10/2025 10:38

It is healthy because it's basically potatoes though

Is it? What’s in the ingredient list on the packet?

I used to love chipsticks as a kid but I’ve cut out the UPFs now.

If I was to have a splurge I’d probably put a pile of them between two slices of buttered bread. Mmmm

Mothership4two · 12/10/2025 13:46

When OH was prediabetic one of the first things he was told to avoid was potatoes. So not that healthy
