Why don't UK people cook meals like this? Yum!

I am natively from Brazil living in London now, and I make hubby eggs in morning etc. We add what Uk people call "chip sticks" to our meals, makes it more exciting and delicious! He loves it but says he has never seen it before.

Any other Brazillians on here who can share similar?

I wouldn’t eat processed foods on a regular basis whatever their country of origin. These chip sticks were served a lot in Spain and Portugal where we have been these past 2 weeks with croquettas mostly but I’m pretty sure they are bad for you

mamagogo1 · 12/10/2025 10:52

@JulyCompost

with respect it is not a healthy option, they are highly processed, high in fat etc. as a treat one a week ok, not more regularly

These are from a packet you can buy them quite cheap from aldi or lidls, but if i'm making a more luxurous high end meal as a weekend treat I'll use ones like this from marks and spencers

@JulyCompost do you realise that these are basically crisps?

I have no judgement, but they are just crisps.

RightOnTheEdge · 12/10/2025 10:54

My ex is Brazilian and he loved those. He used to say that in Brazil he put those on hotdogs, he was surprised it wasn't a thing in England.

I think the proper Brazilian ones look nicer than the bags of potato sticks we get here though. They look much thinner.

ExploringDreams · 12/10/2025 10:55

I’d love to hear about some of your high end recipes @JulyCompost

arethereanyleftatall · 12/10/2025 10:55

I’m afraid op that adding junk food to a meal isn’t up there on culinary ideas.
of course they’re not remotely healthy, they’re oil and salt.
assume this is a joke.

RegimentalSturgeon · 12/10/2025 10:55

Those you didn’t lose at ‘yum’ you will have lost at ‘hubby’. Unless you are a chicken, you don’t ‘make’ eggs for breakfast, you cook them. And I question just how ‘exciting’ a plate of beige can be. But yes, textural contrast is generally acknowledged to be appetising.
Personally, I landmine my yoghurt.

They are crisps. They’re not basically crisps, they are crisps. Delicious but very very unhealthy.

The crisps were served? From a packet?

Why did you need to be a dick about it?

CameForAVacationStayedForTheRevolution · 12/10/2025 10:57

Egg and crisps for breakfast. Hardly sounds like a culinary masterpiece 🤣🤣🤣

Renamed · 12/10/2025 10:58

Have you tried scampi fries in your porridge

Darragon · 12/10/2025 10:59

1/10. Maybe 2.

MaplePumpkin · 12/10/2025 11:01

Don’t be surprised that people from different countries and cultures cook different kinds of food.

pizzaHeart · 12/10/2025 11:01

To answer your question: people cook what they like. I wouldn’t like a meal like this that’s why I never cooked it.
I just had porridge with banana and apple for breakfast - it’s one of my favorite meals, I actually think that my porridge is exciting and delicious. I cook it regularly.

And I’m not from UK originally.

PurpleChrayn · 12/10/2025 11:02

That looks like something you’d serve at a kids’ party.

Someone had to, and I was free.

Wakeuplittlebunnies · 12/10/2025 11:04

Why would I add crisps to a meal. It’s fried and processed. If it tasted good already you wouldn’t need to add it.

Pallisers · 12/10/2025 11:04

Ferran Adrià the chef from El Buli has a recipe for spanish omelette using crisps.

I'm not going to be all pious and pearl-clutchy about eating crisps. I eat them often. I really don't think they'd be improved by being dumped into a pile of eggs though. Surely they go a bit soft and soggy? Eggs - good. Crisps/chipsticks - good. Eggs mixed with crisps/chipsticks? No thanks.

LadyKenya · 12/10/2025 10:37

Well that is debatable, for sure, about having a better grasp of nutrition.

It was a joke

LaMarschallin · 12/10/2025 11:08

There may be more to it but the picture just looks like dry scrambled eggs and crisps; not really cooking, is it? Still, as long as the hubster likes it.
I'm very impressed about upgrading to M&S snacks for extra luxury though 😁

Glad I checked back before posting - I was going to cite this too.

Ginmonkeyagain · 12/10/2025 11:09

I think breakfast is about the only meal British people wouldn't eat crisps with 😆

We have an Italian friend who thinks it is hilarious to exclaim anytime someone returns from the bar with some crisps to go with their pint - "ahh! English dinner!"
