Why don't UK people cook meals like this? Yum!

I am natively from Brazil living in London now, and I make hubby eggs in morning etc. We add what Uk people call "chip sticks" to our meals, makes it more exciting and delicious! He loves it but says he has never seen it before.

Any other Brazillians on here who can share similar?

I was thinking that I don't really fancy eggs and crisps, but then I remembered that I absolutely love putting ready salted crisps in egg mayo sandwiches so maybe I would like it.

How do you make your eggs @JulyCompost? And what is actually on that plate under all the chip sticks?

Kazziek · 12/10/2025 13:53

You're putting crisps on your eggs for breakfast? Is it normal in Brazil to chuck a bag of crisps into a meal?

Notagain25 · 12/10/2025 13:56

That looks really gross sorry. How can you say it’s healthy because it’s potatoes but you haven’t even freshly made them, it’s just a bag of crisps!

Ooh good spot!

These are from a packet you can buy them quite cheap from aldi or lidls, but if i'm making a more luxurous high end meal as a weekend treat I'll use ones like this from marks and spencers

This is a wind up.

MrMucker · 12/10/2025 14:07

People are being really weird about food.
Chuck some potato sticks on, yeah, sounds pretty tasty to me. I'll probably do more of it. Stop overthinking it into calories and processing and other names for potato. It's crunchy and tasty and not illegal.

Also recommend, hula hoops floating on lentil soup, nom.

The word 'nom' should be illegal! Wink

LBFseBrom · 12/10/2025 14:09

I've never before heard of 'hubby eggs'.

InveterateWineDrinker · 12/10/2025 14:14

You need to add salt cod to make Bacalhau à Brás. That's a proper meal.

Potatoes are healthy as long as you are not doing a keto or atkins diet, lots of irish peopl;e have them in stews with other vegetables, it's oil which can make a potato bad and the other things people add to them, we grow them at our allotment often

Well yes. And these particular crisps are 34% oil and have 2g of salt per serving!

JulyCompost · 12/10/2025 10:38

It is healthy because it's basically potatoes though

Potatoes are jyst starch though and these have been denatured and fried so no, not healthy.

Luckyingame · 12/10/2025 14:35

Because people in Britain prepare food differently.
Yum!
🙄

It's UPF potatoes though. Not healthy potatoes.
I'm not knocking it OP, if this is a native dish in Brazil then it's great that you're making it here.
When I serve eggs for breakfast, I serve them poached, with wholegrain or seeded toast, and slices of avocado, with home made fresh tomato salsa blitzed in the blender. It's delicious. Sets you up for the day, that does!

Bjorkdidit · 12/10/2025 14:46

Those chips aren't actually UPF though, unlike supermarket bread, however seedy

GordonRamsey · 12/10/2025 14:52

We don't have to.
Here in the UK we have Pot Noodles, and when I want to 'big things up' a little for a dinner party, for example, I will add a slice or two of white truffle or a dollop of Beluga cavier to a large Bombay Bad Boy. Yum!

It's basically fat though. Did you do science at school? The thinner the chip the more fatty it will be. You can't seriously think crisps are healthy?

Unicorn34 · 12/10/2025 15:13

We got a bag of thin chip sticks from Lidl or Aldi the other day in one of their "Sol & Mar" collections. Nice as a snack with cheese but I wouldn't put them all over my dinner or class as one of my 5 a day! I do love anything potato though...

BeanQuisine · 12/10/2025 15:19

They're called potato straws in Australia, but I don't know why they sell them because everyone seems to hate them. I don't think I've ever met anyone who doesn't say "yuck" or similar at the mention of them.

Mrswhiskers87 · 12/10/2025 15:56

TeaRoseTallulah · 12/10/2025 10:35

Possibly because we have a better grasp of nutrition? 😂 I can't think of anything worse than dumping crisps on your morning eggs 🤢

The UK is probably one of the unhealthiest developed countries in the world.

So does the OP apparently.

She's been posting about them for at least 2 years! 😁

The UK is probably one of the unhealthiest developed countries in the world.

We have a higher life expectancy and a much lower infant mortality rate than Brazil, which was the country the PP you replied to was talking about.

Bjorkdidit · 12/10/2025 14:46

I bake my own wholegrain or seeded bread. I have a bread maker. It's absolutely not UPF.
(Edited to add - I thoroughly agree that supermarket bread is UPF.)
And yes those crisps are UPF!!! How can you say they're not?!?! They were once a potato!

Mrswhiskers87 · 12/10/2025 16:27

INX · 12/10/2025 16:16

Brazil is a developing country, not a developed one.

Mrswhiskers87 · 12/10/2025 16:27

Yes, this is why I pointed out that Brazil was the country the PP was talking about rather than a developed country, so I'm not sure why it was being compared to developed ones.
