Why don't UK people cook meals like this? Yum!

I am natively from Brazil living in London now, and I make hubby eggs in morning etc. We add what Uk people call "chip sticks" to our meals, makes it more exciting and delicious! He loves it but says he has never seen it before.

Any other Brazillians on here who can share similar?

Looks revolting

Moochingallday · 12/10/2025 11:50

Have you tried the tomato sauce chips sticks - very moorish, but as much oil and salt as they are processed potato.

Velvian · 12/10/2025 11:53

Is this the first recorded incident of someone telling British people they don't eat enough crisps? 🔍

MorningFresh · 12/10/2025 11:54

I like those with a G&T. 😋

Terfedout · 12/10/2025 11:56

🤮, that's why.

It is healthy because it's basically potatoes though

That made me laugh out loud!

Sez1990 · 12/10/2025 11:57

Well tbh I don’t have time to make eggs or really cook anything in the morning. But why do Brazilian people put crisps in their breakfast instead of frying real potatoes?

This feels like a good time to talk about walking tacos. Make some chilli and eat a portion served in a bag of Doritos

Edited

Crisps, meat, veg, melted plastic… what’s not to love! 😄

BadgernTheGarden · 12/10/2025 12:06

From the title I was expecting a fantastic home cooked meal, not basically egg and chips which is a really common British meal. I would prefer unsalted 'chip sticks' or French fries all the salt in ready salted is a bit much. I like softly fried eggs with nice big proper chips (freshly made from potatoes) to dunk in the yolk myself.

Eaten on a regular basis these are anything but healthy OP. They contain high amounts of salt and fat. As a treat occasionally, yes, but not added regularly to meals.

Hmmmmmm………deep fried though! So perhaps NOT quite as healthy as you might think.

Toofficeornot · 12/10/2025 12:11

We have hash browns. Or bubble and squeak. On a breakfast if you want potato.
I see you have not fully enjoyed a full english breakfast.

ChocolateBoxCottage · 12/10/2025 12:12

😅 yes definitely "just potato" there's nothing else on the ingredients list on the back.

Definitely swopping out my kids fruit and fibre for this. Shame it's more expensive though isn't it? Anything to cut down on the fat and salt is a good thing. Go for it!

I might do it for Sunday lunch with currey sauce on the top

Was instantly reminded of Homer Simpson: "There was purple in my doughnut! Purple is a fruit!".

They're salt with a little bit of potato added. And a load of UPF chemical crap.

We spent our summer holiday this year in Brazil. Pala-pala on everything was wonderful, we love them! M&S chip sticks are not a patch on the ones you get in Portugal or Brazil though, imo. Not fine enough and too greasy.

ThisBadTimeIsTakingForever · 12/10/2025 12:14

The ‘traffic light’ nutritional labels are red and amber, this shows they are definitely NOT healthy op, regardless of them being potato.

Yeah, but it’s not just 🤮 It’s M&S 🤮

SpiceGhoul · 12/10/2025 12:17

I love these especially the beef flavoured ones. Wouldn't have them with eggs though but have had them served to me by a Brazilian fried on top of her Brazilian stroganoff, it was lovely!

Marks and spencers is a high end grocery store here in the UK, the top one next to Waitrose, it's real - they have the best care for animals and highest quality of produce available. We shop there sometimes when we want luxury items like Xmas time basically. Also othe rpeople have backed me up it's a real meal in portugal/brazil, don'tw ant to argue with you just saying!

I arrived to this thread too late for today's breakfast, but next Sunday's breakfast is sorted. Egg and crisps for a high end Brazilian breakfast never before cooked by a British person for as yet unknown reasons (I discount the nutrition theory).

TrifleSprinkles · 12/10/2025 12:17

TeaRoseTallulah · 12/10/2025 10:35

Possibly because we have a better grasp of nutrition? 😂 I can't think of anything worse than dumping crisps on your morning eggs 🤢

Walk up your city centre any day of the week and that is quite obviously untrue.

HelpMeGetThrough · 12/10/2025 12:19

OP, M&S is just average shite in a shop, very much like the MN favourite Waitrose.

MzHz · 12/10/2025 12:20

I used to live in Brazil and the only time I recall having these was on a (sublime) beef stroganoff from Rodeo restaurant in SP.

its not common, certainly wasn’t in the late 80s.

i dare say UPFs have devastated Brazilian diets in the same way it has ours :( when I was there very few people were out of shape or overweight
