John Major's chicken recipe

Long shot.

In the early 90's a magazine, possibly Good Housekeeping, published an article where the leaders of the 3 main political parties of the time, provided them with a recipe. John Major (con) provided a Chicken dish which was chicken fillets with a Tabasco heavy sauce. John Smith (lab) was a salmon thing, and I cant remember what Paddy Ashdown (Lib) was.

Anyhoo, the John Major recipe was brilliant, and I've never replicated it. It would have been published at some point between summer 92 and spring 94, as that was the period where John Smith was both alive, and the leader of the Labour Party.

Anyone got the John Major recipe? If so, please take a photo and post it.

Cheers,

Mabel

I’ve had success with finding an old recipe that I originally cut out of a Sainsbury’s magazine and subsequently lost.
I contacted the magazine and they sent me a file with the recipe.

That only works if you can remember the magazine!

(I’m assuming you’ve Googled it?)

FightingFatAt49 · 22/02/2023 09:06

I've tried googling it and the only relevant result is this thread.
Are you sure it was John Major @MabelCirup ?

Results come up for his recipe for gingerbread men, but nothing else that I can see.

Just put lots of peas in it . Sorted .

HappyHolidai · 22/02/2023 09:11

I suppose you could write to John Major. 😀

Great idea!

I was wondering if you may have been confused and were remembering a recipe for Curried eggs?

BasilParsley · 22/02/2023 09:31

There's this article from the Independent published in 1995 where John Major gave his gingerbread but Archbishop Desmond Tutu gave a recipe for chicken tabasco sauce. Is this the one you were thinking of?

Thanks, it's not it, but that's interesting nonetheless. Might give Des' chicken a run out.

I just hope the curry wasn't full of salmonella

PacificallyRequested · 24/02/2023 21:48

That reminds me, I must dig out Alex Salmond's flapjack recipe.
Not even joking, all the Scottish party leaders had their biscuit recipes published in a paper in the run up to the 2003 Scottish Parliament election!

mumda · 28/02/2023 23:47

Manchester evening news did a cashew nut chicken recipe back in the, early nineties. Almost certainly on a Thursday as that's the only one I bought for the jobs.
It lived on my fridge door for about ten years and was used regularly. Can I remember the recipe now though? No.

AdoraBell · 28/02/2023 23:51

🤣🤣 at -just put loads of peas in it.

Hope you find the recipe OP

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 28/02/2023 23:56

Write to him - or, I suppose these days it might be possible to 'tweet' him - and ask.

He was a crap Prime Minister but he talked a lot of sense as part of the Remain campaign. I'd trust his chicken recipe.

Edwina Currie's novel 'A Parliamentary Affair' reads a lot more interestingly when you know she's on about John Major Grin

This is the most unexpected thing I’ve read on the internet in AGES 😂

How little did we know eh 😄

AIBU to wonder whether ADT nicked John Major’s Tabasco Chicken idea? The timing is suspicious.

Mrs T’a coffee mousse looks quite nice.

Has anyone seen Nick Griffin's cookery show? If not look it up on YouTube. It's the most horrifically hilarious thing I've seen in quite some time. Disclaimer - I am about as far from being a BNP fan as you can get!

Hi,
I have this recipe if you still want it!! Let me know.

I'm making it this evening. Mexican chicken. - tabasco, lemon juice, Tom ketchup, onions etc. There's actually a typo in the article on the tabasco quantities.

😁

coxesorangepippin · 01/01/2024 16:18

I have no idea but following closely, as this could end up being a Classics thread

HappyAsASandboy · 01/01/2024 16:21

@Alphabetty1980 please post it!

I had the Nigel Lawson Diet cookery book containing various club staples reworked for slimmers. Less Jam Roly, More Polo Poly - that sort of thing.
