John Major's chicken recipe

Long shot.

In the early 90's a magazine, possibly Good Housekeeping, published an article where the leaders of the 3 main political parties of the time, provided them with a recipe. John Major (con) provided a Chicken dish which was chicken fillets with a Tabasco heavy sauce. John Smith (lab) was a salmon thing, and I cant remember what Paddy Ashdown (Lib) was.

Anyhoo, the John Major recipe was brilliant, and I've never replicated it. It would have been published at some point between summer 92 and spring 94, as that was the period where John Smith was both alive, and the leader of the Labour Party.

Anyone got the John Major recipe? If so, please take a photo and post it.

The recipe seems to be from an article on some kind of Diet. And I don’t see John Major mentioned? I quite like the sound of the tuna fish pie recipe under the Mexican chicken one.

Yeah but as Nick Griffen says in his amazing cookery video upthread: We have a Mexican restaurant here and it isn't swamped with Mexicans. Just take the recipe and job done.😆

Hahaha @Lotrehin sadly no ... he's from South West England. They went on a residential Y6 school trip to London, went to Downing Street and had to write about the P.M. He had a family member who was a civil servant who got the recipie for his research..... Don't worry he is a fully functioning, fairly normal, not crazed John Major fan now!... he is quite excited he has made a mumsnet thread though.

I’ve just made this, with the odd tweak (didn’t add the chilli as one dd isn’t keen on anything too hot, added a couple of peppers) and it was shockingly easy and delicious. So much so it’s even found its way into my very scruffy book of hand written recipes.

So thank you @MabelCirup for starting this thread, and those who posted the actual recipe.

Of course vinegar goes on chips first! It helps the salt to stick to the chips and is the correct way. It boggles my brain that it was a revelation to you 🤣

Please send me the recipe for John major's mexican chicken. I remember lots of tomato sauce, Tabasco, Worcester sauce. Chicken in flour and paprika and pepper.

I am so glad I happened to come across this thread. Back in the 90’s, I also had a chicken recipe which I ripped out from The Sun newspaper but have since lost it. I have kept looking for it online but the recipe I have been looking for was called ….. wait for it …….
Norma Major’s Chilli chicken.

It can’t be a fluke can it, as from memory this would appear to be the same recipe. Everyone loved it. It was even cooked in a certain Supermarket’s Head Office staff dining room and everyone loved it.
