Pancakes - Anyone one else have them with gravy?

Growing up we always had gravy. Never sweet things such as lemon, sugar, chocolate, syrup.

Dds think I'm crazy and just want chocolate, syrup, strawberries etc.

That sounds vile!

sorry….

SoupDragon · 21/02/2023 12:33

I mean, it's not really that much different to gravy on a Yorkshire pud but, but...

...no. It's just not normal.

😂

BetterArf · 21/02/2023 12:34

I’ve never heard of this abomination! Is it a regional thing?

I grew up with lemon & sugar. Syrup and Nutella were later introduced. But gravy?!

DogInATent · 21/02/2023 12:34

It's not that unusual. Pancakes, fish batter, Yorkshire pudding, toad-in-the-hole... same batter, sometimes sweet and sometimes savoury, cooked a little differently but that's all.

GCITC · 21/02/2023 12:35

Pancakes with stew is the only acceptable option

DogInATent · 21/02/2023 12:35

Pancakes as the layers in a lasagne is lovely...

BetterArf · 21/02/2023 12:45

Pancake lasagne and pancake stew sound worse than with gravy 🤢

louise5754 · 21/02/2023 12:47

Oh I love it. Not sure why we had it. Maybe my grandma made it for my mum 😂😂.

My mum makes them with gravy, mincemeat and mushrooms. Basically the bottom bit of a shepherd's pie!

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 21/02/2023 13:17

It's unconventional but there's no real reason for it not to work.

I'll be having mine with Aldi torchon ham, mushroom and swiss cheese though.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 21/02/2023 13:18

What have I just read?

cunderthunt1 · 21/02/2023 13:20

Yabu

TomatoSandwiches · 21/02/2023 13:21

Yorkshire puds with gravy yes.... Pancakes, absolutely not.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/02/2023 13:27

That's grim...

Bigpinktrain · 21/02/2023 13:28

Oo
yeah I can see this working

ToffeeNotCoffee · 21/02/2023 13:36

I worked with someone, albeit they were from, oop North who did this. Every year she remarked she had gravy on her pancakes. Every year she would get stunned silence by way of response !

Her view was that the batter was/is the same as Yorkshire pudding batter.

I prefer lemon and sugar on my pancake.

I've yet to have a casserole served in a big Yorkshire pudding. That day will come hopefully.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 21/02/2023 13:42

Always with some sort of meat in gravy! It's just a flat yorkshire! We usually do minced beef in a rich gravy but tonight it's chicken casserole.

Disclaimer: there will be sweet pancake options for dessert.

That's what I'm making next Sunday 😜

MaverickSnoopy · 21/02/2023 13:44

We make Dutch pancakes which have savoury toppings, but not gravy. Step too far for me. Conversely Nigella once did Yorkshire pudding with whipped double cream and golden syrup 😋

Tonight's pancakes will be Dutch, lemon and sugar, nutella, biscoff and honey. Yum!

MrsApplepants · 21/02/2023 13:49

Gravy with anything is disgusting.

Fleur405 · 21/02/2023 13:50

If someone gave me pancakes with gravy on pancake day (or any other day for that matter) I would take it as notification that they considered me their mortal enemy.

🤢

You need to put yourself on the naughty step for this remark 😜

TheOldLadyOfThreadneedleStreet · 21/02/2023 14:24

at school (and i'm getting older, this was early 1980s) we made sweet and savoury pancakes in home economics. the savoury ones were a mince mixture, basically like the bottom half of a shepherd's pie, which we spread on the pancakes, rolled up , sprinkled with cheese, melted under a grill and served up. so gravy sounds ok to me! They were really tasty as I remember. we did some sort of orange sauce for the sweet ones.

AndTheSurveySays · 21/02/2023 14:28

Pancakes with mashed potato and gravy is heaven.

louise5754 · 21/02/2023 14:28

I can't believe people find it so strange.
