Pancakes - Anyone one else have them with gravy?

Growing up we always had gravy. Never sweet things such as lemon, sugar, chocolate, syrup.

Dds think I'm crazy and just want chocolate, syrup, strawberries etc.

I like pancakes with savoury fillings like minced beef or lamb from the Sunday roast in thick gravy.

😋😋

My mum wrapped them round sausages, poured tinned tomatoes and cheese on and cooked in oven. Super yum!

CC4712 · 21/02/2023 21:38

I've had thin crepes with savoury fillings- but would never think to just have gravy on a pancake! I know it's the same batter as Yorkshire puddings, but prefer my pancakes/ crepes to be sweet.

CC4712 · 21/02/2023 21:40

Out of interest, what is pancake lasagne and spaghetti? Surely it takes even longer to make pancakes from scratch than to just use pre made lasagne sheets???

Phos · 21/02/2023 21:42

All the people saying it's disgusting. Do you have lemon and sugar on your Yorkshire puddings then? No? Then shut up.

Make bolognese and then layer it straight onto plate using pancakes instead of pasta. Cuts out the putting it in the oven stage. Much quicker!

It's not my pic I got it from Google.

Oh oops sorry!

PatientlyWaiting21 · 21/02/2023 22:06

Is this a wind up? 😂

Topseyt123 · 21/02/2023 22:10

It is obligatory to eat pancakes with either Nutella or with lemon juice and sugar. Accessorise them with lashings of squirty cream.

Absolutely no gravy!! At all. There is a law against it.

Cut out an additional stage and put it straight in the bin. Savoury pancakes sound disgusting in themselves but to start adding them to lasagne? Are you my mum? She just puts random stuff together on a plate with no sense of what goes together.

Goingtobee · 21/02/2023 22:13

Nick Knowles was saying this on the One Show this evening; that he has them with gravy. Two course affair here, savoury (chicken and mushroom this year) followed by a sweet one for pud.

MrsApplepants · 21/02/2023 22:54

Each to their own but I maintain my earlier comment. Gravy is gross. Salty brown slop.

No but then I don't have gravy on them either.

Don't knock it till you've tried it. It's lush 😋

Completely normal - my grandma used to make a pancake instead of a Yorkshire pudding for Sunday Dinner. Went on the plate first - with everything else on top (including proper gravy) - it was then eaten last once it had soaked up everything. Northerners though obviously.

You're making it wrong.

adamsaboutnothing · 22/02/2023 08:00

Yorkshire lass here and it's gravy all the way for me. This morning my DD has announced we have to eat "Hash" for tea tonight as its Hash Wednesday Grin so tonight there will be hash and pancakes!

No, I don't have anything on my yorkshire puddings because why would you?

All these people eating soggy yorkshire tasting of gravy!

henrilechat · 22/02/2023 09:30

Yes, absolutely. Not just gravy, but beef too. My grandma always made them like this for us as kids and it's still what I have now. I make the pancakes fairly thick. Then a sweet pancake for afters!
I'm obviously Yorkshire born and bred.

I can't believe there's people on this thread completely freaking out about this but think it's completely fine to eat a dry Yorkshire pudding 😮

If you don't like gravy, you clearly making it wrong, it's the food of the gods!

Phos · 22/02/2023 09:48

Hang on, do people really have their Yorkshire puddings dry with nothing on them?! 😵

Im glad I live in Yorkshire.

HoldingTheDoor · 22/02/2023 09:58

It's all disgusting, home made or not. Even if I could understand the appeal I don't get why people want to drown everything in it. A trickle perhaps but why smother everything in it so that it all tastes the same?

HoldingTheDoor · 22/02/2023 10:00

Other condiments are available, mint or apple sauce for example, though really I'm not that much of a fan of Yorkshire puddings and only eat roast dinners about 4x a year, including Christmas.

Ohifyouinsist · 22/02/2023 10:13

So much outrage over a batter mix Grin

I can see that pancakes and gravy might work, but allow me to blow your mind by saying that we sometimes have Yorkshire puddings cooked with plums or rhubarb, or (when we're feeling especially wild) served with golden syrup and vanilla ice cream.

Of course we eat them dry. We eat a roast dinner with nice crisp roast potatoes and nice crisp yorkshire pudding. We are not babies so do not need to eat mushy food. Nor do we want to taste only gravy.

Do people really not like the taste of food so they have to drown it in gravy?
