Growing up we always had gravy. Never sweet things such as lemon, sugar, chocolate, syrup.

Dds think I'm crazy and just want chocolate, syrup, strawberries etc.

( Scottish pancakes) ^

This is genius. Going to try it.

Usual fillings either HP sauce, beans or cheese and coleslaw.

I’m not sure why people find it strange either. It’s literally Yorkshire pudding mix, nothing grim or nasty about it. Plus I have manners and would never yuk someone else’s yum.

Personally lemon and sugar is my fave.

"Manners" 😂😂

there is a huge difference between threads like this, which are lighthearted, and saying "yuk" in person.

Are you from Yorkshire, OP. Gravy at every occasion is giving Yorkshire vibes.

'Nay lass, thou don't want biscoff and new fangled t'marshmallows! thou wants good honest t'gravy'

(Apols to Yorkshire)

Dalekjastninerels · 21/02/2023 14:37

Never would I ever consider gravy on pancakes.

Sugar and lemon in my house growing up.

Yep I am. I don't like chips and gravy like most.

I’ve had fried chicken, a waffle, and gravy and it was the food of the gods. Served at a restaurant owned by a family with a long history of making that style of food. I have also had pale imitations attempt to replicate the authentic version and it was disgusting.

Newnamenewme23 · 21/02/2023 14:45

My gran always had leftover yorkshire puddings with syrup.

just to flip (see what I did there 😂) the issue.

ImprobablePuffin · 21/02/2023 14:51

DH is from Yorkshire and would probably love this. I however, have questions.

Are they thin pancakes?
If so do they not disintegrate into the gravy?
Or are they a bit thicker like American pancakes that absorb the gravy?

Ljmh2022 · 21/02/2023 14:55

Yes I have gravy on mine too! I think its definitely a northern/Yorkshire thing.

Grew up having gravy with pancakes On pancake day because like PP have said its the same as Yorkshire pudding batter really.

My boyfriend is disgusted at the thought of this though and is sticking with the more traditional lemon and sugar tonight!

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 21/02/2023 14:59

We had Yorkshire pudding with golden syrup and a scoop of vanilla ice cream when I was young! Delicious

FlashDash · 21/02/2023 15:03

No completely normal, I have pancake spaghetti.

This thread is the Twilight Zone of pancake toppings.

I grew up on lemon and sugar and now I have 1 lemon and sugar and 1 Nutella and strawberries 😍 no to gravy 🤮

Roundandnour · 21/02/2023 15:14

As someone else mentioned pancake lasagne. It’s really nice. Have done it quite a few times over the years when strapped for time and kids needed feeding. Also done them on none pancake day.

im from Yorkshire and would have corned beef hash with pancakes as a kid and lemon or jam after.

Around 4-5mm. No they don't dissolve into the gravy.

Yeah I used to have them at my Nana and Grandads swimming in gorgeous homemade meaty gravy. Bloody delicious!! Don't bother now though cos I can't make gravy for shit and bisto just doesn't have the same appeal

louise5754 · 21/02/2023 15:25

Examples below.

I don't mean the small really thick breakfast pancakes if that makes any difference?

If you fry them right then no they don't dissolve into the gravy, just like a Yorkshire pud wouldn't. Honestly try it, pancakes and gravy are amazing.

mydogisthebest · 21/02/2023 15:58

Gravy is disgusting and those pictures actually make me feel sick.

I really can't understand the obsession (usually Northerners) for gravy on everything.

I never ever eat gravy unless it is a stew. For me, it belongs on nothing as it just makes everything soggy and just taste of gravy. Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, chips etc should be crisp not made soggy like baby food. Thankfully DH is in full agreement and also never eats gravy

Do people that love gravy so much not like the actual taste of foods?

louise5754 · 21/02/2023 16:28

Do you have examples of what is eaten with gravy that shouldn't be?
