OK now that I have permission from Lou and in order to preserve the good MNers from MM's charlatan WW recipe I am ready to spil the beans

Only it will have to come in installments, I have to take the kids to sign up with the HV so watch this space.

Where is it?????? ARGH. I clicked thinking I was about to get it and my joyous mood was shattered. Will have to go back to eating too many choc McVites sandwiched together with Nutella.

SoupDragon · 30/09/2004 08:14

I need to know the ingredients before I go to Waitrose!

Miaou · 30/09/2004 08:19

Suzy, you're keeping us in suspenders!!!!!

suzywong · 30/09/2004 08:19

OK OK I have a haitus while Thomas the you know what is on ...
Ingredients are:
150g butter
150g chocolate, at least half of it should be plain
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
175g caster sugar
100g plain flour
1 big tablespoon of drinking chocolate
And a scant quarter of a teaspoon of salt
100g walnuts

you will also need a 7 inch square baking tin and some baking parchment to line it with

gotta go

bundle · 30/09/2004 08:22

hee hee

suzywong · 30/09/2004 08:42

actually an 8 inch square tin works too. Anyway line it with the parchment and set the oven to 180 degrees C or gas mark 4 or 350 degrees F and I wouldn't know what to suggest for an aga but you want a moderate oven.

Oh no DS2 has made a diaper deposit BRB

OP posts:
bundle · 30/09/2004 08:44

..and when do you whip the buggers out of the oven? is that the crucial bit?

suzywong · 30/09/2004 08:57

wait wait wait here comes the method:

To make 9 generous or 12 small portions

melt the 150g butter and the 150g chocolate (at least half of which should be plain) on a low heat in a small pan and let it melt together and leave it to cool slightly

Then beat together in a bowl
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
175g caster sugar
Until creamy looking, use a hand whisk or an electric one

Then sift in
100g plain flour
1 big tablespoon of drinking chocolate
a scant quarter of a teaspoon of salt

Throw in 100g walnuts
And the chocolate and butter and mix well with a spatula, but don't beat it. It should be smooth and glossy.

and I'm afraid I'm going to need a lot more chatting to and general cameradery before I reveal the biggest secret . I'll be back on here in 3 hours, having started on the wine so if you could all pretend to be a bit tipsy too and tell me ....oh, what's going on in Eastenders, the gossip that I miss during the night and I would be much obliged.

You didn't think I would give up the goods without getting as much attention as possible did you?

I have to say that I'm quite excited about these now after having read about their legend. This of course is not helped by a sickly 4 year old who is off nursery today and the oly reason why I can't go to the shops .

SoupDragon · 30/09/2004 10:46

bumbumbum. I forgot to get plain chocolate!

suzywong · 30/09/2004 10:58

use cocoa powder instead of drinking chocolate soupy

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 30/09/2004 11:01

But I've only got milk chocolate - you can't possibly make brownies with anything other than plain! It's just wrong!

suzywong · 30/09/2004 11:02

well yes it is but I didn't want to kick you when you were down

OP posts:
melsy · 30/09/2004 11:04

whats the big secret to these amazing borwnies. I may have to stop my chocolate ban for these !!!!

Hi soupy , gonna bake me some then huh ??!!!

SoupDragon · 30/09/2004 11:05

I'll have to go to pick DS2 up from nursery via the newsagent...

I assume it doesn't matter if I leave the walnuts out? Can't stand them and never cook with nuts anyway.

SoupDragon · 30/09/2004 11:06

Melsy, you have to collect them before I eat them all though. Even Essbee didn't manage to collect her ginger cookie on time and she's only 10 mins away
