Butterscotch Angel Delight!

I'm obviously having some sort of sentimental moment, and took an urge for it. I might even make it in a plastic jug á la my DMum circa 1988.

I bet it's not as nice as I remember

Angel delight makes great cheesecake.

CMOTDibbler · 05/02/2017 20:21

Bobbin, it def doesn't work with almond milk though I haven't tried soy milk.

FishlessCake · 05/02/2017 20:56

My mother makes 'Black Forest trifle'. It is chocolate Swiss roll, topped with a tin of Tesco black cherry pie filling, chocolate Angel delight, dream topping or whipped cream then topped with FOUR crushed flakes. I'm vegan now so can't have it but it was the best desert ever Grin

MollyHuaCha · 06/02/2017 09:23

Bobbin, if you were trying to avoid dairy, the dry mix almost certainly contains cows milk.

When I was a kid in charge of Sunday dessert I came up with this, a large glass with crushed digestives at the bottom, some tinned rice pudding, banana, angel delight, whipped cream then sprinkles.

Best thing ever.

I loooovee angel delight, has to be either butterscotch or chocolate, it makes a really nice cheesecake topping if you make it a bit thicker than usual. I buy double of the chocolate one, because I like a pack to myself, and my kids don't like the butterscotch one Grin.. I honestly don't think I can name my favourite dessert ( there are so many ) but it would probably be some sort of cheesecake, I will be off to buy some angel delight today now lol.

OP, can you get this put in the Recipe section please as there are too many great ideas to just lose in 90 days! Pleeeeaaaase!!

morningconstitutional2017 · 06/02/2017 11:46

I still love Dream Topping, sometimes all by itself, sometimes with chopped pears. Plus a good trifle is hard to beat.

HyacinthsBucket · 06/02/2017 12:51

It doesn't thicken with soya milk, it just gets runnier and runnier. I did actually nearly cry.

RiversrunWoodville · 06/02/2017 12:58

My wee nanny made posh afters for a Sunday treat (also Northern Ireland) Grin we had Angel Flan (which was basically cheesecake in one of those dishes with the crinkly side) with digestive biscuit base and angel delight on top and it really was food of the gods when I was wee

Anything Black Forest [child of late 70s]

SpongebobRoundPants · 06/02/2017 13:47

At Easter we used to break a chocolate egg in half and fill it with angel delightGrin

Craigie · 06/02/2017 14:24

We still eat this regularly, with chopped up bananas.

Motherfuckers · 06/02/2017 14:36

Easter egg as the bowl? Twix as the spoon? You people are actual geniuses. My childhood was shit in comparison!

KurriKurri · 06/02/2017 14:39

I remember when Angel delight first came out - there was also a similar thing called instant whip, but that was not a nice - it was slimier and not as creamy.

Angel delight and tinned fruit was a real treat dessert for us (my Parents grew a lot of fruits in the garden and for most of the summer we were subjected to stewed gooseberries - knees up to the chest sour and full of pips)

Butterscotch is my favourite AD with chopped banana, or strawberry and tinned peaches.

Ok I'm going to have to go out and buy some now. Grin

justgivemethepinot · 06/02/2017 14:43

I HAVE ONE IN MY CUPBOARD!!

Timetogrowup2016 · 06/02/2017 16:08

Banoffee pie,
Best dessert ever.

Serenitymummy · 06/02/2017 16:11

DS family make 'chocolate trifle' with angel delight - line a dish with slices of chocolate Swiss roll, then top with a butterscotch angel delight, then a chocolate one, then whipped cream and crushed flake. Nothing like a trifle but evil and delicious!

BaronessBomburst · 06/02/2017 16:19

DM used to make a pear and chocolate trifle.
Chocolate Swiss roll, tinned pears (and enough juice to make the sponge soggy), topped with chocolate Angel Delight. There was something about the tinned pears and chocolate together that made it taste like it had booze in it.

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 06/02/2017 16:24

We used to have Instant Whip as a special treat for "Afters". I think Angel Delight was more expensive. If we were really lucky we'd get Dream Topping to put on top.

On a really good day the main course would be Findus Crispy Pancakes. Bliss.

deblet · 06/02/2017 17:41

This thread is making me laugh. I am a p/t sensory panellist and we had to do a project on Angel Delight last year. We all requested the butterscotch one and we tried it every day for a week. Best week of the job so far. We all said it was the favourite flavour and from this thread we seem to be right.

ShamonMoFo · 06/02/2017 18:21

Tutti Frutti Gino Genelli... noms! I miss that shizzle

theonlygeorgie · 06/02/2017 18:59

OH and I had some last month for the first time in 20 years!! We introduced our 4 year old to it Grin

KurriKurri · 06/02/2017 19:05

I am jealous of your job Deblet (although I guess you sometimes have to try things that are not so nice ? )
