Butterscotch Angel Delight!

I'm obviously having some sort of sentimental moment, and took an urge for it. I might even make it in a plastic jug á la my DMum circa 1988.

I bet it's not as nice as I remember

last time I bought angel delight I bought the chocolate one and the butterscotch one, and layered them up in wine glasses, like it was the 1970s

Had bits of flake on top too, the children were very impressed.

ShatnersBassoon · 05/02/2017 16:18

Mmm, Dream Topping. It was that lovely synthetic cream stuff.

naffedoff · 05/02/2017 16:18

Making the butterscotch Angel Delight was my 'job' when preparing Sunday lunch. I think my mum realised that whisking powder and milk with a rotary hand whisk in a plastic jug was probably the peak of my culinary capabilities.

Oh my god, butterscotch Angel delight is divine. With chocolate buttons on top. Reading this thread makes me want to swap our apple pie for angel delight this evening!

flushingfreda · 05/02/2017 16:26

My mum used to make this. Chocolate Swiss roll sliced and laid in the bottom of a dish.Next cover with chocolate angel delight and then finished with whipped double cream. Sprinkled with grated chocolate it was divine.

MollyHuaCha · 05/02/2017 16:31

Angel delight, a blast from the past...didn't know it was still made! But I wd never call it dessert. It's a pudding, surely?

WutheringFrights · 05/02/2017 16:42

Butterscotch using Maryland cookies as the spoon.... Just saying...

StillaChocoholic · 05/02/2017 16:56

Ah man, I've got chocolate flavour and strawberry flavour in the cupboard. DH doesn't like it (weirdo) but DS and I love it.
Really wanting to make both packs up now so I can half and half, which I know DS will love, but probably a bit much for a 3 year old 😄

Borntoflyinfirst · 05/02/2017 16:58

Yes dingit! Def with chopped up banana in it!!

LoveMyLittleSuperhero · 05/02/2017 17:03

IHaveBrilloHair is a genius, seriously try it with baileys in it's delish! Also, put a chocolate brownie in bottom of the bowl, top with whipped cream and grated chocolate. (has to be the butterscotch one)
Disgustingly unhealthy, delicious enough that I don't careGrin

ChuncaMunca · 05/02/2017 17:09

I've got a packet of that in my cupboard! Pretty sure it's butterscotch. And I have milk.

Hmmm, might have to dig it out.

greendiary · 05/02/2017 17:11

We had this last week. Sadly it didn't taste the same..... :(

CaoNiMa · 05/02/2017 17:13

WTF! When I saw this thread title I thought "I bet it's butterscotch angel delight" and it IS! Dessert-psychic.

ChuncaMunca · 05/02/2017 17:21

I can't resist...

Guess what I bought for dessert...
ChuncaMunca · 05/02/2017 17:26

However, the adjective "fluffy" has never really been a selling point in a dessert before.

dingit · 05/02/2017 17:30

My mum still makes trifle with dream topping on top. Dh is horrified Grin

Was out shopping today, and saw a young girl (19-25 ish) begging, on our return an hour later she was still there, she was shivering, there was a bitter wind. I really felt for her and she really pulled at my heart strings when she asked for money. I went out of my way to the nearest supermarket , my aim was to get something hot for her, they only had a hot cheese toastie, a large bag of crisps, a drink, packet of biscuits and a pot of fruit.it all came to over £5. As I walked back towards her, she started shaking her head, saying she didn't want the food just money, I asked her again, did she want what was in the bag? She said she didn't, as I turn on my tail I said I hope you realised you've just turned down 20 quid! My daughter who had been watching from afar said" how ungrateful " WDYT
At least the kids enjoyed the crisps and biscuits I wouldn't normal buy!

PollytheDolly · 05/02/2017 17:31

My aunt used to give me a bowl of butterscotch Angel Delight and, instead of a spoon, a Twix to eat it with 😍. She was a wonderful woman.

Oh.my.god. Your aunt is a gift from god.

dingit · 05/02/2017 17:31

In fact, her 'trifle' is often jelly, angle delight and dream topping. Only nice when she makes it.

ChuncaMunca · 05/02/2017 17:31

Okay I made my cup of tea, Midsomer Murders is on, and I'm waiting for the Delight to firm up. 3 minutes down, 2 to go!

ErrolTheDragon · 05/02/2017 17:35

Angel delight was for best, most of the time we got Instant Whip.

StarlingMurderation · 05/02/2017 17:35

My mum used to make strawberry jellies in individual glass dishes, half full. Then, once it had cooled and set, she'd top it with strawberry Angel Delight. Back in the fridge for half an hour, then the best dessert ever!

loveliesbleeding1 · 05/02/2017 17:39

BUNMUMyes! I also remember the banana crunch, really synthetic tasting, but lovely all the same.

haveacupoftea · 05/02/2017 17:41

Ooh this is putting me in the mood for a good old fashioned dessert. My favourite is rice pudding but I haven't got any cream in Sad

AshesandDust · 05/02/2017 17:46

I'm writing these recipes down..Twix spoon is inspired and Delight trifle..and crushed biscuits underneath...mmm.
I realise now that I've led a very sheltered life. Grin
