Can't believe I've never tried this before! It's lovely and doesn't taste dairy free (it's the creamy garlic and herb). What vegan foods do you all love Smile

Oooh fishless that's one delish looking Brownie
I made banana muffins today.couldn't work out how post a photo and then damn kids ate them all before I even got oneSad

FishlessCake · 13/02/2017 15:54

You will have to make some more Grin I've been making bread every day but the problem is I could eat the whole lot.

I looked in the large tesco today and morrisons but no quorn fishless fingers Sad. So I bought some more bean pate (so addictive) and a beef style joint from Holland and Barrett.

Is bean pate kinda like hummus, and what a beef style joint made of?(intrigued)

FishlessCake · 13/02/2017 18:03

The pate is by vbites it comes in the fridge in a sausage shape Confused. Consistency is nothing like houmous. When I next spread some (which will likely be later Wink I will take a photo, it's lovely). As for the beef joint well that's also by vbites and I dread to think what it's made of but having never tasted beef I think it's good Blush. I will get a photo of it...

Here we go

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/02/2017 18:13

Oooh
Similar ingredients to Linda McCartney sausages til they change to soy proteins and we liked them a lot

FishlessCake · 13/02/2017 19:48

Have you tried any of the vbites roasts @stilllivinginazoo? My favourite is the gammon, it's so good with parsley sauce, mash and carrots Grin.

Didn't even know it existed!!I went my local sainsbo and couldn't find the oatly creme fraiche.or cream cheese with herbs.very disappointed

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/02/2017 20:07

Did get cashew milk though.nice.lil zoo(my youngest who 9) knocked ut back gleefully. Pity it's not unsweetened...

FishlessCake · 13/02/2017 20:31

Cashew milk is my favourite, it's very creamy. Are your whole family vegan? It's just me that's vegan but everyone else is vegetarian.

Vbites are brilliant, far cheaper to order from them direct than Holland and Barrett. You can buy the sage sliced vbites meat for £1.30 in morrisons and the same packet is nearly £3 in Holland and Barrett!

We only use nut milks though and dairy free spread but the children eat lots of eggs (which I get locally). But the plan is to get our own pet hens so I feel better about the children eating eggs.

I made my monthly whole foods order today and put big bags of soybeans, cashews and almonds on it to play with making milks/cheeses etc :) just realised I forgot to add oats though! Annoying but easy enough to pick up cheaply anyway.

I made a cheesy sauce based on potato & carrot yesterday, there's loads of recipes on YouTube. It worked really well served hot as a fresh sauce, impressively cheesy (I was generous with the nooch!) I then added agar agar to the rest of it to set it into a firm cheese - less successful. DP said it was like cold mashed potato - I hadn't told him it was based on potato Confused so clearly not massively cheese-like! It's edible, just had some on crackers for dinner as a kind of spread. But the search continues for the perfect vegan firm cheese recipe.

FishlessCake · 13/02/2017 20:45

Oh wow Phoenix I'm impressed! Can you post photos, would love to see. I've got a vitamix (impulse buy from a shopping channel and have never used it in 3 years Blush). I really should make my own nut butters.

marigold braised tofu. It comes in a tin and is in layers . Have it as part of a vegan roast dinner.

FishlessCake · 13/02/2017 21:19

Ooh I saw that in h&b today but I'm not a tofu fan (it tastes too soft Confused). What's the marigold tofu like?

I regularly order from vbites, our favourites are the celebration roast (turkey, pigs in blankets and gravy sachet but we haven't actually used the gravy) meatballs, burgers and bacon

Oh and a recent find from them was a squirty cream! Not their brand, but they sell a few sweet items that they don't make

FishlessCake · 13/02/2017 22:41

Squirty cream Shock what's it like?

fishless dd2 been vegetarian 5years this easter(gave up meat one year for lent and never went back, taking fish out directlyafter on strict understanding would have to ear EVERYTHING I gave her.she eats all pulses, eggs, cheese, nuts and seeds(eldest sis anaphylactic with peanuts so we give those a miss!)D's suffers low weight probs and aneamia so he eats some meat(couple times a week has ham, meatballs or mince)his tummy not good with quorn or much soy. Lil zoo has dairy allergy, hence our vegan interests. They all love bean burgers, risottos with nut butters added at the end instead cheese, couscous with roasted veggies and nuts/seeds.dd2 doesn't eat meat etc as has full on love affair with pigs.when she realised eat ham was dead pig that's what spur her to stop eating it.I admit I'd be but scared her follow vegan diet whilst growing as I not sure where to get all vitamins etc from,I spend good couple weeks carefully plan her diet when switch to veggie(lots raised eyebrows and we still have comments that think kids can't grow properly without meat (from people whose kids eat burgers, sausages and fast food and minimum vegetables)

TellMeItsNotTrue · 13/02/2017 22:48

There wasn't really a flavour to it, which is good because there was nothing to dislike! I had meringues, squirty cream and fruit for the first time ever and it was delicious! I'm going to try trifle next

TellMeItsNotTrue · 13/02/2017 22:49

Meringues were made with chickpea water stuff BTW, by a friend of a friend who is vegan and my friend mentioned me so she made extra next time she made them Smile

FishlessCake · 14/02/2017 06:32

I'm going to have to try the meringues, been hearing so much about chickpea water.
@stilllivinginazoo I get comments all the time about my children and their health but only once they know they are vegetarian. One of my sons (almost 10) has suspected copd so he does eat fish and also is allergic to hazelnuts. But my younger two children are the healthiest children you could meet. Have never had antibiotics, hardly ever get colds etc and are very tall. My 6yr old has the thickest hair down to the back of her knees and my 4yr old is as tall as an average 6-7yr old. My children have all gradually become vegetarian with no pressure from me. My daughter was 4 and my youngest since 3.

I've bought the mock duck in a tin, I'm a little scared to open it and to try it. What's it best eaten with and should I fry it?

economymode · 15/02/2017 19:51

I made toad in the hole with chickpea juice the other night. It was actually not bad! I don't miss many foods but do get all jealous when my husband and kids have toad in the hole! I still have some leftover so may try meringues and make some sort of rocky road with the kids.

economymode · 15/02/2017 19:55

Also made some brownies yesterday as a vague Valentine's day gesture. Used the Jamie Oliver vegan recipe and they are great. Nice and gooey. Chocoholic husband approved.

FishlessCake · 15/02/2017 20:18

Interested in the toad in a hole, tesco had chickpeas for 25p a can so I've grabbed 4 cans to try out some recipes Smile. I also got the vbites marjoram sausages to try. They were £1 cheaper than my favourite tofurkey polish ones and had 8 in a pack which is twice as many.
I'm making a baked bean pie with them tomorrow! Caramelise onions first, then add the beans, lots of salt and pepper and big spoon of vegan spread and marmite. Reduce it down cook sausages and chop them up and add. Mash potatoes (I usually do this with vitalite and a dash of soya cream). Make some pastry line a dish, beans and sausage on the bottom then mash add a pastry top and bake. It is the tastiest comfort food ever
