I ate 6 slices of malt loaf slathered with butter yesterday

puff · 16/03/2006 15:06

Tesco has low GI written on one of it's pitta bread packs - think it may be the wholemeal one

georginarf · 16/03/2006 15:06

can you see me now

nailpolish · 16/03/2006 15:06

whats the alternative?

Twiglett · 16/03/2006 15:06

so let me get this straight

if I give up bread I'll lose weight .. just bread right?

madmarchhare · 16/03/2006 15:06

Never - 4 slices with lurpak already today.

WideWebWitch · 16/03/2006 15:07

I would DEF lose loads of weight if I gave up bread and wine.

puff · 16/03/2006 15:07

You should notice a difference twiglett

Enid, you'll be delivering a malt loaf instead of a baby at this rate Grin

desperateSCOUSEwife · 16/03/2006 15:07

bread and bread products make you fat

Twiglett · 16/03/2006 15:08

are we allowed crispbread .. like ryvita??

georginarf · 16/03/2006 15:08

seriously, will this work? No bread?

I might be able to do it.

misdee · 16/03/2006 15:08

ok then Sad

i reallyneed help. am useless at losing weight.

NotQuiteCockney · 16/03/2006 15:10

I don't do white bread, and try to have proper (e.g. sourdough, stoneground, non-industrial) bread when I can get it.

Wouldn't dropping all white carbs be wiser?

Enid · 16/03/2006 15:11

I know

but the consultant told me I hadnt put on much weight Grin so I took that as a blessing to eat what the f I liked

desperateSCOUSEwife · 16/03/2006 15:11

multi grain ryvita contains 6.7g of carb pr slice
a white slice of warburtons contains 17.7g of carb

puddle · 16/03/2006 15:12

Pitta is 2 or 2.5 ww points
Granary bread 1 or 1.5 a slice

I really limit it now.

Twiglett · 16/03/2006 15:12

what's with the carb count? is this gi then .. not interested in gi

misdee · 16/03/2006 15:13

i am just interested in weight loss twiglett. how u going?

desperateSCOUSEwife · 16/03/2006 15:14

twiglett I dont like gi neither
dh did this last year and lost a stone in a week but he started looking ill and he was missing his cans of lager LOL

I just cut down on all the carbs, like bread, pasta and rice.

puff · 16/03/2006 15:56

lol Enid

I don't count anything much on my GI Diet and I eat plenty of carbs, but what's been nicknamed "smart" carbs ie those that keep your blood sugar stable and stop you wanting to stick your head in a breadbin and reach for the butter Grin

carbs I eat a lot:

porridge oats, lentils (all colours), pearl barley, chickpeas, beans (haricot etc) new potatoes (not old - they have a higher GI value), basmati rice (sometimes) (lower GI than regular rice)

The only things I "count" are portion sizes for rice and potatoes

You can have bread on GI, but not white bread, but I don't bother because if I start I don't stop

I've replaced bread with oatcakes and sometimes rye crispbreads

has worked for me - hurrah
