By coincidence I've ditched toast for breakfast this week -used to love granary toast with marmalade EVERY morning.
Instead I've had porridge with a few chopped dates and walnuts in -can definately recommend it.
Go on...if I can do it, you can. Smile

Have drastically cut down on bread (on WWW's 10 years younger plan!) and definitely feel les bloated. Have been substituting with No-No crackers which are delicious and also the Dr Karg spelt and rye ones. The Burgen bread (soya and linseed) is absolutely delicious if you do feel the urge for a slice and it stays fresh for ages.

DH made breakfast today and gave me a toasted hot cross bun - I can feel my stomach groaning at trying to digest it.

yoyo · 17/03/2006 09:38

less not les

jerry21 · 17/03/2006 09:59

Does wholemeal soda bread count - thats supposed to be low in carbs, and its luuurvly!! Grin

TinyGang · 17/03/2006 10:03

Yuk! Malt loaf..gah!! Dh and children love it though.

me23 · 17/03/2006 10:28

Are oyu all just cutting down on bread or carbs in general? I'm on a diet atm and always read about people losing weight but not eating strachy food after 5pm etc.. would like to cut down I'm veggie so what could I use as alternative to carbs that will still be filling or are those low carb pasta rice etc any good?

toastmuncher · 17/03/2006 10:39

HELP! Toast craving!!!!!

georginarf · 17/03/2006 10:41

OK, I had no bread yesterday - and spent most of the evening being sick as well as feeling utterly dreadful today

now this could be the famed D&V bug but frankly I blame this thread. When I can face eating again, what the hell am I going to have if not a couple of pieces of toast, the ultimate getting over sickness first meal?

cod · 17/03/2006 10:42

Who says bread makes you fat? Evidence please.

Greensleeves · 17/03/2006 10:58

I lost four stone in just over a year - gave up gluten/dairy products/fat/sugar/salt/caffeine, and became really anal about additives etc. Also introduced moderate exercise - it worked brilliantly. Don't know how big a part of it was the giving up bread.

Twiglett · 17/03/2006 11:52

I bet you were a miserable scrote though gs

Nightynight · 17/03/2006 11:52

hear hear Jan.
Bread is a staple part of my weight control diet.

chuck out the cheese, the chocolate, the biccies, the butter, the low fat spread, the sausage rolls, the cakes, the sugared coffee, the full fat milk, the salad dressing, more than one potato, more than a tablespoon of rice.....leave the bread, with a scraping of jamGrin

bluejelly · 17/03/2006 11:57

Not eating bread and loads of carbs makes you feel so much more energetic in the afternoon, you don't get that blood sugar crash sluggish feeling...
I've lost half a stone since xmas by cutting down on bread ( now only eat it once or twice a week)
Seriously it works

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2006 12:00

LOL Twiglett.

Looks like all the more for me and Malory :)

cod · 17/03/2006 12:17

Yes.. it was grim and joyless chez Greensleeves, I'm afraid! I did gorge myself on crap and put nearly a stone on over Christmas, though, and am now attempting rather half-heartedly to recreate the regime... threads about biscuits Do Not Help!!Grin

GDG · 17/03/2006 12:19

sorry, i'm a carboholic

Clary · 17/03/2006 12:22

OK cod have just seen this. Will start now.
Have just gorged a hot cross bun not good.
It's true that if I stop bread I feel better and thinner.
Is pasta allowed??

toastmuncher · 17/03/2006 12:24

about to have lunch - just not sure what to have! (STILL no bread..... ive been good!)

Nightynight · 17/03/2006 12:25

Look, I lost POUNDS last weekend, my trousers were visibly looser on Monday, and all I ate the whole weekend was hot cross b**y buns! with no butter, and I scarcely sat down all weekend, so must have burned loads of calories. Would have died without the buns!
