It's one of the worst films I've ever seen.

I've not seen the stage show.

All the characters are horrible & one dimensional. Even the green one - she's the most likeable & developed character & they still managed to make her flat & boring.

They threw all the CGI possible at it and it left me feeling very empty. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Glinda is awful. Absolutely awful but we are meant to like her cause of all the rich blond & pink. Dreadful.

The costumes were fabulous though gotta hand them that. Probably an Oscar for costumes.

I feel empty & sad after seeing that film.

My daughters loved it. They now think I'm the worst.

I loved it but I’ve not seen the stage show or anything and I didn’t know the story. I thought the actress who played Elphaba was amazing.

ladygindiva · 22/11/2024 23:06

I've just watched it and couldn't disagree more. Absolutely loved it and thought the two lead actresses were fantastic.

Sethera · 22/11/2024 23:08

Realistically, it was never going to live up to the ridiculous levels of hype surrounding it.

The more a film is hyped, the less substance there usually is behind it.

Stopsnowing · 22/11/2024 23:08

Hated the stage show.

AmICrazyToEvenBother · 22/11/2024 23:09

I can't comment on the film as I've only seen the show, but:

No, you're not. You're supposed to think she's ridiculous and vacuous. The people who go to the university are mostly supposed to be the social elite who go for status rather than an education.

I can't believe they've released half a film though. Not going on that basis alone!

MoonlightMedicine · 22/11/2024 23:10

Loved the stage show, loved the film.

familyissues12345 · 22/11/2024 23:11

Going tomorrow, can't wait!

JumpingPumpkin · 22/11/2024 23:13

Went to see point break tonight instead of Wicked. Sounds like a better choice.

RobinEllacotStrike · 22/11/2024 23:16

I didn't know the story either. Was really looking forward to it.

Glinda is a nightmare. She only started being nice to Elphaba to gain access to the sorceress. Me me me me me.

The animal subplot just abandoned. I guess that will be developed more in Pt2 but I won't be going. Where is the goat? What about the lion cub?

The boyfriend irredeemably shallow.

All the students were awful.

The choreography was pretty good. Though I'm not a fan of the music.

Wicked can get in the bin with Les miserables.

I thought the stage show was a bit meh.
Loved the film!
You are supposed to dislike Glinda... she is a representation of the elitism in their society.

Coffeetacoscheese · 22/11/2024 23:17

You’re not supposed to like Glinda! She’s a brilliant character in the stage show and I hope the film does her character justice.

Aw hey now I was vaguely on board with your posts and then you started on Les Mis, the second greatest musical ever

RobinEllacotStrike · 22/11/2024 23:17

Ah well I do dislike Glinda. But my daughters LOVE her.

Ug.

Oh my gosh we went to see it tonight and all absolutely LOVED it!!! 10/10!!!!
I loved the show too!!

scoutingfortwirls · 22/11/2024 23:19

I don't think you've understood it properly OP Grin

AgathaMystery · 22/11/2024 23:19

I thought the stage show was absolutely awful. I was desperate for it to end!

RobinEllacotStrike · 22/11/2024 23:20

Les Mis - a whole load of grief caused by ridiculous pride. I would have left at interval but I saw it with my boss so I was trapped.

Worst trip to the theatre ever 😂😂🙏🏼

I don't think we're meant to like G(a)linda. She's played almost as a pantomime villain, with occasional hints at the possibility of redemption slipped in along the way. I enjoyed the film a lot, especially towards the end when the pace started to pick up.

Galinda with a Ga! I can’t wait to see it!

TidyDancer · 22/11/2024 23:22

The west end musical is exceptionally good. I've seen it with more than one cast and it's never disappointed me. I'm going to see the film this weekend but preparing myself to be underwhelmed because I can't see how it can live up to the stage version.

The cinema was packed but no response at the end. Everyone was very quiet.

Who / what are we meant to be interested in? What characters are we meant to care about? Apart from the goat. 🐐

What is it about “releasing only half” ???

Littlemissgobby · 22/11/2024 23:28

Not seen the film but I went to see wicked first time this year on the stage and I was blown away I was crying. It's so amazing the music is good and the story is sad in a way to.
As for the blonde witch yes she's a bitch to begin with that's the point then you see it all come together in the end. I don't think.it will make sense in 2 parts not sure why you would break the film up like that unless it's about making loads of money gor them
