It's one of the worst films I've ever seen.

I've not seen the stage show.

All the characters are horrible & one dimensional. Even the green one - she's the most likeable & developed character & they still managed to make her flat & boring.

They threw all the CGI possible at it and it left me feeling very empty. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Glinda is awful. Absolutely awful but we are meant to like her cause of all the rich blond & pink. Dreadful.

The costumes were fabulous though gotta hand them that. Probably an Oscar for costumes.

I feel empty & sad after seeing that film.

My daughters loved it. They now think I'm the worst.

I'm sorry but this really made me laugh 😂

I haven't seen the film and opened the thread in the full knowledge there might be spoilers on here!

Isatis · 23/11/2024 10:00

Hmm, I've never had any wish to see the musical - what I've heard of the music doesn't grab me, and I'm not enticed by a sub-Wizard of Oz storyline.

But now you've equated it to Les Mis I'm thinking I've got it wrong all these years, as Les Mis is of course excellent.

This is more of a spoiler tbh! Asking a question based on what's she's seen so far, versus demanding it's deleted Hmm

Needmorelego · 23/11/2024 10:03

@RobinEllacotStrike by the way I never actually said which one of your posts is the plot spoiler so hopefully those who don't know the story it hasn't been spoiled.

Needmorelego · 23/11/2024 10:03

@Phase2 how do you know which post I am referring to though......

Mozzarellaballs · 23/11/2024 10:04

Not planning on watching it. I hate that screeching WOAH OH OHHHH bit in the song!

Needmorelego · 23/11/2024 10:07

@RobinEllacotStrike and everyone else....
ok I have reported my post that pointed out I have reported the plot spoiler which might have made it worse.
If everyone else reports it too it will hopefully go away.
(my post I mean....not the OPs)
Thanks

Does it matter which post though?

A thread about a film has a high chance that it may contain spoilers

Just like a thread about a Tele programme as well

Phase2 · 23/11/2024 10:08

@Needmorelego this is very complicated for a Saturday morning! Hopefully we could just ask for a spoiler alert and then people could enjoy discussing it 😀 very nice of you though x

Gymmum82 · 23/11/2024 10:10

Going to watch it today. I LOVE the stage show. One of my favourites, but I also love Les Mis too. Hoping it’s as good as everyone says.
Expecting to be bawling from start to finish

Needmorelego · 23/11/2024 10:13

@Phase2 ..... yeah. I was a bit over enthusiastic 😁
Anyway......I liked the film.

RobinEllacotStrike · 23/11/2024 10:14

Needmorelego · 23/11/2024 09:43

@RobinEllacotStrike because it was a bit of a sneaky comment in my opinion.
Anyway Mumsnet will decide whether or not to delete.

If I don't know the story, haven't read the book or the screen show, and have only seen Part 1 of the film, how can asking a question about the film in a thread about the film, by someone who has seen the film, be a "sneaky" plot spoiler.

That's really a mean comment.

Whatever.

There was so much foreshadowing from the opening scenes & throughout the film (& YOU confirmed the answer to my question by the way) so it's pretty much a no brainer that Xx is the D*y.

It's a discussion for people who have seen the film. In the "film" section on Mumsnet

I thought it was amazing. I absolutely loved it.

purpleme12 · 23/11/2024 10:19

Exactly

It's like on the Tele section. Everyone takes it as read that there'll be spoilers

Jabtastic · 23/11/2024 10:21

I remember being totally underwhelmed and disappointed with the stage show so I probably won't bother with the film version!

AmICrazyToEvenBother · 23/11/2024 10:22

ImNunTheWiser · 23/11/2024 08:40

No, I agree, the film was appalling .Russell Crowe murdering my favourite song (that should only, ever, be sung by Philip Quast) was so upsetting.

Aw, I'm with you there! Russel Crowe brayed through that song! What a travesty!

Philip Quast though 😍 I was lucky enough to see him as Peron in the London Evita revival.

I haven't seen it but I have seen the promotional video and stills.

I'm concerned it shows Ariana Grande, who is a mature 31 year old woman, as a tiny child-like doll figure.

My dd is in recovery from an eating disorder and when she saw the stills, she said mum, why does she look like that, you can see her ribs? I feel very sorry for AG as she went through the trauma of the bombing at her concert and she is clearly a talented person, I just feel uncomfortable with her new 'uncanny valley' presentation being presented as if it is entirely normal for 31 year old women to have large heads, tiny childish bodies and this all to be achieved-how?

Needmorelego · 23/11/2024 10:29

@RobinEllacotStrike I apologise for my comment to you.
The way you worded it just seemed a bit sneaky and if I was wrong then it was genuine that I was wrong.
As I said - you can report my post and it will hopefully go away.
I have reported myself 🙂
Sorry again 💚🩷

More drama on this thread than in the show 😁 I saw it years ago and remembered feeling underwhelmed and I didn’t realise a nearly three hour film is only half the story. I do like Ariana Grande so if I have a spare afternoon between now and Xmas (hahahaha) then I might go and see. I was thinking of taking dd (7/8 depending on when we went) would she like it do you think?

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 23/11/2024 10:41

As someone with a lifelong eating disorder, I won’t be going to watch it due to the promotion of eating disorders to young girls. They are both clearly ill, particularly Ariana and whoever is in charge should stop rolling them out in pink and green dresses everyday for promotional opportunities and get them some treatment!

AmICrazyToEvenBother · 23/11/2024 10:44

Ariana Grande looks so ill at the moment. I'm not usually one to say that and I prefer to run on the slender side myself, but it's uncomfortable to see.

I think your 7/8 year old will love it!

I took my nearly 7 y/o to see the show in London & we both loved it & she was obsessed with it for about a year afterwards. If I had a pound for every clip of Popular or Defying Gravity she showed me from YouTube I'd be very rich indeed!
