New Top Gun is finally out next month, so long overdue, I'm hoping it won't disappoint! 🤞

I sorta hoped for a Just Married sign on the back of his small plane at the end!

Ha! I think that would have been too cheesy, even for Top Gun!

RorschachPest · 10/06/2022 17:16

I assumed the appearance in dress whites, and then the whispering in the ear was because he was proposing - but maybe not, because she'd gone off on holiday when he came back?

But come on, the dress whites. I would have proposed to him at that point.

The whole film basically took me right back to my adolescence - the only time I was reminded I was 48, not 13, was when I felt more anxious about the helmet-less motorbike riding than the fighter jet aerobatics.

I had the best dream about TC last night, thanks to this thread! We were filming a dance movie, and he and I had our arms round each other, face to face, and danced round in a circle and then levitated in each other’s arms. I kept asking ‘how is this happening’ and he whispered ‘magic’. It was bloody brilliant 😊 (and a sign of my age probably that I wasn’t shagging him)

Mogloveseggs · 10/06/2022 21:02

Been this afternoon. Absolutely bloody brilliant film best I've seen in years! Can't wait to go again!

OneFrenchEgg · 10/06/2022 21:03

I hated the whites. It was just really cringey whereas the rest was cheesy.

Is the bike thing a cultural issue? Are Americans more likely to see it as normal not to wear one? Am just thinking of the end of Ewan McGregor's long way round documentary, when they rode into New York at the end they were accompanied by loads of bikers and I'm sure hardly any of them were wearing helmets.

Yes - in most US states, helmets aren't compulsory for adults (only 19 states have this) - in most they are only compulsory up until 17-20 or so, with a handful having no law at all. Only around two thirds of riders regularly wear them.

Went last week with a friend from original TG era. Totally brilliant.
Tom Cruise might be a scientology twat, but bloody hell he knows what he is good at!
Loved Penny. Loved the other nods to the first one. Almost cried again when Goose died.
Just fucking loved it all. Could have been 17 again 😍

Redcrayons · 11/06/2022 20:00

I was a teenager when the first one came out so this was a proper nostalgia fest for me.

I really enjoyed it. It was pretty much the same film and kind of cheesy but in a good way.

i did laugh at 50 something Tom Cruise out running a 20 something super fit fighter pilot in the beach scene.

As weird as he might be, TC knows how to make a good movie.

I went to see this last weekend and now I’m utterly obsessed with Tom Cruise and watching all his other films, I hadn’t realised I’ve actually seen so few of them. I’ve always known he was an objectively attractive guy of course but older Tom is absolutely beautiful. I’ve also been watching some bits and pieces on youtube and the guy actually has a really good sense of humour which only intensifies my middle aged crush 🤣

The film itself was awesome, a perfect sequel. At the end my friend asked if I’d been crying at one point and I said to him are you joking, I cried about 40 times 😂

aylis · 12/06/2022 16:11

@Maydaysoonenough a friend and I had a bunch of Welsh rugby fans sing it to us in a pub in Ireland once, I’ve never forgotten it!

Sidge · 17/06/2022 16:08

Finally saw this last night and bloody loved it!

It ticked all the boxes, and TC has aged well. I know he’s as mad as a box of frogs but he’s damned good at what he does.

Apparently that’s his own plane he flies with Penny at the end.

I didn’t like the Penny character, she was trying so hard to be all mysterious, alluring and flirtatious and it just didn’t work for me.

Absolutely blown away by the flying though, and laughed quite a bit too.

DrDinosaur · 19/06/2022 21:17

I don’t generally like Tom Cruise or action movies, but saw this today with DS and DH and it was ABSOLUTELY FUCKING BRILLIANT!!
Just fantastic entertainment, well worth seeing in the cinema. I cried at the Val Kilmer bits.

Cocopogo · 19/06/2022 21:19

Very disappointed that Val Kilmer didn’t get a bigger bit and it was the Tom Cruise show. Could have been so much better

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 19/06/2022 21:22

Well in fairness, Val Kilmer is very unwell and can barely speak. I thought considering that his part was very well done.

Top Gun 2 was always going to be the Tom Cruise show!
