New Top Gun is finally out next month, so long overdue, I'm hoping it won't disappoint! 🤞

OP posts:
Jet2021 · 25/05/2022 21:01

Oh I am SO looking forward to tomorrow!🙂

Mumsnut · 25/05/2022 22:07

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG
It was mega.

SlightlyGeordieJohn · 25/05/2022 22:15

Should I go over the plot in great detail, now for those who haven’t yet had a chance to see it?

Oblomov22 · 25/05/2022 22:45

OMG
OMG
It was fucking great.
When with two friends on a Wednesday night - School night. it was just absolutely fabulous. we all loved it.

dicdicnurse · 25/05/2022 22:52

Absolutely awesome! I'm so glad I wasn't disappointed after all that waiting. It was loyal to what it needed to be, cheesy enough to make me smile, emotional enough to make me tear up and 100% everything I hoped it would be!!!!
Ps I had 3 gin and tonics whilst watching 😂

Aposterhasnoname · 25/05/2022 22:58

Just got back from watching this. Thought the first half hour or so was a bit cheesy, but once it got going, Wow! Loved it.

scruffanddodge · 25/05/2022 23:02

I'm just home. That was fucking AWESOME. Worth waiting 2 years. I'm absolutely buzzing after it and don't know how I will sleep.

Oblomov22 · 26/05/2022 06:14

So did I @dicdicnurse! Grin

So the storyline. The funny thing is I can't remember. And I just don't care. Just because, I just don't care. It had me gripped from the beginning. I thought there was as enough flying and g force to be exciting. The new live interest penny was nice. I thought the amount of cheesiness was just right. His boss went to visit him on the beach for the volleyball. My favourite bit was when he came back after being dismissed and flew it in under 2 1/2 minutes. I liked seeing Val Kilmer, who I already knew couldn't participate much because of his RL throat cancer, but there were regular References to him and clips of his pictures etc which I thought was just enough.

I'm not sure they handled the rooster story quite correctly I think they could've developed it a lot more and there are lots of opportunities where I thought they should've said something more to eachother particularly at the end.

I also guessed before that Hangman was clearly going to save them but I couldn't quite grasp why he wasn't on the mission, yes he was too cocky, but he was the best, with Rooster, so why take some of the other lesser characters? to prove a point because he was cocky. but then we always knew it was going to come and save the day. But I felt they could've developed his character a bit more given him a bit more depth in the storyline. And then in the end his saving of the day wasn't quite as big, not dramatic enough, too low key, as I think it should've been bigger.

But all in all I thought it was so well made. True to the original. I thought it was absolutely fantastic. really really impressive.

CloeFree · 26/05/2022 06:56

Can't wait to see it!

Not exactly a new love interest of course. From the first film;

”Come on, he told me all about the time you went ballistic with Penny Benjamin.”

Oblomov22 · 26/05/2022 08:43

Geordie, I know, but that was only one line. In first firm. One reference. We knew no more about her.

LetitiaLeghorn · 26/05/2022 08:47

I know people hate Tom Cruise on here, but I think he makes fab films. He rarely disappoints.

So I don't care what people say, I love 💕 Tom.

Oblomov22 · 26/05/2022 08:51

I'm not even into Tom. Scientology yuk. But by God he's committed, makes good films. This was just perfect. I mean the whole thing, so feel good. What's not to like?

Oblomov22 · 26/05/2022 08:54

He's not a talker is he? Wink
Long conversations about the search for the meaning of life? Not. He says less words than most main characters.

"Just managing expectations".
"I'm not a teacher".

Are probably the longest sentences he actually says. But that's just all part of it isn't it? Grin

LetitiaLeghorn · 26/05/2022 08:58

How can you not love Tom? 😲 Graeme Norton says he's his favourite guest ever because he's so brilliant with all his staff and the public.

Graphista · 26/05/2022 09:58

Went to see it last night

Absolutely amazing!

I don't think we should put any spoilers on this thread as not in heading but I HIGHLY recommend seeing at the cinema if you possibly can!

Just loved it!

@dicdicnurse has it spot on though I did more than tear up and not just at the sad stuff involving characters but the situation for val Kilmer too

Not exactly a new love interest of course. From the first film;

Yea I was like "admirals daughter!" In the cinema!

@Oblomov22 no there's a few refs to her in 1st film I'd just rewatched a while ago

I know people hate Tom Cruise on here, but I think he makes fab films. He rarely disappoints.

Same

We were also treated to trailer for MI Dead reckoning part 1 which also looks Fucking awesome!

I know he can be a dick in real life but he makes great films and I love him as an actor!

LetitiaLeghorn · 26/05/2022 10:04

@Graphista 😲 He is not a dick. 😡 He's just misunderstood. 😊

Graphista · 26/05/2022 10:29

Hmm I'm a big fan and I think he treats his fans and many around him well, but yea he can be a dick around Mh etc

Reallyreallyborednow · 26/05/2022 11:03

I was not a fan at all and wasn’t going to see maverick.

then i watched the first one again, forgotten how good it was. I think it’s age shows- but in a good way, it highlighted to me how far we’ve come down the women are sex objects dressed in leather and heels, men are strong silent hyper masculine heros. If there are male relationships it’s in the context of homosexuality.

what suprised me about the first one is - he didn’t jump straight into bed with kelly. Films now are meet, flirt, then they’re doing aggressive fast rip your clothes off sex. When he went home that first time I was like bloody hell!

the relationships between the pilots, a woman boss in a male environment, men showing fear and it being ok, needing support after a death. Even Iceman who was supposed to be the antagonist you ended up thinking was a thoroughly good bloke.

i just hope the new one is the same and hasn’t joined in with the hero pilot saving the world lots of action tropes.

if it is then cruise will go up in my estimation again.

CaurnieBred · 26/05/2022 11:29

Saw it last night with DD(17): we both loved it. So, so good!

Jet2021 · 26/05/2022 22:34

Well! I LOVED that! 😁

MabelMoo23 · 27/05/2022 18:09

Oh my god.

it was amazing. I loved it. It was epic. I was emotional the minute the music started.

they literally don’t make films like that anymore. And yes I bloody sobbed in parts. But Top Gun is one of my favourite films of ALL times and I’m so invested in the story and the emotion of it all

I just loved it every second of it

jay55 · 27/05/2022 21:26

Loved it too. Thought it had a bit of everything in.

The music brought everything back from first time round too.

I wasn't on a date but it really is a great date night movie.

TheFairyNamedMary · 27/05/2022 22:23

Oblomov22 · 10/05/2022 20:17

What I don't get is why Goose's son hates him so much. It's as if they've never seen eachother, over the last 15 years. But Goose's wife (Meg Ryan) loved Maverick, so the son would've continued to see Maverik as son grew up.

They definitely would have stayed in touch, she didn’t blame him. She said he’d have flown anyway .. if Tom hadn’t flown.

RoofFlower · 27/05/2022 23:10

Mega. If you loved the first one you are going to love this too. I might even go so far as to say it’s better than the first.
I love Tom.
