New Top Gun is finally out next month, so long overdue, I'm hoping it won't disappoint! 🤞

They definitely would have stayed in touch, she didn’t blame him. She said he’d have flown anyway .. if Tom hadn’t flown.

My understanding from the film was because Mav had withdrawn his papers/application which put him back 4 years in his naval career. This was because Mav promised Carole stuff which I won’t go into because I don’t want to spoil it.

They probably wouldn’t have seen that much of each other. Military is weird like that. Once the funeral is over her family wouldn’t have been in the military circle. She would likely move to be close to her family or for a job.

He would be sent on deployment at least once probably more (And Americans can do up to two years away at a time) plus home duty can be any station in the states. So it’s entirely plausible he would be thousands of miles away most of the time and has only physically seen them maybe a handful of times with them both putting effort into the relationship. It’s likely the relationship would drift to a cards at Christmas type level, and maybe drinks if they happen to be in the same place by chance.

We watched it also, loved it, even forgot we had snacks which has never happened before!

@Jet2021 where do you live, asking for a friend ..

Jet2021 · 28/05/2022 09:13

@FAQs - Lincs 🙂

RedorangeyellowBLACK · 28/05/2022 22:14

Been to see it today, loved, loved it. Really liked that they used much of the original music too.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 28/05/2022 22:49

Watched it this evening, fucking loved it! Still got a massive grin on my face.

Franklin12 · 28/05/2022 23:21

That Tom Cruise makes fab films. The attention to detail was great. I suspect he is a massive control freak but look what he has produced.

Cinnabun18 · 28/05/2022 23:28

Watched it today only saw the first one a few months ago which I enjoyed. Can't believe I never watched. Was worried this one would be as good but it was highly entertaining!

Sunshinegirl82 · 28/05/2022 23:40

Watched it today and bloody hell what a film! I was on pins for practically the whole thing and had a proper adrenaline come down afterwards!

I know TC has some questionable ideas but he knows how to make an action film and he's knocked it out of the park with this one!

AnneShirleysNewDress · 29/05/2022 00:04

Saw it today and loved it. Miles Teller nailed it.

emaline83 · 29/05/2022 19:57

Just saw it. Amazing!! And yes to Miles Teller. The mannerisms and way he was styled like Goose was uncanny at times. Like all the reviews say do try to see it on the biggest screen you can. Tom Cruise may be a strange character but he makes one hell of a film.

Absolutely this.

on the edge of my seat, sounds so cliched, but oh my god I really was, and I was on a real high when I came out.

it was just epic.

ExcaliburBaby · 29/05/2022 23:01

Loved it!!! Really good sequel - made with care and affection and not just to cash in! Cheesy in all the best ways. Fab music. Age appropriate love interest for a change. Proper 80s/90s action movie vibes. 👏👏👏

Whippet · 30/05/2022 13:46

I'm not much of an action film fan, but DH persuaded me to see this last night and my god, it was bloody brilliant! I had seen the first one, but didn't remember all the throwback references, so might be worth watching the original again if you have it handy!

I said to DH after that what made it for me was that it was like a good old Hollywood movie without all the political bullshit that often creeps in these days.
So yes, it was probably more diverse than the original with more black and female representation (which is good) but it seemed natural/ appropriate rather than in a 'forced' tick box way. Also his rekindled relationship with his old flame was a slow, gentle build - no ripping off clothes and in the sack within 5 minutes.

I'm not much of a TC fan in real life, but he does as brilliant job in this!

EachandEveryone · 02/06/2022 02:18

I saw it today. Just fantastic and yes I was 17 again. Jon Hamm looked older than Tom Cruise and there must be ten years between them. Just goes to show you how drinking and ragging ages you 😀 like most people on here I’m not a TC fan but he is just so good and what he does it was faultless.

OvaHere · 02/06/2022 22:38

Went to see this tonight with 2 teens. We all enjoyed it a lot more than expected. I realised I couldn't remember much of the original so I might have to watch that again. The teens watched the first one beforehand so they actually picked up on references more than I did.

I'd also forgotten how much a cinema trip costs when there's a few of you. I think this is one of the few worth it to see on a big screen though. Won't have quite the same impact on a TV or laptop.

Northernlurker · 02/06/2022 22:53

Went to see it tonight. It's unbelievably good. Just fabulous

Definitely. We saw it on an IMAX screen and it was just amazing.

ENoeuf · 03/06/2022 11:19

Loved it - I think a spoiler warning should be added though as some of the storyline has been revealed on here and it's still really new.

CurlsandCurves · 04/06/2022 23:42

Saw this tonight and absolutely loved it!

When Rooster first made his appearance my first thought was ‘omg you look just like your dad’. Then I remembered it’s not real!

I thought they got the balance right. A new story with just the right amount of homage to the original.

Although those dog fights and spinning around in planes still makes me dizzy!

ENoeuf · 05/06/2022 11:46

The only bit I didn't like was how Rooster was so identical , it was ridiculous - same clothes, tache, songs - highly unlikely

SirChenjins · 05/06/2022 12:50

The timeline is completely off though, brilliant though it is. The last film was 36 years ago, with Rooster aged about 4 or 5. That would make him 40 - which he patently wasn’t! I forgive them this though, and fully appreciate I need to release my big butt cheeks.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 05/06/2022 18:02

Just Googled. Miles Teller is 35. The release of the film has been put back at least two years due to Covid. So it's not totally off, timeline wise.

SirChenjins · 05/06/2022 18:06

Miles Teller is 35 - but I don’t think he and the others weren’t playing 40 year olds (19 years younger that TC).

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 05/06/2022 18:19

Need someone in the know to tell us what the age of the pilots would be most likely to be at this point in their career!
