DH and I just finished watching 'Downsizing' starring Matt Damon and we're baffled.

Legit looked at each other at the end of the movie like wtf was that🤣🤣
The downsizing concept (shrinking people) sounded interesting and had so much potential at the start but then the movie suddenly turns into what feels like a completely different plot about global warming and saving the planet.
What a waste of a good cast too - Kristen Wiig, Christoph Waltz etc

It's not even bad in a funny way, it's just bad. I was expecting a comedy 😑
It's one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
Hated it so much I started a thread lmao 😂

What's the worst movie you've ever seen?

@Lsquiggles

Grease 2 Angry
Sacrilege!!
ChequerBoard · 11/06/2021 19:03

Red Sparrow - truly awful full on graphic soft porn sex scenes masquerading as a spy drama in a 15 rated movie.

Read the blurb, like Jennifer Lawrence movies generally, thought it sounded good. We sat down to watch it as a family movie night with DD who was then 16. OMG, it was a truly toe curling cringe fest which we all agreed to give up on pretty promptly.

StiggyZardust · 11/06/2021 19:04

Mamma Mia
Truly, Madly, Deeply

QuestionableMouse · 11/06/2021 19:05

Oh yeah, Into the Wild is awful. A friend bought me the DVD and I had to watch it with her. Spent the whole time wondering if I could nip to the loo and knock the power off so I wouldn't have to see any more.

Open Water was another crap one.

CheerfulBunny · 11/06/2021 19:07

@ChequerBoard Yes! It sounds like a good spy thriller but it's so graphic. Not what I expected at all. Urgh.

allofthecheese · 11/06/2021 19:07

Circle with Emma Watson and Tom Hanks. So rubbish I think I didn't even finish it Confused usually love Tom Hanks! But this was so... pointless and the acting was really bad.

Tarttlet · 11/06/2021 19:09

Witches of Eastwick - it was on the BBC about six months ago and I couldn't believe how awful it was, just true shite.

I can't believe previous posters have hated There Will Be Blood and Roma - both are brilliant!

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 11/06/2021 19:09

Solaris, the remake with George Clooney. Two hours of my life I won't be getting back

PaleGreenAndBrightOrange · 11/06/2021 19:12

The happening - starts off interesting (a mysterious plague has taken over the planet but they don’t know how it’s spreading- it makes people commit suicide).

Spoiler alert: it’s the trees. They’re angry about global warming, are communicating and conspiring against humans.

Lots of shots of trees swaying in a gentle breeze set to menacing music. Bizarre.

thelegohooverer · 11/06/2021 19:14

Forever Young - I watched it as a teen and it turned me into a man hating feminist 😂

Billed as a romance - woman is in a coma and dying and instead of holding her hand and thinking about her, her useless boyfriend gets himself cryogenically frozen because he can’t cope with his feelings. She recovers, finds he’s disappeared, and eventually gets on with her life. He gets unfrozen 50 years later, has sex with young hot thing, but only when he starts speed ageing goes looking for the girlfriend. He’s an ancient old geezer when he turns up on her doorstep. So after letting her down spectacularly in her youth she doesn’t even get the benefit of him being young and sexy, and unbelievably accepts his marriage proposal instead of giving him the swift kick in the nuts he deserved.

mrstea301 · 11/06/2021 19:14

Public enemies. On paper it's amazing - good true life story, all star cast, good director.. absolute drivel.

Anoisagusaris · 11/06/2021 19:18

AI

Yogaposer · 11/06/2021 19:20

The Revenant. I walked out of the cinema eventually as it was just tedious.
Sex and the City 2 was atrocious.
The one with George Clooney in outer space, I think it was called Elysium.

MsJuniper · 11/06/2021 19:20

The Notebook.

Yogaposer · 11/06/2021 19:22

I have to correct myself it was called Gravity

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 11/06/2021 19:25

Sharknado - all 6 of them. No idea why we watched more after the first. Awful films that need no details.

salsmum · 11/06/2021 19:29

Grease 2
Blair witch ( both)
Moulan rouge
An old film called Jacobs ladder
...... weddings and a funeral ( I fell asleep) 😳
Anything with Sylvester Stallone ( he mumbles too much)
Nicolas cage ^^ same reason.

BunTooti · 11/06/2021 19:37

Zombeavers!! But it was also amazing Grin

Rightgroove · 11/06/2021 19:38

Cloverfield! SO SO bad, and it gave me motion sickness. I feel asleep in the cinema to escape it

FourTeaFallOut · 11/06/2021 19:41

I love disaster movies so I have a pretty high tolerance for bullshit and cheese - I quite like The Core, for instance. So it's in that context that I give you Icetastrophe and Left Behind - the worst movies in the world.

ChubbyMsSunshine · 11/06/2021 19:42

Controversially, I thought Mama Mia was awful. Just awful.

Or sharknado - but at least Sharknado was aware it was crap!!!

daysofpearlyspencer · 11/06/2021 19:43

Second into the wild, just awful, thought the guy was a total bore.

Disfordarkchocolate · 11/06/2021 19:43

I liked Downsizing, I didn't expect to but unexpectedly found it moving.

Aquaman is the worst film I have ever seen, by a mile.

Graphista · 11/06/2021 19:45

Erm...assuming you're watching at home as it's an old film, why did you keep watching it if it was so bad?

This is what I love about streaming. Pick a movie but if it's crap/I'm not feeling it, dead easy to just turn it off. Put something else on

Cube

 sacrilege! Great movie!

And Casablanca was shite

Oh ffs!

Heathens!

The one film I fell asleep in the cinema to was a psychological thriller (not at all thrilling) called Shattered Greta scaachi and Tom berenger awful film. I was on a first date too so...didn't make a great impression

Vanilla Sky ..

WTF

Yea, contrary to popular mn opinion I quite like Tom cruise (as an Actor I know as a man he's a bit of a twat) but even I was befuddled by this one it was an endurance test!

Re Roma, Gravity etc I refuse to watch ANY Alfonso cuaron movies in support of Tess geritsen who he royally screwed over with gravity

Another who couldn't stand bridesmaids but had to suffer it with friends - we're no longer friends

I now won't watch anything with a score of 7 or below on IMBD. Even 7.5 is pushing it..

Good rule of thumb, I generally also look at "critical response" on wiki and check the rotten tomato score, anything less than 65% not usually worth the effort, although I have noticed women centred/aimed films tend not to score well so it's not a hard fast rule.

Roger ebert and I generally agreed on what a good film is, not always but often. (And yes I'm aware also a twat at times but he knew a good film)

If anyone can recommend a similarly non up their arse film critic I'd love that

I couldn't finish the book either, I gave up after four chapters

I didn't even make it 3 pages on the kindle sample! Awful!

@allofthecheese I saw the circle, not as bad as most. The problem with a film based on modern/near future tech is it takes so long from idea to release that by the time such films come out they're obsolete

Skyliner001 · 11/06/2021 19:47

The holiday, love actually
