In your opinion, which roles were miscast?

I’ll start off with musicals:

Russell Crowe in Les Miserables
Piers Brosnan in Mamma Mia

I don’t think their singing was strong enough. There were enough star names so I wished the producers had been braver and cast unknowns who could act and sing.

OP posts:

Keanu Reeves as Jonathan Harker in Bram Stoker’s Dracula

That whole film was terrible. I walked out of the cinema

AgathaFisticuffs · 11/08/2020 20:31

Julia Roberts in Erin Brockovich - her acting was fine but her beauty is far too ethereal

Greenglassteacup · 11/08/2020 20:33

I thought Gary Oldman was a great Dracula though

Tom Hanks in The Da Vinci Code - should have been Robert Sean Leonard

Giggorata · 11/08/2020 20:40

@JackiesArmy

All the Harry Potter kids, especially Ginny. But not Neville.

Pierce Brosnan redeemed himself (a little) in Mamma Mia 2 which was way superior to the original imo.

Peter Capaldi in Dr Who.

Can't agree with you about Peter Capaldi... a good actor and a potentially great Doctor. The script was what let him down, that and the beginning of the declining standard and over prominence of the companions.

@PushyMeez

Controversial but I'm saying Jennifer Ehle in P&P, she seemed too old somehow (and I found her unlikeable) 🤭

Tobey Maguire as Spiderman, he had no humour

All of the live action Beauty and the Beast cast, especially Emma Watson

No! I thought JE was perfect! She had a figure on her for one thing!
Concretenotcement · 11/08/2020 20:42

Olivia Colman in anything.. I really don’t get the love for her. She mumbles, speaks too quickly and does the ‘eyes looking left and right quickly’ acting thing that I find really annoying!

Thecazelets · 11/08/2020 20:44

Keira Knightley in anything. I just loathe her - can't help it.

SmileTolerantly · 11/08/2020 20:49

I agree that the ages of all the adults in HP are wrong but at least Thewlis, Spall and Oldman are roughly consistent in age and the plot still makes sense if the Potters were thirty rather than twenty when they died. But Alan Rickman is decades too old to have been classmates with those three and there’s no way he could be the childhood buddy of Lily Potter. It’s a fantastic performance, but it offends my inner pedant.

Thecazelets · 11/08/2020 20:50

Oh and the actor who played Steven in Notes on a Scandal.

CaptainCallisto · 11/08/2020 20:50

This is controversial, but Sean Bean in GoT. Ned Stark is supposed to be a closed book emotionally; he keeps his true thoughts and feelings to himself. It's one of the reasons he ends up in the situations he does. Sean Bean showed every tiny thought and feeling, everything was written all over his face and body language. I stopped watching after about episode three because it was so badly cast! (I did go back and watch them all later though)

HellonHeels · 11/08/2020 20:52

@LunaNorth

Daniel Radcliffe in the Harry Potter films and in The Woman In Black.

Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham Carter in The Crown.

Let's face it Daniel Radcliffe in anything.
Peridodo · 11/08/2020 20:54

I recently watched the film ‘Knives Out’ with Daniel Craig playing a private detective with a Southern (American) accent. IMO he just couldn’t do it, he kept going in and out of his English accent. He just didn’t fit the role at all.
I really didn’t rate the film either, loads of great actors but it was too long and drawn out! Such a shame.

PleaseChooseAnother · 11/08/2020 20:54

Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet in Sense and Sensibility - they were just too old for the characters. I wish Emma Thompson could have done the film a decade earlier

Definitely Keira Knightly in Pride and Prejudice. I could have enjoyed Matthew MacFadyen in it a lot more with a different Elizabeth Bennett.

PleaseChooseAnother · 11/08/2020 20:57

Also this, because I can't think of him as an adult.

Luckily this hasn't spoilt anything that I've really wanted to watch yet, so I've just turned the films off

Greenglassteacup · 11/08/2020 21:00

Jack Black in anything at all, he’s dreadful

FloraGreysteel · 11/08/2020 21:01

Russell Crowe in Master and Commander.

PushyMeez · 11/08/2020 21:01

@Ginger1982 I'm sorry but I much preferred Keira Knightley 😆😆

Bloodylush · 11/08/2020 21:03

Emma Stone in La La Land

Crazycrazylady · 11/08/2020 21:04

Kiera knightly in pride and prejudice obviously.

jolokoy · 11/08/2020 21:07

You're so wrong I'm actually worried for you. Grin

Jennifer Ehle was the perfect Lizzie Bennet. Fact.

I don't understand why she isn't a mega star.

turnthebiglightoff · 11/08/2020 21:09

Emma Watson as Meg in Little Women. Also Timothe what's his name as Laurie. Dreadful casting to the point I hope the casting managers see this thread Grin

toria658 · 11/08/2020 21:09

Nick Nolte A Walk In The Woods - no way would Stephen Katz have been like that, plus his diction was appalling and an unnecessary character interpretation.
Michael Gambon as Dumbledore - not a patch on Richard Harris.

Bouncealot · 11/08/2020 21:11

Anne Hathaway in One Day-her looks are wrong, the accent is so bad, it’s almost on a Dick can Dyke level of Englishness
