Can we have a "What movie NOT to see" thread?

Tell me what NOT to see and why NOT to see it ...

We got out The Black Dahlia (Josh Hartnett, Scarlett Johanssen) the other day on DVD.
Pants pants pants .... even DH didn't like it and he likes the sort of film that makes you think ... we didn't get it ... crap.
And what is it about 'mumbling' at the moment ... DH and I spent most of the film saying either, "What did he say?" or "Who the hell is he?" ...

Don't waste your money ...

Your turn -

Just caught up with the actual thread now, I also found Happiness and Welcome to the Dollshouse boring, didn't even know they were the same director.
Saw This is England on Saturday which was all right but the little boy (12?) got off with this 16yr old girl which was a bit disturbing and ruined the whole film for both me and DH.

Oh yes agree about Eyes Wide Shut.
Arty rubbish, painful to watch Cruise and Kidman together when clearly there was no chemistry between them.
Smug Cruise in an arty/erotic film... euuhh

franca70 · 09/05/2007 10:49

Eyes wide shut: I've never actually met anyone who liked it. As for me, I found the idea of a movie starring both tom cruise and nicole kidman rather off-putting (not sure whether this word exist in actual english )

franca70 · 09/05/2007 10:50

x posted articroll! yes cruise and erotic don't really go together

SoapOnARope · 09/05/2007 13:07

'While you were sleeping'

I actually heard a bloke saying on the way out that it was the best film he'd ever seen???????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

shitty shite

oh that irritating linklater double with ethan hawke
and julie delpy
booooooooooring
even though i like linklater

sauce · 11/05/2007 12:04

I hated Magnolia or whatever that over-hyped thing was called with Tom bloody Cruise in it. Saw it when I was pg with dd & had to walk out.

Also loathed Borat.

United 93 made me feel like a voyeur in the worst way. Not a bad film but I wish I hadn't seen it.

Laudaud · 11/05/2007 12:06

Zizou, I like most of the ones you hate - let me know what others you don't like so I can watch them

zizou · 11/05/2007 12:09

will do laudaud

expatinscotland · 11/05/2007 12:10

God, YES, zizou!

That ridiculous Julie Delpy/Ethan Hawke horror show!

I turned it off after about half an hour.

That drivel was making me lose the will to live.

sauce · 11/05/2007 12:12

What was it called?

DaddyJ · 11/05/2007 12:19

Happiness (not 'Happyness' right?) opened my eyes to American indie, v powerful.

I try and avoid most Hollywood blockbusters, Mission Impossible 3 was particularly pants.

expatinscotland · 11/05/2007 12:23

Before Sunset.

That was it!

Pile of steaming horse dung.

franca70 · 11/05/2007 15:58

yes, "happyness" was my fault. ashamed emoticon. but a great movie !
I actually liked magnolia and think it's the only movie where cruise is remotely bearable...

DaddyJ · 12/05/2007 10:32

It's a real shame cruise & kidman starred in Eyes Wide Shut because the plot itself was not bad at all.
They should have got Clive Owen & Kristin Scott Thomas!

Another one to avoid: Bride and Prejudice
Main problem was the male lead, weedy and unconvincing.

franca70 · 12/05/2007 16:11

I'm not sure whether I remember well or not, but wasn't the plot taken from an Arthur Schnitzler novel/play? He was an excellent writer.
agree with bride and prejudice

DaddyJ · 12/05/2007 16:44

franca, maybe you can help me here:
my all-time favourite Italian movie contains about 10 different plot lines, the most memorable was about an attractive female traffic warden.
Do you know which one I mean?

Trouble is, I only saw the last 40 minutes and don't remember what it's called.
(Should have started a new thread really..)

cathcart · 12/05/2007 16:59

oh agree with eyes wide shut! also minority repot! that was shite!

franca70 · 12/05/2007 17:12

You totally lost me daddyj. can you tell me more? sounds like one of those seventies b movies with edvige fenech or is it an artsy one?

Dont know if anyone has mentioned this but recently I saw The History Boys which was shocking

franca70 · 12/05/2007 17:25

I actually saw bride and prejudice at the local picture house, which used to run mornings for mums with small babies, but they had a very tame programme...

DaddyJ · 12/05/2007 18:00

dont' worry, franca, it was a long time ago!
movie was from the 90s, crazy, jolly comedy, lots of interweaving plotlines. Great fun!

Another difficult movie: Abre los ojos
The first half was intriguing and brilliant, the second half bit too weird.
