Tell me what NOT to see and why NOT to see it ...

We got out The Black Dahlia (Josh Hartnett, Scarlett Johanssen) the other day on DVD.
Pants pants pants .... even DH didn't like it and he likes the sort of film that makes you think ... we didn't get it ... crap.
And what is it about 'mumbling' at the moment ... DH and I spent most of the film saying either, "What did he say?" or "Who the hell is he?" ...

Don't waste your money ...

Your turn -

omg yes closer was unmitigated shit!

hideous characters

embarrassingly bad

ghosty · 08/05/2007 13:34

Yes, Closer was terrible ... cringe

Has anyone seen the Jude Law, Kate Winslett film "The Holiday"?

Don't .... utter pants too ...

I second american beauty, didn't like it at all.
as for closer, I didn't even think about going to see it. I always try to stay clear from jude law...

franca70 · 08/05/2007 13:36

ghosty I wathched the holiday on the plane! I have no words to describe jude law... terrible....

ghosty · 08/05/2007 13:38

I was so glad I saw it on a plane too franco (ie, that I didn't pay any money to see it)...
It was mind numbingly dull and crap ...

the proposition was diabolical

DrippingLizzie · 08/05/2007 13:41

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (or whatever it was called) with Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey. Tedious and irritating.

DragonFaerie · 08/05/2007 13:41

DH got Borat out the other night, I had to stop watching after a few minutes, thought it was awful. Hate anything that makes me cringe every 2 seconds.

Sunyshineymummy · 08/05/2007 13:41

Two Moon Juntion. Has some truly terrible lines 'God, you're beautiful' but BF wanted to see it as Sherilyn Fenn gets her tits oot. It is categorically the worst film I've ever seen.

franca70 · 08/05/2007 13:42

what's the proposition?

Molesworth · 08/05/2007 13:43

ray winstone/guy pearce 'western' set in australia = the proposition

avoid

franca70 · 08/05/2007 13:49

I will!

Aefondkiss · 08/05/2007 13:53

lost in translation
pan's labyrinth

are two that spring to mind

I really liked Little Miss Sunshine

Notyummy · 08/05/2007 13:57

I can't believe someone has included Donnie Darko....its a fecking classic!!

Lets just end this thread here and now....any film with Steven Seagal in is bound to crap.

End of.

Nothing else competes.

Nothing.

Winestein · 08/05/2007 14:02

Agree - Donnie Darko absolute class.

And Pans Labyrinth was brilliant! Philistine!!

Boco · 08/05/2007 14:17

I loved Donnie Darko too, excellent film.

Tinker · 08/05/2007 14:20

I loved Lost in Translastion but completely agree about the History Boys. They'd just be the Smug Wankers if you knew them in real life.

powder28 · 08/05/2007 17:09

Sorry if someone has already said this, but there is a site called The Movie Spoiler where you can find out what happens in just about any movie. I had to have a look at it after I watched Saw, and I still didnt really get it. Horrible film anyway.

Noooo Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind was amazing, I'm a total Gondry fan, whatever he does is my gold!

Agree Donnie darko a classic...

I thought da vinci was pants (so much of the story was 'told' what's the point of that in a 'visual' media - duh!)

I hated the day after tommorow and has anyone seen Palindromes? Awful 'concept' film that was crap - main character kept changing actress all through film, totally pointless and confusing.

Like this thread though

Pruni, It was 'human nature' and yes quite old. Don't know if it made it to the big screen but you can get it on dvd. I like it. Worth a dig round your blockbuster 3 for £5 section.. I can't wait for 'the science of sleep' to arrive on dvd too, it never made it near our little backwater cinemas in Feb

Oh yeah another one - I hated war of the worlds too

Molesworth · 08/05/2007 18:06

I haven't seen Palindromes yet, but I love Todd Solondz's other films ...

franca70 · 08/05/2007 18:07

lol pruni. I have a ban on robbie williams too. and tom hanks. and yes, probably jennifer aniston, though I'm not ashamed to say that I loved her as rachel.
I have palindromes on my dvd rental list. basically because I really liked happyness and welcome to the dollshouse, from the same directors.
