Can we take it Jean de Florette, Manon des Sources, Etre et Avoir and Amelie as read though?

My local video hire place has a huge selection of French films but I don't know where to start ...

Un air de famille
Le goût des autres
and the other Bacri/Jaoui ones.)
Liberté-Oléron
La Grande vadrouille

aol · 22/03/2007 08:41

Strangely, it is far easier to find and rent old (as in last year +) French films in the UK than it is here in France. Old Rambos, no problem. Dirty dancing? A doddle. Babette's Feast? Quoi?

margoandjerry · 22/03/2007 08:44

le grand chemin - best film ever. please please see it and then tell me how much you loved it!

poil de carotte is similar - both about children being rejected

sunnywong · 22/03/2007 08:52

steer clear of the Piano Teacher

she's a right loon

AuldAlliance · 22/03/2007 09:42

Ooh, yes, Le Grand chemin.
Tanguy (but maybe I only like it because it rings bells: I have a 30 yr-old Tanguy-type brother)

All of mine have already been mentioned- 400 Coups, Cyranno de Bergerac and many more but
I just remembered 'Un Coeur en hiver' and'La Seperation',Daniel Auteiul is such a prolific actor.

aol · 22/03/2007 10:39

Is A la folie the one where she is in love with the doctor? If so, that was filmed in Bordeaux

I saw a really cool one a few months ago, with those guys who do building jumping, whatever its called.

The film was District 13. Not to be confused with precint 13 (or it might be the other way round }

MissGolightly · 25/04/2007 15:23

Oh and aol, I found Belleville Rendezvous weird too! I thought it would be about Belleville when I went to the cinema, should have read the critiques!

PavlovtheCat · 25/04/2007 15:24

oh and of course. Amelie. I love her hair. I am having mine like that at my >>

laudaud · 25/04/2007 15:36

Un long dimanche de fiançailles (A very long engagement) - reminds me of the Sebastien Faulks book Birdsong. Another one with Audrey Tatou - big fan of hers since seeing Amelie.
