Have to disagree as well with who ever said Anthony Hopkins and Hannibal Lector; he's not synonymous with the roll, know yes but he's far too good an actor and know for other roles too

I agree that the fact that a good actor plays a particularly well-known role doesn't make them synonymous with that role only. Ian McKellen, for instance, has done so much brilliant work that he cannot be defined as either Gandalf or Magneto - to me if anything his major role was MacBeth; likewise Paul Newman is not synonymous with Cool Hand Luke, he is just as definable as Butch Cassidy or Hud or The Hustler or Henry Gondorff.
