EffieIsATrinket · 01/08/2016 00:55

Michael C Hall = Dexter

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 01/08/2016 01:06

Michael Crawford will always be Frank Spencer.

He's a brilliant singer and west end star, but all I can hear is "Ooh, Betty!"!

Gingernaut · 01/08/2016 01:14

Ray Winstone will always be a menacing Cockney hardcase

Sgtmajormummy · 01/08/2016 02:27

Maggie Smith will always be Maggie Smith the world-weary aristocratic woman of few words.

QforCucumber · 01/08/2016 02:34

Ooooo donkey for me Sir Ian McKellen will always be magneto.

Matt let blanc - Joey Tribbiani

EverySongbirdSays · 01/08/2016 02:37

Alan Dale can appear in as many high quality US TV series as he wants he will always be Jim Robinson off of Neighbours Grin

Bogeyface · 01/08/2016 02:40

Songbird H and I were watching the lastest Indiana Jones and we both shouted "Jim Robinson!" when he came on :o

Bogeyface · 01/08/2016 02:41

AdmiralData · 01/08/2016 02:52

John Lequizamo - Bloke who always dies. I shit you not. look him up. I've seen one film where he does not for and I'm sure I imagined that. I did love him as an actor until he started In a Bieber video (and broke my heart)

AdmiralData · 01/08/2016 02:54

die starred. Fuck sakes.

AdmiralData · 01/08/2016 02:54

Leguizamo not lequiz ... i quit.

scaryteacher · 01/08/2016 02:59

Michael Weatherly will always be diNozzo in NCIS.

Clickncollect · 01/08/2016 03:02

Ian McShane will always be Lovejoy - he recently popped up in an episode of Game of Thrones and was referred to as Lovejoy throughout the discussions on the mumsnet GoT thread and nobody batted an eyelid!

EverySongbirdSays · 01/08/2016 03:28

Click I was one of them! There are several on game of thrones who I think will always be referred to henceforth as that character. Littlefinger, Jon Snuur.

Bogey When he was the Vice President on 24 I referred to him endlessly as Vice President Jim Robinson

Which brings me to Kiefer Sutherland and Jack Bauer

Sean Astin (Sam from Lotr) also turned up on 24 and I referred to him throughout as "Stupid Fat Hobbit"

sleepwhatsleep · 01/08/2016 05:02

Sean Bean will always be dead by the end of the film.

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 01/08/2016 05:38

There was also Al Swearengen of course (Look! Lovejoy's cussingGrin)

Andrew Sachs, to his chagrin, will always be Manuel.

Richard Wilson, also to his chagrin, will always be Victor Meldrew.

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 01/08/2016 05:56

David Suchet - Poirot

StealthPolarBear · 01/08/2016 06:39

Steve Buscemi is always a minor but incredibly important role

Becles · 01/08/2016 06:47

Dame Margaret Rutherford will always be Miss Marple and Miss Marple will always be Dame MR.

Nope.

Joan Hickson is the definitive Miss Marple; although I'll grant you that Margaret Rutherford is a damn sight better than those recent ITV travesties masquerading as remakes.

FoxesOnSocks · 01/08/2016 07:02

Joan Hickson is Miss Marple.

Have to disagree as well with who ever said Anthony Hopkins and Hannibal Lector; he's not synonymous with the roll, know yes but he's far too good an actor and know for other roles too

n0ne · 01/08/2016 07:37

Guy Pierce - Mike from Neighbours
Mark Wahlberg - Marky Mark

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 01/08/2016 07:46

David Tennant and Matt Smith as The Doctor

Same could and is said of any one that's ever played the doctor, especially Tom baker.

John Thaw, Inspector Morse.

And similarly Kevin Wheatley will always be LEWIS.

JudyCoolibar · 01/08/2016 07:48

I agree that the fact that a good actor plays a particularly well-known role doesn't make them synonymous with that role only. Ian McKellen, for instance, has done so much brilliant work that he cannot be defined as either Gandalf or Magneto - to me if anything his major role was MacBeth; likewise Paul Newman is not synonymous with Cool Hand Luke, he is just as definable as Butch Cassidy or Hud or The Hustler or Henry Gondorff.

JudyCoolibar · 01/08/2016 07:49

I think you mean Kevin Whateley, Naught.

grumpmitchell · 01/08/2016 07:50

Ross Kemp will only ever be Grant Mitchell.
