John Travolta
Bradley Walsh
Bonnie Langford

Now don't laugh! Sometimes you see someone from when you were much younger and then realise that they are REALLY bloody good actors. What would be your nominations?

Leo was amazing in gangs of new York cancels out titanic which is as romantic as a pile of poop

I do that with Andrew Lincoln gin everytime i see him in that zombi thing i piss off dh by saying oh look egg from this lifeGrin

YvaineStormhold · 09/06/2016 08:54

I agree with Jennifer Aniston. Excellent comic timing, and if you watch her in Cake you can see that she can do the gritty stuff too.

heron98 · 09/06/2016 09:21

I agree with Leonardo Di Caprio. I think he is truly excellent in Romeo and Juliet.

LurkingHusband · 09/06/2016 09:34

Billy Connolly ? Was excellent in "The Debt Collector" (very heavy role).

Tom Cruise ? "Born on the Fourth of July" was amazing.

reallywittyname · 09/06/2016 09:35

Hugh Grant, saw him in Florence Foster Jenkins with La Streep and he was a revelation.

CrazyDuchess · 09/06/2016 09:38

Matt Damon in the Martian.... he was brilliant!

NeedACleverNN · 09/06/2016 09:39

Yes Hugh Grant

He is a chameleon really isn't it? He's mostly known for Wolverine which he fits to a T but I saw him in Austrailia and I never would have guessed. He was completely different.

I also love Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp. They act so well together and both seamlessly fit in to what they are doing

QuestionableMouse · 09/06/2016 09:46

Jensen Ackles. There's been more than one scene in Supernatural that blew me away.

reallywittyname · 09/06/2016 09:51

I think you mean Hugh Jackman!

NaraDeer · 09/06/2016 09:51

Need, umm it's Hugh Jackman that plays Wolverine. Hugh Grant is the one from Notting Hill etc Grin

MrsJayy · 09/06/2016 09:53

Agree Matthew McConnaughey was so typecast in the early 00s, but he is a phenomenal actor. Outstanding in True Detective and Dallas Buyers Club. I'm glad he is finally getting recognition.

Also agree with John Travolta and Robin Williams - loved him in Good Will Hunting.

Also think Tom Hardy is a brilliant character actor.

TeaAndCake · 09/06/2016 10:02

Absolutely can't stand her but Mariah Carey was bloody fantastic in Precious.

Mommawoo · 09/06/2016 10:02

I agree Jonah Hill is an excellent actor and really surprised everyone after he moved away from stoner comedies. Matthew Mcconaughay (sp) was absolutly brilliant in Dallas Buyers Club.

Can I add a vote for Peter Dinklage? Ive become slightly obsessed with him after GOT and the scene where he is sentenced to death by his father is Oscar worthy. I recently watched The Station Agent and he was amazing in that. Seems like a genuinly nice guy too and very humble.

limitedperiodonly · 09/06/2016 10:04

Hugh Grant as Wolverine. I don't care if it's a mistake. I'm going to add it to my list of iconic roles that actors turned down. What he could have brought to that character... Wink

I had such a ridiculous crush on Matthew McConaghey while pregnant, I must have watched True Detective about 3 times, man he is sexy in that - but I could pretend to DH that I was just trying to work out the complicated storyline Grin. I watched some of his earlier films too including the truly toe curling Failure to Launch. Such tripe you feel embarrassed for him. But he is a really great actor.

As is Tom Hanks. Never really thought of him as one but to carry a film like Castaway single handed requires some real talent.

YvaineStormhold · 09/06/2016 10:09

Yes! Marian Carey in Precious! Why has she never pursued that? Her performance was jaw-dropping.

I also liked Daryl Hannah in Steel Magnolias.

limitedperiodonly · 09/06/2016 10:13

I like Robin Williams in comic roles too - he's wonderful in Good Morning Vietnam, Mrs Doubtfire and his improvisation as the Genie in Aladdin was inspired.

It's just that he had a yearning towards sentimentalism that spoiled the endings of Good Morning Vietnam and Mrs Doubtfire and inspired lots of horrendous projects - I don't think I've ever seen anything more well-intentioned, yet as depressing than When Dreams May Come.

When a director was tough enough to tell him to tone it down a bit, he was great.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 09/06/2016 10:13

Barbra Streisand

Her comic timing is fantastic

Agree Jennifer Aniston she outshone the Friends cast not hard with two of them

Cheezewhizz · 09/06/2016 10:18

I love robin Williams. Tom hanks is brilliant as well.

Steve busemi is my favourite underrated actor.

limitedperiodonly · 09/06/2016 10:19

Don't be Blush NeedACleverNN. That kind of mistake is the way all the best urban myths begin. I am now going to insist that Hugh Grant was the original choice for Wolverine and his superpower would have been a self-deprecating manner than lulls people into thinking he's a benign, bumbling fool when he in fact is an evil genius bent on world domination.

But he turned it down because Richard Curtis promised him a franchise that he thought would be more lucrative than X-Men.

NeedACleverNN · 09/06/2016 10:21

Now that would interesting wouldn't it?
