Now don't laugh! Sometimes you see someone from when you were much younger and then realise that they are REALLY bloody good actors. What would be your nominations?

I quite like Bruce Willis. He has been gung ho action man, a geek, a straight man, comedic roles, a man for all seasons really!

I couldn't stand him in moonlighting but gradually enjoyed his films. I like him in 12 monkeys, death becomes her, mercury rising, bonfire of the vanities.

Ooh yes, Occult, Robin Williams was an excellent straight actor. I always found him irritating as a comedian but in One Hour Photo and other serious roles he was superb.

I agree. I preferred Robin Williams as a serious character. He was fab in one hour photo.

I also enjoyed him in The Fisher King.

Rory Kinnear - I've seen him in 2 plays & in some Bond films. A proper actor.

Alyson Hannigan- when I see HIMYM I never think of Buffy, when I watch Buffy I never see the character from American Pie- always surprises me.

I really liked Channing Tatum in Magic Mike, and not just for the obvious reasons

Sister Mary Cynthia in Call the Midwife, after she was attacked and she became angry. I'd never thought much of her before but that scene blew me away.

Robin Williams was spectacular in One Hour Photo, and in The Birdcage

Jennifer Aniston makes shit films but I think she's actually a solid comedy actress. If you look at early Friends episodes she's gold. She just needs to stop making shit films

Leonardo Dicaprio is a big one for me. Agree also with Rory kinnear, although sometimes I do see keep seeing him as the prime minister, that was quite a role!

Amanda Holden. I saw her on stage in Thoroughly Modern Millie acting, singing and dancing for two hours and she was really good at everything. But then she was good as Miss Titley in The Grimleys too.

I had only seen jen as mystique which she is good at but she was great in American hustle.

JL is just astonishing in Winter's Bone. I thoroughly recommend it, though it's not for the faint of heart.

Pauline Quirke really surprised me - she was verynmenacing Iin broadchurch and I did not think of birds of a feather at all.

Matthew McConnaughey - started out in very fluffy rom-coms. Brilliant in quite a lot of things recently. Especially good in 'True Detective'.

Another vote for Robin Williams in non comedies. He could play such varied roles and you could believe he was that character despite his own personality being so strong.

I think Leonardo DiCaprio showed his acting talent early on in 'What's eating Gilbert Grape' but it got forgotten in the utter tosh of 'Titanic' (sorry to everyone who loves it!). Now he's older he plays much more interesting parts again.
