Anyone got any recommendation of good scary films? I haven't seen one that's actually scared me for a long time.

I'm watching the babadook, it's ok but it has the flavour of a children's drama rather than something aimed at adults
kind of simplistic and a bit wooden....also reminds me of a very early episode of neighbours

gamerchick · 27/01/2016 22:32

I think the babadook needs to be watched until the end.

suzannecaravaggio · 27/01/2016 22:44

I will stick with it!

pocketsaviour · 28/01/2016 14:40

Those posters who recommended Event Horizon - you owe me 90 minutes of my life back Hmm

I kept thinking it was going to get better. It was only Lawrence Fishburne who kept me going. I wanted to see if he broke the usual Hollywood convention that the black guy always dies by the end Grin

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 28/01/2016 14:44

You're joking pocket? I found it utterly horrifying - the scenes of Hell, the woman "seeing" her son in the tent with the ulcered legs, and then following him - properly creeped me out.

dustarr73 · 28/01/2016 14:57

Event Horizon is shite, its so bad i even forgot i watched it.Until halfway through and realised why it looked so familiarGrin

StrattersDD · 28/01/2016 15:05

Blimey Grin I have the flu, so quite a lot to keep me going!!

StrattersDD · 28/01/2016 15:26

dustarr73 you poor thing Sad I think I'm starting to get over it, frustrating as I have mocks next week that I've been too brain farty to revise for - at least I started about a month ago!

Anyone mentioned Banshee Chapter? Terrified me for weeks.

midsomermurderess · 28/01/2016 15:35

Wolf Creek scared the bejesus out of me. I'd think more than twice before wandering off the beaten track in deepest Western Australia.

bessiebumptious2 · 28/01/2016 16:15

Have to agree with Wolf Creek being the most horrible. It's a good film but one I can never watch again. I think it's good because the characters do everything that you would actually do in that situation so rather than getting frustrated that they're being a bit stupid, they do actually use common sense so for that reason, it's a very well thought out film and the only time I've ever seen that done in a film.

It's just so horrible though.

midsomermurderess · 28/01/2016 16:40

Wolf Creek spoiler alert (how long do they last for?)
The character he was torturing in the barn did do one key thing wrong though Bessie. She didn't check that he was actually DEAD. I'd have shot and shot and shot him until there was no doubt.

bessiebumptious2 · 28/01/2016 16:47

Hmm, not sure about that midsomermurderess ! I think if I'd just shot someone for the first time ever, I'd be too shocked to pump a few more rounds in him.

But, ok, I'll give you that one Grin !

jetsetlil · 28/01/2016 17:27

Has anyone mentioned 'In fear'? Watched it a month ago or so on film 4. Very stressful and jumpy

SilverMachine · 28/01/2016 18:14

Shamelessly place marking to read the full thread later. I love a good scary film. Looking forward to this one coming out (warning, scary link!)

Nataleejah · 28/01/2016 20:20

Elderly neighbour?

StrattersDD · 28/01/2016 20:20

Have to say the Exorcist is timeless and still the most disturbing film Ive ever seen.

revealall · 28/01/2016 21:04

Event Horizon is a great film! Who doesn't love the idea that Hell is a real place accessible from space?

Anyway someone else up thread mentioned Silent Hill. I loved this. Thought it was going to be a crap US filler film from a video game. Actually it's about the love of a parent so really emotional. And a great ending....

StrattersDD · 29/01/2016 12:03

SilverMachine I think it may be out in the US, watched a youtube vid and someone was sayiing how good it was! So hopefully it won't be long until it comes over

I just watched Wolf Creek. It's not as gory or scary as other things I've seen but it left me very uncomfortable!

Did the girl that had her spinal cord cut just die then?

I don't recall Splice being gory but there is a scene towards the end that is so disturbing, my body is tensing just at the memory.

FlowersAndShit · 29/01/2016 20:18

I just watched The Orphanage, thought it was shit. Really boring and not that scary at all.

StrattersDD · 29/01/2016 20:37

WaitrosePigeonCurrently watching - fingers just got sliced Grin
