Anyone got any recommendation of good scary films? I haven't seen one that's actually scared me for a long time.

Tummy The Japanese horror films are shit scary! Ju-on freaked me out for weeks after, I had to sleep with the hall light on for ages Blush

Shakey15000 · 23/01/2016 20:23

Exorcist and The Woman in Black are the only two films that have proper scared me.

Usually I'm tutting away giving it the old "What are you DOING?? Run out the fucking door not upstairs you stupid person you" Grin

StrattersDD · 23/01/2016 20:24

The foreign ones all look good! Dead Silence on Netflix is very good btw for anyone who hasn't seen it

Stratter5 · 23/01/2016 20:28

Andrewofgg · 23/01/2016 20:31

The Abominable Dr Phibes

StrattersDD · 23/01/2016 20:32

"My opinion of films- pre 2008 and they're shit" - my boyfriend

Sigh. Back to the drawing board.

He also refused to watch Ju-on, he said he'd seen it and it "scared the shit out of him" Grin

Another vote for Ring (the Japansese or Korean versions) but only if you are very very very brave! Grin
Event Horizon terrified me, it's a sci-fi horror though.
The Others
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

RiverTam · 23/01/2016 20:34

Your bf thinks all films pre-2008 are rubbish?? What the chuffity chuff?? I tend to think that most black and white films are crap

HairySubject · 23/01/2016 20:34

Yes sinister thanks! I didn't want to give the plot away but couldn't remember the name.

I think I have seen Shutter too, that was OK.

I8toys · 23/01/2016 20:36

Event Horizon - I am not a coward but this still freaks me out

ijustwannadance · 23/01/2016 20:38

Room 1408.
Tamer than a lot of the other suggestions but it scared me.

StrattersDD · 23/01/2016 20:39

RiverTam I know. Sigh, I loved the old Amityville.

The Changeling, oh my God, The Changeling.

(Not the Angelina Jolie film)

exWifebeginsat40 · 23/01/2016 20:41

a movie from 2014 called Creep. it's on Netflix and I didn't sleep properly for days.

also Lovely Molly, if you can find it. it haunted me.

foragogo · 23/01/2016 20:42

OMG YES EVENT HORIZON!! That is the only film that has ever really freaked me the f out. It still sends shivers to think of the afternoon I watched it, maybe 15 years ago, hungover and jet lagged in a hotel in NY. Only time a film has really creeped me out.

Gileswithachainsaw · 23/01/2016 20:45

I still have not fulfilled my quest of finding a decent scary movie Grin

have seen many of these and not only were they not scary they were shit.

exception being the ring and exorcist. however I didn't find them.scary.

EdithSitwell · 23/01/2016 20:46

The Innocents (1961). Seriously creepy.

ftmsoon · 23/01/2016 20:48

I am currently watching Event Horizon on Netflix, except I can't watch it all in one go even though I've seen it before!

StrattersDD · 23/01/2016 20:50

exWifebeginsat40BY JOVE YOU'VE DONE IT! He said we can give Creep a chance!

Another vote for Event Horizon. Seriously creepy stuff!!

I am a complete wimp and as I've got older I rarely watch "scary" films.

The Grudge and The Ring are both pretty scary. I'd not watch them again (have seen them both a few times. Don't know why!!)

The orgonal Nightmare on Elm Street is my ultimate scary film and I refuse to ever watch it again. Someone told me the synopsis when I was young [10] and I eventually saw it a few years later when I stayed at a friends long before the internet it freaked the shit out of me. Have tried over the years to watch it again. And I can't. Even seeing it as I flick through the TV menu makes me feel terrified. I know it's incredibly dated now and I've watched all the 6 of the films and Wes Craven's New Nightmare. I just cannot watch that first NOES

PenguinsAreAce · 23/01/2016 20:55

I came on to say Event Horion.

SouthWestmom · 23/01/2016 20:58

I watched slither with a friend in a deserted English language cinema and it was terrifying. Us, two tiers of seating (like a theatre) pitch black and silent.

Tomboyinatutu · 23/01/2016 21:47

The grudge is great! My sister is still terrified after watching the 3rd one, I often make the noise that the woman makes and it scares the bajeebus out of her. I am yet to find one that really scares me so I may give a few of the ones on this thread a go!

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/01/2016 21:49

Blair Witch Project.
