Awesome!

I was not disappointed.

Now I won't post any spoilers, but I can't speak for anyone else on the thread, so proceed carefully. ...and there are a few plot points that probably won't stay secret for long, so get thee to a cinema!

Lots of old school star wars references and characters, lots of lovely new aliens to enjoy. Old cast great, new cast even better.

I was a little disappointed that of the hundreds of fans who turned out for the midnight showing, only a handful were women. Where were you all? The main character is a bad-ass lady, so there's no excuse that this is a boys film.

All in all, a few hours well spent. 10/10.
Before I say more, what did anyone else think?

Saw it yesterday afternoon, me, dh and 17 year old ds Xmas Shock. Loved every minute.

I started crying when 'that' chord played and the Star Wars logo came on screen, then A Long Time Ago ... rolling upscreen, and I didn't stop sobbing pretty much all the way through. The nostalgia! The emotion! I was sixteen again and still in love with Han Solo.

Utter bliss Xmas Grin.

HPsauciness · 19/12/2015 17:21

I cried as well, towards the end. I think it was the nostalgia, and the sense of full circle, I felt a bit of a loon sitting there with tears streaming down my face.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 19/12/2015 18:13

I hadn't expected to be moved by it

sat in the cinema with tears dripping off me nearly all way through, no tissues, trying to surreptitiously wipe face with sleeve

what a twat Grin

yes, the nostalgia and the full circle. Perfect

HappyMum4 · 19/12/2015 20:31

Oh no - am I the only one who was bitterly disappointed?! Awful baddie, about as menacing as a wet sponge, stroppy teenager! And felt it was total rehash of "A New Hope" without any of the incredible atmospheric music or cinematography. Didn't mind the new "goodies", could have done probably without the "oldies" - like "Cocoon in space"!

HopefulHamster · 19/12/2015 21:38

I thought Adam Driver was fantastic in it actually.

And lots of the Harrison Ford bits made me cry, mostly because of nostalgia, which was a bit of a surprise.

I loved it.

ChipsandGuac · 20/12/2015 00:50

We all absolutely loved it. It was fantastic. And I loved how funny it was. We all argued who was the best character all the way home. I really liked Fin. And Chewy. Oh, and C3PO. And Rae. Err, and all of them!

When it started, the cinema filled with applause and cheers and every time an old timer came on, everyone clapped again. It was a brilliant, entertaining couple of hours and now I want to go and watch it all over again.

ChipsandGuac · 20/12/2015 00:51

And re Adam Driver. We were all discussing it and we thought he was the best cast actor. Surely half the point is that he is fighting his inner good side?

Shannaratiger · 20/12/2015 06:46

Saw it yesterday with DH, Dd(12) and Ds(9). Me and Dd loved it; DH massive life long fan liked it as well, as always found a few issues. Ds didn't like it - he couldn't understand it, I think it was the age differences between the original characters. i think when he watches it again in DVD he'll understand and enjoy it.
Love the similar vibe to the original 4,5, and 6. The characters are great, really strong. Wouln't take small kids though to the cinema.

wickedlazy · 20/12/2015 07:55

Went to see it with dp last night. Loved it! I didn't expect to cry either, but I did. Every time I heard the force theme, (the slow, sad one that I think first plays in the original when Luke finds his aunt and uncle). And that bit! I just knew it was going to happen, covered my eyes and everything, but made myself look at the last second.

I think they got it spot on. The casting, the plot, the special effects. I'll admit, I loved the prequels too, but this is much closer to the originals. And have seen a lot of criticism about Snoke (the bad guy) online but thought it was well done. I really want to go again and see it in 3D this time. Going to look for the other thread with people who've seen it and see if any one here has any good theories. Agree with the pp that said they would to watch this as a 10 year old girl, so they could grow up wanting to be Rey.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 20/12/2015 09:17

Well, saw it this morning. Rated it about 6.5/10, DH gave it a 7. He agrees re. the "rehash of A New Hope" - some bits were so alike, it got silly!

Having read the Keira Knightley comments, I was about to say to DH that I couldn't see what people were on about re. that Daisy, and then she pulled an absolute KK face! Grin

I liked it; and I liked that they "PCd" it more. There were bits that pissed us off, bits that made little sense, and some really funny moments. Overall positive though.

Boomingmarvellous · 20/12/2015 09:40

Tickets for this afternoon Xmas Grin

TSSDNCOP · 20/12/2015 20:26

Loved it. Thought Daisy and Finn were ace. So jealous she got to fly the Milenium Falcon Envy

TSSDNCOP · 20/12/2015 20:28

Sorry Rey and Finn.

BabyGanoush · 20/12/2015 20:50

I told DH I thought Rey was the new Keira Knightly Grin

I am afraid I found some of the scripy and the acting a bit weak.

Some parts were very exciting but I did not take to Ren and the acting was often a bit "knowing" and done with a wink to the audience. Some jokes fell flat.

But the DSs loved it and that was the point!

One character reminded me of the Oracle in the Matrix (not her looks, but her role), Keira who is not Keira reminded me of the hunger games with all the frantic running and kicking ass Grin, the two blokes in the beginning with their bromance reminded me of at least a dozen other films.

It was ok, but it wasn't new

chanelfreak · 21/12/2015 09:00

Saw it again yesterday and if anything, it was better the 2nd time round! I'm totally in lust with Kylo Ren though, which is a strange one Confused

Duckdeamon · 21/12/2015 09:03

Perhaps it's his flowing locks chanelfreak!

Duckdeamon · 21/12/2015 09:04

Carrie fisher's face barely moved, hard to act with such limited expression Sad

Cerseirys · 21/12/2015 09:12

YY to those who said Daisy Ridley reminded them of Keira and Domhall Gleeson of Bumbercatch. I also kept thinking of Harry Potter's Snape every time we saw Kylo Ren sans helmet!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 21/12/2015 10:05

Oh yes, there was the HP allusions too - DH thought that Snokes (is that his name? The giant hologram?) was reminiscent of Voldemort, and there was the bit where Rey and Ren were doing battle of the minds, and Rey fought back, that was SO Harry Potter and Snape doing Occlumency!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 21/12/2015 10:05

There were the HP allusions too...
Been in Australia too long, obvs

Duckdeamon · 21/12/2015 10:20

Yeah, what was with the giant voldemort?

Shit shit I thought this was the with spoilers thread! Will report my last post.

FadedRed · 23/12/2015 14:09

Two 'old people' here, me and DH, who saw the originals first time round and were awestruck at the time.
We went last night, and yes, it's good, (and hundreds of time better than the prequels Ep 1, 2 & 3) but.....
Agree with pp's the plot line is weak and similar to SW 4 A New Hope, only with plot holes. Won't put on here in regard to no spoilers on this thread, but the first one was within the first few minutes.
Also saw the similarities with HG and Snape! Grin
Worth seeing on big screen though.
