Star Wars VII - The Force Awakens

Awesome!

I was not disappointed.

Now I won't post any spoilers, but I can't speak for anyone else on the thread, so proceed carefully. ...and there are a few plot points that probably won't stay secret for long, so get thee to a cinema!

Lots of old school star wars references and characters, lots of lovely new aliens to enjoy. Old cast great, new cast even better.

I was a little disappointed that of the hundreds of fans who turned out for the midnight showing, only a handful were women. Where were you all? The main character is a bad-ass lady, so there's no excuse that this is a boys film.

All in all, a few hours well spent. 10/10.

I saw it tonight too. Same as you - very few women. Apparently 6 screens were showing it in our cinema!

I was very impressed. DH is a massive fan of star wars and I thoroughly enjoyed it. He rates it as his 3rd favourite.

I left my DH at home with the baby! People still insist on addressing him regarding Star Wars discussions rather than me, he just looks blank!

I've just got in home having been to a midnight screening with DH. There were something like 6 screenings on at the same time, I've never seen the cinema so busy! The atmosphere was amazing, such a great experience and I'm really glad we made the effort to go as if we'd miss the chance to go see a Star Wars film as soon as we could

It really is a proper Star Wars film, it nails it in all the ways the prequels so spectacularly missed.

I love all the new characters, Rey in particular is absolutely awesome.

Lots of lovely nods to the original trilogy and I'm sure there'll be more to spot each time I watch it.

At this point I'm very glad we're booked in to go see it again in less than 24 hours

Do you think it's suitable for a 6 and 8yo? My DC v keen to see it

I went and loved it so, so much. Perfect mix of old and new, tragedy and comedy - so much for every generation of fan. Easily the best cinematic experience I've had in years. I can't wait to see it again and am unspeakably excited for the next installment.

I might even forgive Jar Jar Binks now

As for younger children, there are a couple of distressing scenes of torture and death - I'd think carefully about taking them as seeing it on a huge screen might be a bit overwhelming!

I'm going tomorrow with my 10yo DS. We're so looking forward to it. He has spent the last week re-watching all the previous movies, i joined him for The Empire Strikes Back & Return of the Jedi.

I'm taking DS1 and DB on Sunday.

Well worth getting to the midnight showing! We absolutely loved it - the film the fans were waiting for (no spoilers).

I'm going today, so excited!!!!!

My dd's tell me that it is mainly boys who are interested in Star Wars and it's considered not a 'girls thing' now...what a shame, I have loved it and watched each film lots of times!

I love the fact the bad-ass action hero is a woman so hope that might change people's perception this is a film for men not women.

Thought it bang on what we hoped for - not the best film in the world but excellent. DH relived his childhood for a couple of hours!

And I want a droid for Christmas now!

DH is taking oldest 2 DS this evening (also booked in for Saturday ) He's in his element!

AuntieStella, it may not be too late for you to book a ticket for today. We only booked ours a couple of days ago. If you're near a large cinema that's got showings every hour, you may well get in.

I'm going to see it with DH at some point but I have to admit to not being over-thrilled at the prospect! I expect I'll enjoy it when I get there.

As an aside, I LOVE the changed MN logo with light sabres!!

Just watched a 7:30am showing. My partner and I watched the original trilogy last night.

They fitted together so well. Extremely good, one thoroughly impressed and happy fan right here!

I went to the midnight showing. 13/15 screens were running Star Wars.
No spoilers here - but I loved it.

Rey is an amazing character. I wish I was 10 again so I could grow up wanting to be her.

Would you take a young child to see it? How scary is it? My friend says it's no scarier than the original (70's) 3 but he doesn't have children so I'm not sure whether to trust his judgement...!

Any thoughts from those that have seen it?

I'm going tomorrow with DH, can't wait! I watched the original 3 too this week, just to catch up where we are...

By the way.
IMO I dont think its suitable for 6 year old.

We will wait until its on DVD and then we can play clips for them.
There are some strong scenes and some quite dark bits.

DS went to see it last night with his pals. It was a HUUUUGE bending of the rules as the first showing was at 9pm and it finished after midnight on a school night.

He says it was as good as his favourite TESB, but a lot more violent in the fight scenes with graphic CG shots of light sabre wounds. None of the girls from his class were interested in going, so it seems firmly aimed at lads.
Music fans: John Williams has written a new theme for this movie and did it justice throughout!

I totally love SW but DD is cluster feeding/going through a ridiculous attachment phase so I'll not be seeing it at the cinema (by the time I get to the cinema, see it and come home it'll have been hours and she'll have gone into melt down) - I selfishly wanted FA to be bad so that i could convince myself that missing it wasn't going to be a big deal but seeing all the raving reviews is bittersweet. I'm thrilled for the fans that it's brilliant but I've got to admit its a sore point.

Anyone who saw it - do you reckon a baby could sleep through the noise?
