Damian Lewis is the favourite to play the next James Bond. What do you think?

I know most secret agents probably look like John Major but I do think the fictional ones at least should be suave and sophisticated. Damian Lewis looks as though he should be working for the council, in charge of assigning allotments or something equally as dangerous.

I just can’t imagine him arse kicking and seducing his way across the world in pursuit of the baddies. He looks as though he'd stop mid scrap to tell the villains that his bad hip was at him and could they please reschedule.

Are you a fan of the smug mouthed one?

Mitzy Aiden Gillen is inspired I now withdraw my back of Idris Elba, Tom Hardy and Micheal Fassbender- in favour of Aiden Gillen! :)

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 16/06/2015 17:01

I have a proposal for the next next James Bond. He should be ready in 10 yrs or so. I give you Ben Aldridge. Sadly only in his late 20's.

Absolutely no to Jonanathsn Rhys Myers. I will not allow it. (Even if he were able to work at the moment). JRM idea of acting a domineering and aggressive male is to shout the lines abruptly and in an gruff voice.

Cillian Murphy I still haven't forgiven for the terrible Birmigham accent so he's banned.

Agree Aiden Gillen would be good but is just too slight. Though saying that what's the description of Bonds build in the books? Is his physic mentioned?

Not sure who the others mentioned are, Tom Hardy makes me think of the young diver, but I'm going to guess I've that wrong...

Paul Bettany doesn't have strong enough eyebrows

Christian Bale was born to play Bond. Though Idris is up there. They are the only two who would do.

I like Rupert Penry Jones, but he would just look like an inferior sequel to Daniel Craig.

RiverTam · 16/06/2015 17:15

Lweji, it's been a while since I read Red Dragon so don't know how well cast he is or not. It was meant to be Lee Pace but he's in another show so it went to RA.

Fassbender's too big a name, I really don't think they will cast anyone who's slready a household name in the US.

Idris really is the best bet out of this lot.

Lweji · 16/06/2015 17:22

I hear that a brooding, menacing, charming young man, with a sense of humour, has just become free.
He may be young and a bit on the short side, but he did manage to get to the top of his own security forces.
And a descendant of Charles II, rumour Wikipedia has it.

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/06/2015 17:25

I've googled those clues Lweji. Maybe Kit Harington would work it was James Bond the Teenage Years, otherwise no chance!

Cute as he is he's no taller than a garden gnome.

Err, massive spoiler alert there Shock!

OnlyLovers · 16/06/2015 17:30

Loki, have you seen Paul Bettany in Gangster No. 1? Nice he isn't! I think he'd be a great Bond. And he'd rock the suits. And the nude/shower/swimming scenes

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/06/2015 17:33

I like Paul Bettany. Very English without being stuffy, can be quite cool and aloof.

Rupert Penry Jones is amazingly masculine in Persuasion. Richard Armitage would also work for me!

This is Bond in 10-15 years. Theo James is probably the most handsome man on the planet.

tethersend · 16/06/2015 17:52

I saw Damian Lewis on Saturday out with his wife and kids. He smiled at me when I said hello like a twat.

I still think Idris Elba would be better as Bond, though.

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/06/2015 17:52

Never heard of Theo James before. He's perfectly nice but a bit wholesome looking for me.

He looks like an American mormon who's been sent to the UK for a year to convert the masses of Milton Keynes.

OnlyLovers · 16/06/2015 17:54

Theo James looks a bit ... weak to me. Slightly flobbly chin. I don't know who he is, actually. His smile reminds me a bit of Richard Bacon.

Someone on here has a story about Damian Lewis leering at her as he passed her on his bike. Round London Bridge if I remember rightly. Sleazo.

ThomasRichard · 16/06/2015 18:00

All the more for me then :o unlikely He played the Turkish diplomat in Downton Abbey and Four in Divergent.

Can I persuade you?

OnlyLovers · 16/06/2015 18:01

Oh, I vaguely remember him in Downton.

No, don't fancy his much. Sorry Theo, I know it's a blow.

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/06/2015 18:04

Ah I remember! He was killed by Lady Mary's malevolent vagina, or was it her dastardly bumhole? I could never quite work it out.

Daniel Craig is the only Bond I've actually liked, now I come to think about it.

I don't like the older Bond films, because they are all about sex and hair styles and cocktails, but the recent Bond's with DC actually seem to have some substance to them. A bit more heart, but darker, and more painful too.

Whoever they replace DC with, they need to keep the darker side and the substance.

ChishandFips33 · 16/06/2015 18:19

They just can't oust Daniel Craig noooo!! He's been the best bond for ages

Will be sad not to see Judi as M

Ian Somerhalder from Vampire Diaries with a British accent those eyes!!
He does evil very well!

ScrambledSmegs · 16/06/2015 18:23

He's nothing special in RL, I'm afraid. Sorry Thomas!

ThomasRichard · 16/06/2015 18:28

No way Scrambled! Have you met him?

ScrambledSmegs · 16/06/2015 18:31

Not exactly. He lives down the road from me. I've only seen him once (seen his fiancée a lot more) and have to admit I was a bit 'meh'. She's beautiful.

ThomasRichard · 16/06/2015 18:35

Oh well. As I'm unlikely to ever see him in RL I'll continue to admire his onscreen gorgeousness.

WyrdByrd · 16/06/2015 18:42

RiverTam

You are not alone Grin. RA all the way for me (don't I wish Wink ).

He was amazing in The Crucible & is certainly not slight! See also John Porter, series 1 Strike Back and Season 9 of Spooks.

FWIW I think he will make an excellent Dolarhyde, although admittedly I'm basing that on what I've read about the character, having not read RD or seen the film. He has said he likes playing characters with dichotomy & FD certainly fits that description.

I'm not sure if I'll watch it yet. Have been a huge RA fan for years but am not good with psychological horror.

SaulGood · 16/06/2015 19:01

Damian Lewis is all that is good with the world. He's no Bond though.

I think Marc Warren could pull it off actually.
