Forgot to add Eden Lake if he likes horror type films. What about Skyfall, not sure if that counts as entirely British though...

They're recent releases so not on DVD yet but The Imitation Game and The Theory of Everything are both British and both brilliant.

There are tons of romcoms but maybe not his thing.

PausingFlatly · 29/01/2015 23:08

A Month in the Country -

But it's about two men returning to the UK from WWI, so maybe too "period" for your DH. It has Colin Firth so watch it anyway.

redexpat · 29/01/2015 23:11

Run Fat Boy Run is funny. I second Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead (Ignore all of these if you're not a Simon Pegg fan!)

elQuintoConyo · 30/01/2015 10:20

The Wicked Lady (Margaret Lockwood, James Mason, 1945, but a period film. Bloody brilluant anyway!).

Rebecca

Theatre of Blood (1973)

24hour Party People

The Wicker Man

Dracula (1958)

The Ipcress File

Four Lions

Naked

Brighton Rock

Rebecca feels like a British film but it's actually American.

I would watch anything with James Mason in it. Absolutely anything. Those cheekbones! His voice! Mmmmmm.

The Wicker Man - gosh, that's a dire film. So bad it's almost good, I suppose.

Hello, with the OP’s kind permission we’re sweeping this thread into our Films topic.

BagelwithButter · 30/01/2015 13:48

Kes! An oldie, but so, so good
Harry Brown with Michael Caine. Pretty depressing but excellent
Local Hero (one of my all time favourite British movies)

Here's a good list www.empireonline.com/100britishfilms/

BagelwithButter · 30/01/2015 13:50

A Matter of Life and Death - mentioning voices Mimsy - love Roger Livesey's voice, smooth as velvet

YY to the Wicked Lady

PausingFlatly · 30/01/2015 14:10

Landgirls
A Canterbury Tale (lesser known Powell & Pressburger)
Me Without You

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 30/01/2015 14:19

Oh yes, Roger Livesey! I could listen to that voice all day.

Get Carter - very violent indeed, I suppose I should mention. Wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. It's a great favourite of mine. Michael Caine in his prime. Catches Britain at a time of great change - old back to back terraces being pulled down and replaced with tower blocks. Very evocative.

CrazyTights · 30/01/2015 17:37

The Full Monty

Dancergirl · 30/01/2015 17:58

Educating Rita

Peter's Friends - such an under rated film and much better than Four Weddings IMO....and a great cast

Letter to Brezhnev - this film seems to have been forgotton about - it's NEVER on tv

saltedcaramelicious · 30/01/2015 18:27

The Hole. Really scared me as a teenager!

saltedcaramelicious · 30/01/2015 18:29

saltedcaramelicious · 30/01/2015 18:30

Oh and I enjoyed About Time as well.

Will stop spamming the thread now Blush

Takver · 30/01/2015 18:44

Pride - don't know how old he is, but as well as being an excellent film it is 100% perfect 80s nostalgia if you were around then!

OverAndAbove · 30/01/2015 19:00

Oh gosh HOW could I have forgotten The InBetweeners?! It's just so British Grin
