With your user name you'd have to mention Kind Hearts And Coronets, Ascoyne!

The Railway Children is obviously not primarily aimed at adults but it's a lovely film, nevertheless. There's also Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for those who would like to traumatise their children with the Childcatcher...

Whistle down the wind
Cook, thief, his wife and her lover

Just remembered another Richard Attenborough film: Seance on a Wet Afternoon. Psychological suspense thriller. Pops up on Film 4 from time to time. I'd love to see it again. Film 4 is a good source for all sorts of older films.

Goodnight Mr Tom, Kes and When the Wind Blows Grin

Operation Daybreak with a very young Martin Shaw Wink - not sure if it is strictly british but it has a mainly british cast. It is a WW2 film based on a true story to assassinate Nazi Reinhard Heydrich. Me and My Dsis watch it one afternoon years ago and loved it - have the tissues ready at the end!
