A Single Man - an absolutely fantastic film. Another Country.

haphazardbystarlight · 31/12/2014 15:17

Snape I don't really want 'queer fiction' I guess; I'm just struggling to think of texts with homosexual characters who aren't exactly the focus of the story - do you know what I mean?

The Line of Beauty by Alan Hollinghurst

1981 · 31/12/2014 15:18

The Imitation Game (out at the cinemas right now)

Pippidoeswhatshewants · 31/12/2014 15:19

Without googling I can come up with these:
My beautiful laundrette
Four weddings and a funeral
Broke back Mountain
Principa, Queen of the Desert
Milk
Philadelphia

southeastastra · 31/12/2014 15:19

Pippidoeswhatshewants · 31/12/2014 15:19

The Queen of the Desert is Priscilla, btw

Housewife81 · 31/12/2014 15:20

Milk

Kinky boots

Hatespiders · 31/12/2014 15:20

Shakespeare's Edward 11. Deals with the king and his lover Piers Gaveston.
Ditto by Christopher Marlowe. Poor king dies with a red-hot poker in an uncomfortable spot. Made into a film ('Edward 11') in 1991.

Any armisted maupin - tales of the city - fabulous books

happygirl87 · 31/12/2014 15:20

There are probably more than we think- in Mrs Doubtfire the movie Robin Williams brother is gay (he tells the kids his make over was done by "Uncle Frank and Aunt Jack")

mickeyfartpants · 31/12/2014 15:20

The Color Purple

JadziaSnax · 31/12/2014 15:21

Val McDermid usually has good lesbian characters that aren't the focus of the story.

YonicSleighdriver · 31/12/2014 15:21

Sex and The City has Stanford (and Anthony)
Torchwood (everyone is omnisexual!)

mickeyfartpants · 31/12/2014 15:21

The picture of Dorian Gray
Fried Green Tomatoes

1981 · 31/12/2014 15:21

Well, if the homosexuality isn't the key focus of the movie, what about Manhattan (1979), the Woody Allen movie where his former wife holds custody of the kids but she's living with her (female) new partner? It's not exactly a huge part of the movie but definitely in there.

SunnyBaudelaire · 31/12/2014 15:22
